John “Jack” Adkins

John “Jack” Adkins, 90, of Charleston passed away Friday, May 23, 2025, at home.

Jack was a 1954 graduate of East Bank High School. He was owner and operator of Adkins Wrecker with his father until his passing and continued the business until 1998. He was an avid outdoorsman, who loved hunting and fishing.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jess W. and Rosa March Adkins; brother, Jesse E. Adkins; and daughter, Jeannie Bostic.

Jack is survived by his wife of 64 years, Viginia “Jenny” Nunn Adkins; son, John W. Adkins; grandchildren, Carleah Adkins, John & Christy Meadows; brother and sister-in-law, Ralph & Carol Nunn; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside service will be 2:00pm, Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at Hayzlett Cemetery on Garretts Bend, Sod with Pastor Frank Thomas officiating.

The family would like to extend special thanks to Kanawha Hospice and Angela Adkins.

William Lee Sublette, Jr.

William Lee “Bill” Sublette, Jr. 71, of Charleston passed away Sunday, May 18, 2025, at CAMC Memorial Hospital.

Bill was a graduate of Nitro High School and worked for Allied Security and was a former machinist at Terramite. He was an avid guitarist and loved rock music and fishing.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William Lee, Sr. and Marjorie Smith Sublette.

Bill is survived by his daughters, Kendra Sublette and Whitney Sublette; grandchildren, Genevieve and Jonah Leuliette, Emilia and Quinton Samples; and his companion, with whom he made his home, Barbara Harrison.

In keeping with his wishes, Bill will be cremated and a celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Bill was patriotic and very passionate about his county and United States military veterans. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to West Virginia Veterans Home, 512 Water Street, Barboursville, WV 25504.

David Brian Myers

David Brian (aka Bumper) Myers, 49 ½ years old, passed away due to unforeseen circumstances. He was gone at least 11 months before being found in Nitro, WV on January 30, 2025. Only if love could have kept you here with us, but that was not in the plans. We are so heartbroken.

Preceding him in death was his dad, David J. Myers; brother, Jeremy Myers; twin grandbabies; aunt, Dottie Myers Ashley; his uncle, Dale Ashley; grandparents, Ervin and Pansy (Pat) Caldwell and Lloyd and Flossie Myers; and his uncle, Jim Myers, whom he loved dearly.

He is survived by his mom, Lillian Ruth Caldwell (Harris); stepdad, Robert Harris of Yawkey, WV; brothers, Matthew Caldwell (Cassie) of South Charleston, WV, Ernie Williams (Courtney) of Charleston, WV, Jeremiah Harris (Jodie) of Boone County, WV, Joseph Harris, unknown address, Rexcell Harris of Mud River, WV, Davey Myers of Charleston, WV, Lloyd (Barney) Myers of Ashland, KY, Charles Adam Myers of Griffithsville, WV; stepbrother, Don Martin; sisters, Cathy Myers Lawrence of Charleston, WV, Andrea Myers of Nitro, WV, Jessica Bailey, Sara Myers both of St. Albans, WV; stepsister, Diane Burch; daughters, Ceaira Nicole Myers Frampton (Nick) of Charleston, WV, McKenzie Myers Bowen of Dunbar, WV, McCayla Myers Moles (Baylee) of Cabin Creek, WV; stepson, Jaiden Holt (Emily Call) of Hurricane, WV. He is also survived by 9 grandbabies, 2 step grandbabies, nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and lots of family and friends.

He was an awesome contractor, loved to sing (gospel and country music), cook, fish and go hunting with his brother, Matthew, stepdad, Rob (as he called him), and his uncle, Eddie and reading his Bible. He loved telling people about Jesus and what He could do for you in your life.

Curry Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. He will be cremated. There will be no service for him but a Celebration of Life at my son and daughter-in-law’s home, Matthew and Cassie Caldwell, 105 Ruthlawn Drive, South Charleston will be held Sunday, June 22, 2025, at 2pm. Refreshments will be served. We have also been asked about helping with the expenses of the cremation. Donations can be made in cash or checks payable to Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek, WV 25003.

Private burial at a later date in the Comer Cemetery, Loudendale, WV.

Anna Smith Chandler

Anna Smith Chandler, 96, of Yawkey, WV, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 17, 2025, at home. She was born September 24, 1928.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Junior Freeman Chandler, parents, Everett & Eliza Brumfield Smith, brothers, James Opal, Ronald Hershall, and Arvil, and sisters, Mary Sampson, Guynith Raper, and Myrtle Virginia Dragoo. She is also preceded in death by her sons-in-law, Harold Bennett, Richard Bowles and Lannie Kidd.

Anna is survived by her four daughters and one son, Dorean Bennett, Janet (Dwight) McClure, Melinda Bowles, Patty Kidd and Jackie Chandler. Proud Grandmother of six grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandsons.

She was a Christian and a member of Joes Creek Independent Missionary Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir and served as church clerk for many years.

Service will be 2:00pm Tuesday, May 20, 2025, at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, WV, with Pastor Andy Gillenwater officiating. Burial will follow at Orchard Hills Memory Gardens, Yawkey.

Family and friends will gather one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Pamela K. (McCallister) McMillion

May 15, 2025 Pamela K (McCallister) McMillion, 60, slipped the surly bonds of earth, peacefully, surrounded by her beloved family and friends. She lived with her son (Trenton McMillion) in Roseville, Michigan for several years as she waged her battle with cancer. She was welcomed into the arms of the Lord and reunited with loved ones and friends alike. 

Pamela was born May 8th, 1965 to Billie and Virginia (Beach) McCallister in South Charleston (Tick Ridge), West Virginia. 

Pamela is preceded in death by her parents: Billie and Virginia McCallister; grandparents: Elwood and Virgie Beach, Creed and Ruth McCallister; siblings: Benjamin (Ben) Franklin, Russell (Rusty) Lee, Paul George, and baby (Dusty) McCallister. 

Pamela is survived by sisters: Belinda Gail Barker-Fox (Mark), Dreama Sue Lenn, and Sarah Darlene Golden (Joe); Sister-in-law Betty Jo McCallister (Ben). Her Children: Rachel McElroy (Alexander) and Trenton McMillion (Mary Rose). She was called Mimi by grandchildren: Claira Marie, Michael Alexander, and Emmett Daniel McElroy. She was also survived by many nieces, nephews, family, and friends. 

Pamela married Brenton McMillion on June 14, 1987. He won her over by his daring ability to hang off a multistory building to win a game of hide and seek. They spent their time together going on long motorcycle rides and adventuring through the woods. As they grew older, they worked together to flip 11 houses, resulting in the primary home in South Charleston where they raised their two children. They separated after their last child graduated high school. 

In addition to being a loving mother, Pamela loved the Lord. She held an unwavering faith in God, which she shared with everyone she met. She started her Christian journey attending Christian Faith Secondary Schools, where she loved to go to gospel sings with her mother and sisters. She believed in the power of prayer and the importance of living a life that’s reflected by her beliefs. Pamela’s legacy of strong Christian faith lives on through the many lives she touched and those she ministered to in time of need. Pamela took her profession and her Christian faith hand and hand; she lived a professional life of service graduating from West Virginia University with her Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She spent her career as a Registered Nurse for 36 years ending as the Director of Nursing. Pamela enjoyed traveling with her children, grandchildren, and friends to one of her favorite places on earth, Walt Disney World. She also spent time as a travel nurse living in many different states and cities over the years, including Myrtle Beach, SC; San Antonio, TX; Olean, NY; Charlottesville, VA; and Ypsilanti, MI. Pamela was a prolific writer, reader, and baker, always loving to share her bread recipe with all her guests. Later in life, she developed a passion for genealogy; with a deep curiosity for where her family came from, this led her to become a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). She loved exploring her family lineage back to England and was very proud that her family had been in West Virginia since the 1700’s. In her final days, Pamela loved spending time with her family, friends, and pets in the garden on beautiful sunny days.

Visitation will be held at Curry Funeral Home Monday, May 26, 2025, at 6:00pm. Funeral Services will be held at Curry Funeral Home Tuesday, May 27, 2025 at 12:00PM. Burial service will immediately follow at Graceland Cemetery at 2:00pm in South Charleston, WV.  Services will be provided by Pastor Chris VanNatter of Hopewell Baptist Church. Her Nephew Ryan Barker will be assisting with flags at the funeral home.

Lou Ellen McClure

Lou Ellen McClure, 87, of Yawkey went home to be with the Lord, Saturday, May 10, 2025, at Hubbard Hospice House, Charleston.

Lou was a homemaker and a member of Yawkey Community Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gene McClure.

Lou is survived by her daughters, Bridget (Eugene “Chip”) Chipps and Patricia Vickers (fiancé, Mark Nelson); grandchildren, Natalie (Jessie) Williams, Aaron Chipps, Emily & Jonathan Vickers; great granddaughter, Marissa Williams; siblings, Roger (Brenda) Satterfield, Jimmy Satterfield, Betty Prine, Terry Satterfield, and Sandy (John) Vineyard.

Service will be 1:00pm, Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Pastor Eddie Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at Orchard Hills Memory Gardens, Yawkey. Friends and family will gather one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Jerry & Kim Satterfield for their loving care of mom these latter years.

Cheryl Dianne Elswick

Cheryl Dianne Elswick, 55, of South Charleston, passed away on Wednesday, May 7, 2025.

Cheryl was preceded in death by her dad, William W. Smith and sister, Karen Smith.

Cheryl graduated from South Charleston High School and attended Marshall University and West Virginia State College. She worked for the post office for several years and also in medical records at CAMC. Cheryl was a loving wife, mother, daughter, grammy, and friend to many. She loved babysitting her seven grandchildren and spending time with her family. Her passion was genealogy, connecting with family members and uncovering the stories of our ancestors. She attended Spring Hill Baptist Church.

She is survived by her mother, Delores Smith; brother Billy Wray (Michelle) Smith; husband, Clinton Elswick; son, Caleb (Brittany) Elswick; daughters, Courtney (Justin) Bailey; Cara (Thatcher Lemaster) Elswick; and Cami Elswick. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Lilly, Jacob, and Eliana Elswick; Declan, Leighton, and Nolan Bailey; and Verity Lemaster.

Funeral service will be 1:00pm, Saturday, May 10, 2025, at Curry Funeral Home, with Pastor Matthew Decker officiating. Burial will follow at Graceland Memorial Park, South Charleston. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Spring Hill Baptist Church, 4707 Ohio Street, South Charleston, WV 25309.

Jeremiah Lee Thomas

Jeremiah Lee Thomas, 75, of South Charleston passed away Friday, May 2, 2025, at Select Specialty Hospital, Charleston.

Jeremiah retired as a postal clerk from the United States Postal Service. He served his country in the United States Army and was stationed in Panama.

He was preceded in death by his son, Jesse Edward Thomas; parents, Jesse & Kathryn Snyder Thomas; and brothers, William J. & Joseph A. Thomas.

Jeremiah is survived by his wife of 51 years, Nancy; granddaughter, Anna Jade Thomas; sister, Pearl Anderson of Florida; brothers, Jesse S. Thomas, Jr., Robert Thomas, and Jonathan “Eddie” Thomas, all of Florida. He his also survived by many nieces, nephews, and extended family whom he dearly loved.

Service will be 1:00pm, Tuesday, May 6, 2025, at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, with Pastor Greg Blake officiating. Burial with military rites will follow at Graceland Memorial Park, South Charleston. Friends and family will gather one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
