Edward Jackson Holstein

Edward Jackson Holstein, 72, of South Charleston, WV went home to be with the Lord Sunday, November 22, 2020 at CAMC General Division, Charleston, WV.

Edward was a strong Christian and a former Sunday School teacher and youth leader at Woodville Baptist Church, Woodville, WV.  He was a soft, gentle, good hearted man.  Edward served his country as a United States Army Sergeant and retired with 22 years of service. 

Edward was preceded in death by his wife, Alice Marie Holstein.

He is survived by sons, Davey (Kathy) Wilson, John Samuel Wilson III, Robert (Kelli) Wilson, and Shane (Virginia) Wilson; brothers, Douglas Holstein and Mickey Holstein; sister, Norlene Vance; and his loving canine companion, Nay Nay. 

Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, November 28, 2020 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, WV with Pastor Charles Kidd and Reverend Gary Gillispie officiating. Burial with military rites will be at Holstein Cemetery, Dartmont, WV.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family wishes donations would be made to West Virginia Veterans Home, 512 Water Street, Barboursville, WV 25504.

Joan Ann Cecil

Joan Ann Cecil, 69, of Alum Creek, WV, went home to be with the Lord Saturday, November 21, 2020 at Hubbard Hospice House West in South Charleston.

She retired from Neurological Associates in Charleston.

Joan was predeceased by her husband, Gene; sister, Jennifer Hensley; parents, Harold and Lucy Hensley; and brother-in-law, James Holstein.

She is survived by daughters, Stephanie (Kevin) Dunlap and Shannon Riffe; grandsons, Kevin Lewis Dunlap, Jr., and Cameron Bryant; granddaughter, Jilyian Riffe (Alex Slater); sister, Tamara Holstein; and niece, Olivia Holstein.

At her request there will be no service. Entombment will be at Graceland Memorial Park Mausoleum in South Charleston.

The family would like to express a special thank you to the staff at Hospice West and to lifelong friend, Sharon Madden.

Linda Robinson

Linda A. Robinson, 71, of Charleston, WV, went home Saturday, November 21, 2020 at CAMC Memorial Division in Charleston.

She was a member of the Maranatha Baptist Church in Sissonville. Linda was an employee at the Cracker Barrel Restaurant in Kanawha City.

She is survived by her sister, Carol Derrington; and nephew, Mike (Sarah) Derrington.

Service will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, November 27, at Curry Funeral Home in Alum Creek with Dr. Timothy Holtsclaw and Bill Bartlett officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park in South Charleston, WV.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to West Virginian’s For Life, 25 Canyon Road, Morgantown, WV 26508.

Doreen “Gail” Stamper

Doreen “Gail” Stamper, 74, of Sod, WV went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 18, 2020, due to complications from COVID-19.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory her husband of 37 years Bill Stamper. She is also survived by her 2 children, Jane (Kent) Neal of Sod and Erick (Stephanie) Dingess of Sod. She also leaves behind the light of her life, a grandson, Wyatt Neal.

She is also survived by her step-sister Nancy (Larry) Pauley of Sod, her step-brother David (Diana) Saul of Charleston, sister-in-law Norma (Bear) Weddington, and many nieces and nephews. Special friends who were like a brother and sisters to her, Kaye and Butch Leadman and Demettria Curry.

She was preceeded in death by her mother Nora Saul, her father Emory Weddington, and step-father Dorsey Saul, brothers David “Bear” Weddington and Larry Joe Weddington.

A memorial service will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, November 21, 2020, at Cobbs Creek Missionary Baptist Church, Sod, WV with Pastor Clyde Gwin officiating the service.

Sharon L. Graley

Sharon L. Graley, 70, of Gary, WV, formerly of St. Albans, WV, passed away Friday, November 13, 2020 at McDowell Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Gary, WV. Sharon will be cremated and there are no services planned at this time.

Phyllis Huffman

Phyllis Lynn Huffman, 69, of Alkol, WV went home to be with the Lord Sunday, November 15, 2020 at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, WV.

She was a Christian and worked as a hairdresser for 20 years. She later managed the office at Madison Medical Group until she retired in 2009.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents Earl and Cedilla Ryan; brothers, Arvil Gay Meadows and Earl Junior Ryan.

She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Sammy; daughter, Samantha (Tim) Neal of Morgantown; son, Ryan (Emily) Huffman of Alkol; brothers, Steve Ryan of Michigan and Victor (Shirley) Ryan of Alum Creek. She was “Momaw Phyllis” to Jake, Josiah, Samuel, Elijah, and Zoey whom she loved to the moon and back. Phyllis had no sisters, but her special sisters-in-law were as close as any sister. She has many nieces and nephews that she loved as her own and a host of family and friends.

Service will be at 1:00 Thursday, November 19, 2020 at Curry Funeral Home with Pastor Jimmy Lawrence officiating. Burial will follow at Ryan Cemetery in Flat Creek, WV. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Sandra Kay Rabel

Sandra Kay Rabel, 73 of Hutchinson Island, Florida and Hurricane, West Virginia entered heaven on November 16, 2020 after a long and courageous battle with Multiple Sclerosis.

Sandra was born on September 26, 1947 in St. Albans, West Virginia to the late Kyle and  Grace Ferrell. Sandra was a 1965 graduate of St. Albans High School and a 1969 graduate of Anderson University in Anderson, Indiana.

After graduation she moved back to West Virginia where she worked in the Secretary of  States office for several years. After the birth of her daughter she left to be a full time  mother. She was an accomplished musician and served many years as the organist for  Fifth Ave, Church of God as well as playing for many wedding throughout the Kanawha Valley. Sandra served several years with her good friend Joby Taylor as a college  recruiter for Anderson University on college day for Kanawha County Schools.

After moving to Hurricane, WV she became a part of Teays Valley Church of God.  While in Florida she attended Vero Beach Church of God but always considered Teays  Valley her home church.

Sandra loved to travel, read and work on Genealogy. Besides tracing her family history  back centuries she also recorded the location and occupants of many private cemeteries  for the Archives of the State of West Virginia. While dealing with MS she never let it  rule her life. She not only believed that through God all things are possible but had the  determination to live it every day.

Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 48 years Steve, her daughter and son-in law Kristin and Chris Miller of Saint Albans and her two grand daughters whom she love dearly Kaitln and Kendall Miller.

The family would like to thank Dr. John Frame for the wonderful care he gave Sandra  through the years. Also want to thank Rev. Dr. Melissa Pratt and Pastor Dave Bowan for the many visits, prayers and encouragement they have given Sandra.

Due to the Covid pandemic, there will be no visitation; the family will hold a private  graveside service in Cunningham Memorial Park in St. Albans with Pastor Dr. Melissa  Pratt and Pastor Dave Bowan.

To honor Sandra’s memory the family ask donations be made to Teays Valley Church  of  God Building Fund at P.O. Box 270, Scott Depot, WV 25560.

Spence Lee Woodrum

Spence Lee Woodrum, 51, of Yawkey, WV passed away Wednesday, November 11, 2020 at CAMC Memorial Division.

Lee was a graduate of Duval High School and was a truck driver.

He was preceded in death by his brothers Allen and Harrison.

Lee is survived by his parents, Spence and Mona Woodrum; son, Chris Woodrum; daughter, Crystal Woodrum; brothers, Tommy and Timmy; and sister, Lynn.

Graveside Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 24, 2020 at Bear Branch Cemetery, Spurlocksville, WV with Pastor Eddie Johnson officiating.

Londis “Allen” Justice

Londis “Allen” Justice, 53, of Alum Creek went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, November 11, 2020 at home surrounded by his loved ones.

He worked for J & L Clearing and Coal River Energy. He enjoyed camping, boating, hunting, motorcycle riding, and especially spending time with his family.

Allen was preceded in death by his son Crae Allen; parents, Londis and Jana Justice; and sister, Deborah Justice.

He is survived by his wife, Shawn of Alum Creek; daughters, Natasha Justice (James) of Hamlin and Taylor Justice (Travis) of Beckley; sister, Donna (David) Dunlap; brother, Ricky (Tonya) Justice; sister-in-law, Draunta (Jamie) Dorsey. He was “Popi” to grandchildren, Joel Allen, Logan Crae, and Paylin Kree. Allen was also survived by a host of family and friends.

The family would like to recognize the nurses at Hospice, Melanie and Connie, for their care and support.

Service will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 15, 2020 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Pastor Dan McCormick and Reverend Richard “Meathead” Allen officiating. Burial will follow at the Johnson Family cemetery, Alkol, WV. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Thelma Fay Spencer

Thelma Fay Spencer, 89, passed away Wednesday, November 4, 2020 at Hospice West, South Charleston, WV, with her family by her side.  Thelma was the last survivor of the five Pruett sisters, Marie, Sear, Lib and Erma.  She was also preceded in death by her husband, Emerson, son, Terry and grandson, Brandon Bradshaw.  There is a great celebration in Heaven as they welcome her home where she’ll live forever. 

Thelma retired from the WV State Dept of Education.  She loved gardening, quilting and most of all spending time with her family. 

She is survived by her daughters, Diana (Danny) Haynes, Cindy (P.D.) Parsons, Janey (Tim) Turley, Joy White, and Alma Lou (Dennis) Lewis, son, Bill (Karen) Spencer, 18 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-granddaughter, and special cousin Myrna Goddard, who was raised as one of the Pruett sisters. 

Service will be 2:00 Saturday, November 7, 2020, at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek, with Pastor Chuck Goddard officiating.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.  Burial will follow at French Cemetery, Charleston, WV.
