Ronnie Allen Clark, 72, of Alkol, WV, went home to be with Jesus on Wednesday, September 28, 2022, at Hubbard Hospice House, Charleston, WV. He was preceded in death by his parents, Oral & Dona Stone Clark, siblings, Harold Clark, Emogene Newman, Ralph and Tommy Clark, and nephews Steve and Lyle Clark

He was a retired coal miner from Hobet Mining for 26 years and served in the U.S. Air Force for four years. He attended Morrisvale Missionary Baptist Church and he loved going to church.

Ronnie was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. He loved spending time with his grandkids which was the greatest joy of his life. He loved being retired and loved his farm.

He is survived by his wife, Debbie of 53 years, the love of his life, and his daughter Traci, grandkids, Olivia Kessinger and Brady Kessinger He is also survived by his sisters, JoAnn (Jimmy) Walls and Anna Lee Smith, and a whole list of nieces and nephews that he dearly loved.

Service will be 3:00pm Sunday, October 2, 2022, at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, with Pastors Ron Scott and Jimmy Lawrence officiating. Family & friends will gather one hour prior to the service.

Burial will be 1:00pm Monday, October 3, 2022 at the Donel C. Kinnard Memorial State Veterans Cemetery, Dunbar, WV.

Kenneth Leslie Runyan

Kenneth Leslie Runyan (“basement speaking”),84, of Alum Creek, WV went to be with the heavenly Father on Saturday, September 24, 2022.

Kenneth is preceded in death by his parents Ford and Virginia Runyan, and middle son Joseph “Joey” Leslie Runyan. He has 5 siblings; brother Richard (Betty) Runyan; brother Charles (Vicki) Runyan; sister Patsy (C.B.) Keeney, sister Nancy (Bob) Matthews; and brother Gary “Ralph” (Deanna) Runyan. Kenneth is waiting in heaven for his beautiful wife Bonnie of 63 years, son Jerry (Penny) Runyan, daughter Julie Runyan Meikle and his “special” girl Kristi (diamond Jim) Pritt. Kenneth has 5 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren: Wesley (Tamy) Runyan; Adam (Jennifer) Runyan, Michael (Carrie) Runyan; Cala Meikle and Zachary Meikle (both of Lexington, KY) Great-grandchildren: Mason Runyan; Gavin Runyan; Daisy Runyan; Joey Runyan; Addison Cross; Kylie Cross; Brady Grude; Gunner Grude; and Bennett Meikle.

Kenneth was a member of the Alum Creek Church of Christ and a retired boilermaker for local union 667 and a US Air Force Veteran . He was instrumental in the establishment of Runyan’s Sunoco where he loved to visit and talk with the locals of the community. He was a simple, compassionate man who cared for everyone and would lend a hand to anyone. He loved fishing and golf and always said, “a bad day on the river is better than a good day at work.” His greatest love and accomplishment was his family. Thank you “pops” for the songs, stories, laughter, and memories. There will never be another like you!

Special thanks to the hospice staff and to our family and friends for all the care prayers, love and support shown at this difficult time.

In keeping with Kenneth’s wishes there will be a graveside service 4:00pm Tuesday, September 27, at Lively Cemetery, 46 Ford’s Lane Sod, WV. His lifelong friend Minister Kenneth Mitchell and Minister Charlie McKinney will be officiating the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations be made to Hubbard Hospice House, 1001 Curtis Price Way, Charleston, WV 25311.

Pauline L. Kinder

Pauline Kinder, 88, of Ashford, West Virginia, was born on April 25, 1934, and went home to the Lord on Wednesday, September 21, 2022.

She was born in Lincoln County and grew up in Ridgeview, West Virginia, where she met and married Garney Kinder, her husband of 67 years. They set up house in Ashford, where they raised their family.

Pauline enjoyed spending time with family and close friends. She was an amazing quilter. Pauline hand quilted over 140 beautiful quilts in her lifetime, not including numerous baby quilts over the years. One of her greatest joys was parenting her 5 children. She was a regular church attendee, and you would often see her in the church choir where her Christian faith shown through her beautiful alto voice.

Pauline was preceded in death by; her husband, Garney, her parents, Sesco and May McCallister, her sibling; Ethal Adkins, Dale McCallister, Christine Merritt, Glen McCallister and Carl McCallister, her Son-in-law Danny Kirk, and grandson, Derick Kirk.

Pauline leaves behind her sister, Carol Guidicelli of Sheffield Lake, Ohio, children; Lois Kirk of Ashford, West Virginia, Susan (Jim) McCauley of Florence, Montana, Randell (Debi) Kinder of Ashford, West Virginia, Lee (Bonnie) Kinder of Mocksville, North Carolina and Sheila Kinder of Cross Lanes, West Virginia, Six grandchildren; Darren Kirk, Chris McCauley, Matthew McCauley, Josaiah Kinder, Bethany Kinder and Tessa Kinder, and four great grandchildren; Nathan, Alexis and Madison McCauley and Gracelyn Kinder along with a host of friends.

The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24. Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 25 at the Ashford Church of God Holiness, 231 Ashford Nellis Road, Ashford, West Virginia with Pastor Randell Kinder officiating. Friends may also gather 1 hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at the Kinder Cemetery, Costa, West Virginia.

Alex Jacob Steven “AJ” Coon

Alex Jacob Steven “AJ” Coon, 36, of Huntington passed away Friday, September 16, 2022, at home.

AJ was a 2003 graduate of Mountaineer Challenge Academy and was a United States Army Veteran, serving his country during two tours in Iraq. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved spending time with his canine companion, Biscuit.

AJ was preceded in death by his grandparents, Jerry & Anita Hager, Joseph & Cannissa Coon.

He is survived by his mother & stepfather, Kathy & Keith Pauley; father and stepmother, Steve & Debra Coon; sisters, Lona Coon (John Breedlove), Wendy (Sam) Jones; nephews, Greyson Breedlove & Carson Breedlove; nieces, Ella Breedlove & Cynthia Jones; stepbrothers, Jacob Pauley & Josh Pauley. He is also survived by several aunts, uncles, and extended family.

In keeping with AJ’s wishes, he will be cremated and laid to rest at the family cemetery at Alkol, WV.

Special thanks to Gwen Humphrey and the Homeless Veterans Resource Center in Huntington for working tirelessly with him these past few years as he was trying to find his way.

Norma Jean “Blupie” Adkins

Norma Jean “Blupie” Adkins, 59, of Alkol passed away Wednesday, September 14, 2022, at CAMC Memorial Hospital.

Blupie was a homemaker. She loved her dogs, Abbie, Fat Boy, & Bear Dog, yard sales, and spending time with her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lemuel & Norma Ashworth Adkins.

Blupie is survived by the love of her life of 41 years, Rodney Adkins; sons, Justin (Heather) Keith Adkins, Sr., Christopher Scott Adkins, and Justin Keith Adkins, Jr.; sisters, Pauline Adkins, Susan Callahan, and Gertrude Willis; brothers, Andrew (Tina) Adkins and Charlie Adkins; 4 grandchildren, Haylee, Tylor, Hayden, and Brayden. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

Special thanks to our niece, Sabrina Collins for everything she has done in this devastating time.

Service will be 2:00 p.m., Monday, September 19, 2022, at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek. Friends may gather one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Easter “Alice” Miller

Easter “Alice” Miller, 85, of Sod, WV, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, September 14, 2022, at home. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clayton Miller, parents Woodrow and Jenny Burnette, brother, David Barnette, sister, Barbara Barnette, son, Pat Miller, and granddaughter, Felicia Miller.

Alice is survived by her sons, John Miller, Wayne Miller and Ralph Miller, and daughter, Delta Carpenter, brothers, Tommy and Clarence Barnette and sisters, Margaret McCormick and Phyllis Greene. She is also survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and extended church family.

Graveside service will be 2:00pm Monday, September 19, 2022, at Lively Cemetery, Sod, with Rev. Paul Little officiating.

Orpha Jane Eskew

Orpha Jane Eskew, 84, of Emmons, WV, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, September 13, 2022, at CAMC – Memorial Hospital, Charleston, WV. Orpha gave her heart to the Lord and she is now with her Lord and Savior. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Washington Eskew, and parents, Dewey & Mollie Chandler Minner, son, Jessie Lee Eskew, and brothers, Hansford, Jerry and Stanley Minner.

Orpha served as custodian for Alum Creek Elementary for 24 years.

She is survived by her daughters, Janet Eskew, Violet Eskew, Marlene (Michael) Graley, Sherry (Chris) Hodges, and son, Gordon (Karen) Eskew. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Tricia, Ashley, Michael, George Allen and Alex, four great-grandchildren, Mercedes, Griffin, Titan, and Aspyn, and sisters, Barbara Holstine and Judy Holstine.

Service will be 1:00pm. Saturday, September 17, 2022, at Curry Funeral Home, with Pastor Michael Graley officiating. Burial will follow at Forks of Coal Memorial Park, Alum Creek. Family and friends will gather one hour prior to the service.

Charles “Ken” Poling

Charles “Ken” Poling, 86, of South Charleston, passed away on Saturday, September 10, 2022, after a long illness.

He was preceded in death by his mother and stepfather, Aileen and Neil Stalnaker and brother, Roger.

He retired from Thomas Memorial Hospital and was also a volunteer there after his retirement. He was a member of Mountain Heights Church. He loved his church and his church family.

Ken is survived by his wife of 43 years, Maggie; and sister, Trudie (Lane) Hanson of Weeki Wachee, FL. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Service will be 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 13, 2022, at Mountain Heights Church, South Charleston with Pastor Brian Hughes officiating. Burial will follow at Orchard Hills Memory Gardens, Yawkey. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.

Donald C. Whitten

Donald C. Whitten, 73, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, of Griffithsville, passed away on Saturday, September 10, 2022, at CAMC Memorial after a long illness.

He was preceded in death by a precious son, Kenny Whitten, his parents, Kenneth and Hazel Bays Whitten, brothers, Barry and Roger Whitten, and sister, Sharon Baisden.

Donald had a love for sports and excelled as an athlete. He co-owned and operated Whitten Brothers Grocery for many years. He loved his family above all else and had the kindest and most generous heart. Everyone who knew him loved him.

Donald is survived by his wife of 55 years, Charlotte Cummings Whitten, daughter, Sue McComas of Griffithsville, sons, Donnie (Shawnda) Whitten of Yawkey and Michael Whitten of Griffithsville, brother, Ronald (Katherine) Whitten of Griffithsville, grandchildren, Nick Whitten, Brady (Sydney), Carson, and Carly McComas, Annie (Justin), Garrett, Michael II (Cheyanne), Wade, and Joe Whitten, and Alex Prince of Uneeda, 3 great granddaughters and a host of nieces and nephews.

Service will be 3:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 13, 2022, at Curry Funeral Home with Pastors Rick Cooper and Darrell Searls officiating. Burial will follow at Orchard Hills Memory Gardens, Yawkey. Friends may gather 2 hours prior to the service at the funeral home.

Paula Lois Ellison

She is survived by her mother and stepfather, Evelyn & Eugene Ball; son, Joe (Melissa) Pauley; sisters, Diana Coffman and Patty (Howard) Pauley; brother, Matt (Katye) Pauley; two grandchildren, Dalton and Isaiah; nieces, Grayce, Anita, and Amy; nephews, Garrett, Tyler, and Scott.

Services are private and Paula will be laid to rest at the Old Pine Grove-Anderson Cemetery, Sumerco.
