Nancy Elizabeth Parsons, 55, of South Charleston, passed away Saturday, May 31, 2003 at home of an extended illness of cancer.

She was the daughter of the late Everette H. and Ruth C. Eplin.

Nancy is a former member of Alum Creek Independent Missionary Baptist Church and had recently attended Twin City Bible Church in Nitro. As a teenager, Nancy was saved at Mt. Olivet Baptist Church, Kanawha City, and faithfully served the Lord thereafter. Over the years, she served as Sunday School teacher, church secretary and junior church leader at various churches that she attended. She most loved serving in hospital ministry and sharing the gospel and messages of hope.

Her working career consisted of 32 years at Columbia Gas and fifteen months at Charleston National Bank (presently Bank One).

She is survived by her husband, Charles H. “Buddy” Parsons; and two brothers, John E. Eplin and his wife Kay; Albert O. Eplin and his wife, Janice all of South Charleston. She is also survived by one niece Sheri Lanier and her husband, Daniel and their two children Cory Hunter and Cole Logan of South Charleston; and one nephew Tom Elplin and his wife, Annette of Brunswick, Georgia.

Friends may call on Monday, June 2, 2003 from 6 to 9 PM at the Alum Creek Independent Missionary Baptist Church. Service will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, June 3, 2003 at the church with Pastor Frank Chapman, along with Pastor Bill Egerdahl and Youth Pastor Scott Bandy of Twin City Bible Church officiating. Mr. Tom Parsons of Alum Creek will be singing.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests a donation to the Ronald McDonald House in Charleston.
Entombment will be at Graceland Memorial Park in South Charleston. Curry Funeral Home of Alum Creek is in charge of arrangements.

Troy Daniel Pauley, 77, of Alum Creek, died Thursday, May 29, 2003 at home.

He survived by his: 1 Sister: Mayme Walker of Columbus, OH; 1 Brother: Billy Pauley of South Charleston, WV.

A graveside service was held at Lively Cemetery, Sod, on Tuesday, June 3, 2003 at 6:00 PM with Terry Walker officiating. Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, was in charge of the arrangements.

Inis T. McCallister, 89, of Griffithsville, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, May 27, 2003 at CAMC Memorial division after a short illness.

She was a homemaker and a member of Elizabeth Baptist Church, Garretts Bend. She was preceded in death by her husband, Guy and a daughter, Maxine Nunn.

She is survived by her: 6 Daughters: Thelma Phelps, Sylvia Bird, Erma Welch and Sue Griffith all of Sod; Nellie Mitchell of Yawkey; Mary Pollard of Griffithsville; 3 Sons: Junior “Buddy” McCallister and Billy McCallister both of Griffithsville; Denver “Buck” McCallister of Sod; 4 Sisters: Georgia Dragoo of NJ; Dora Jefferys of South Charleston; Myrtle Alford of Scott Depot; Zulema Jaynes of Griffithsville; 1 Brother: Oscar Dragoo of Griffithsville; 20 Grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren and several step grand children.

Services will be 4:00 PM on Thursday, May 29, 2003 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Pastor Mike Kordusky officiating. Burial will be in Orchard Hills Memory Gardens, Yawkey. Friends may call 1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Ernest Justice, 72, of Sod, died Tuesday, May 27, 2003 after a short illness.

He was retired from the Laborers Local 1353, a member of the Griffithsville Masonic Lodge, the Scottish Rite and Beni Kedem.

John Mark Parsons

John Mark Parsons, 79, of St Albans, formerly of Olcott, died Saturday, May 24, 2003 at home after a long illness.

He was born at Olcott and was preceded in death by his wife, Audrey E. Williams Parsons and nine siblings. He was a retired pipe fitter and a member of the Plumbers-Pipe fitters Local 625. He was a WWII Army veteran and a Christian.

He is survived by a daughter: Audrey J. Parsons of NC; Grandsons: Jeremy B. Parsons and Jonathan R. Cobb both of KY; Several nieces and nephews; Special Garegivers: Carl and Sandi Parsons, Alfred Newman and Hospice of Kanawha Co.

Services will be 2:00 PM on Tuesday at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Rev. James McCallister officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Memorial Park, South Charleston. Friends may call from 7 to 9 PM on Monday at the funeral home.

Elsie E. Slack, 83, of Alum Creek, died Monday, May 19, 2003 at the home of her daughter, Mary Holstein.

She is also survived by her other daughter, Carol Holstein; 10 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and one great great grandson.

Services will be held on Wednesday, May 21, 2003 at 2:00 PM at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, with Rev. Larry Ross officiating. Burial will beheld in Marmet Cemetery, Marmet. Friends may call on Tuesday from 6 to 9 PM at the funeral home.

Nettie “Duckie” Hughes, 72, formerly of Peytona, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, May 13, 2003 at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Gloria Jean and Roger Pauley of Myra, with whom she resided.

She was a homemaker and a born-again Christian.

She is also survived by: 3 Sons and daughter-in-laws: Michael and Mollie Hughes of Peytona; George and Shazon Hughes of Peytona; Danny and Teresa Hughes of Alum Creek; 2 Additional daughters and son-in-laws: Freeda and Leroy Crockett of Ripley; Dessie and Thurman Lovejoy of Woodville; 14 Grandchildren; 14 Great Grandchildren.

Service will be 11:00 AM Friday, May 16, 2003 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Pastor Dwight McClure and Pastor Danny Hughes officiating. Burial will be in Hughes Family Cemetery, Ely. Stella Francis Sanford

Stella Francis Sanford, 95, of Elkview, formerly of South Charleston, died Monday, May 13, 2003 at the home of her niece, Arlene.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford; daughter, Sandra Linville; and son, Lloyd Sanford.

Stella was a retired cook from the Kanawha County Board of Education and a member of the Davis Creek Church of the Nazarene, where she taught Sunday school for 25 years.

She is survived by her: Loving niece and caregiver: Arlene and her husband, H. D. Sams of Elkview; 6 Grandchildren; 11 Great Grandchildren;

Services will be held at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, on Friday, May 16, 2003 at 2:00 PM with Pastor Merlin Provance officiating. Burial will be held in Graceland Memorial Park, South Charleston. Emory Hughie Graley, 84, of Winfield, died Sunday, May 11, 2003 at Teays Valley Center after a long illness.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ezra and Sadie Alshire Graley; wife of 62 years, Helen Margaret Richard Graley; son, Carles H. Graley; grandson, Hank Graley; granddaughter, Missy Foster; brothers, Emmitt, Earl, and Everette.

He was a retired self-employed contractor, an avid baseball player, and enjoyed camping and fishing.
