Anna Louise Byrd 81 of Sumerco went home to be with the Lord on Monday, July 28, 2008 at Thomas Memorial Hospital in So Charleston after a long illness.

She was preceded in death by her husband Arnold Byrd, her parents, Orvil & Vallie Breedlove Roberts.

She is survived by sons: Orvil Lee Byrd of Sumerco, Ray Byrd of St Albans,

Step mother: Lucy Roberts of Alkol

Brothers: Buster Roberts of Sumerco, Harry Roberts of Sod, Harley, Robert and Arthur Roberts all of Alkol

Sisters: Mabel Waits of Shelbyville, KY   Maggie Abbott & Julia Roberts of Alkol

Lula Bell Hayes, Rose Johnston and Rebecca Cook all of St Albans.

3 grandchildren: Sarah, Eric & Nicole Byrd of St. Albans

Services will be 2:00 PM on Thursday, July 31, 2008 at the Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Rd., Alum Creek, with Pastor Richard McCallister  officiating.  Burial will be in Orchard Hills Memory Gardens at Yawkey.  Friends may call 1 hour prior to the services at the funeral home.

Fred D. Shamblin, Sr.

Fred D. Shamblin, Sr., 75, of Scott Depot formerly of Davis Creek died Saturday, July 26, 2008 at CAMC Teays Valley Hospital after a short illness.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Lou Shamblin.

He was a retired truck driver with Chemical Leaman Tanklines; an Air Force veteran of the Korean War and a member of the Teamster Union Local #175.

He is survived by :

2 Daughters: Pam Scragg &   Debra Perry both of South Charleston

Service will be 11:00 am Tuesday, July 29, 2008 at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek with Pastor Larry Halley officiating.  Burial will be in Graceland Memorial Park, South Charleston.  Friends may gather Monday from 7 to 9 pm at the funeral home.

Dorothy E. Price

Dorothy E. Price, 80 of Woodville, went to her heavenly home Thursday, July 24, 2008, after a long illness.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert T. and Arzona M. McClure Price; sisters , Alice Faye Tyler and Irene Pauley; brothers Denzil and Herbert “Fat” Price.

She was a bookkeeper for Ellis Department Store and A.W. Cox Department Store in Madison.  She taught in a one-room school during WWII on an emergency teaching certificate, and also worked in the glass plant in Charleston during WWII.  She was a graduate of Duval High School, Giffithsville and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Woodville.

She is survived by her daughter, LaDonna Joan Mason and husband, Charles Edward; son, Michael Dean Price and wife, Suzie; grandchildren, Kaytlin Eileene PRice and Sean Michael Price; brothers and sisters, Curtis (Geraldene) PRice, Marie “Lit” Vickers, Ann “Sweet” (Herman) Byrd, HAssel (Sharon) Price, Gene (Betty) Price, and Arleene (Ervin) Barrickman; family friend, Tom L. Asbury and over 21 nieces and nephews.

Dorothy was devoted to her family, her children, parents, brothers and sisters. She enjoyed painting, sewing, fishing, and exploring her beloved mountains, valleys, streams, and rivers.

The family sents a special “thank you” to the nurses, CNAs, and housekeepers at Thomas Memorial Hospital 2-Front and ICU. Also to Sandy in Dietary, Dr. Timothy Harper, Dr. S. Kalou, and Hospice Care for their wonderful care.  Kindness is remembered long after the deed is done.

Services will be 2:00 PM on Monday, July 28, 2008 at the Curry Funeral Home Chapel 2097 Childress Rd., Alum Creek with PAstor Arthur Hensley officiating.  Burial will be in Orchard Hills Memory Gardens at Yawkey.  Friends will gather from 4 to 6 OM on Sunday at the funeral home.

Judy Gay Matthews Ernest, 59, passed away in Springfield, MO, Tuesday,  July 9, 2008.

She was born in Ferguson, West Virginia on December 22, 1948.

Mrs. Ernest was a longtime resident of Huntington and Alum Creek and an 18 year resident of Springfield, MO.

She was employed at Lowe’s for 17 years where she dearly loved her job, her co-workers and her Customers. She was a member of Second Baptist Church in Springfield. Her Sunday School Class had much an impact on her life and she cherished all of the ladies in her class.

She was a wonderful mother who was dearly loved by her children. She was also dearly loved by her sisters.

Mrs. Ernest was preceded in death by her parents, Howard Walter Matthews and Dollie Nelson Matthews.

Survivors include her daughter; Kristi Ernest Pritt of Charleston, two sons; Matthew Wayne Ernest of Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, and Marc Liston Ernest with the U.S. Navy in Japan.  Three grandchildren: Rina Marie Ernest, Kent Bryson Ernest and Kai Clark Ernest.

Two sisters: Sue Ann Simmons of Springfield, MO and her fraternal twin; Janet Clark of Flatwoods, Kentucky.

Visitation and services were held at Second Baptist Church in Springfield, Missouri on July 12, 2008.

Private graveside services and burial with family and friends will be 4:00 PM Thursday July 17, at Forks of Coal Cemetery at Alum Creek with Pastor Frank Chapman officiating. Visitation for family and friends will held one hour prior to service at the Curry Funeral Home 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Second Baptist Church, attn: Pat Breckenridge Sunday School Class, for Mission Work, 3111 Battlefield, Springfield, MO 65804.

Evelyn Wilma Gillispie, 63, of Emmons went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, July 8, 2008  after a short illness.

She was a member of Emmons Freewill Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Charles

Herbert H. (Fats) Price, 78,  of Woodville, WV died Thursday, July 3, 2008  at home.

He was the son of the late Herbert T. & Arizona (McClure) Price; a member of the UMWA and a Marine Veteran of the Korean Conflict.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years: Eythel Price

Hazel “Marie” Chandler Collins, 83 of Alkol, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 3, 2008 at Thomas Memorial Hospital, South Charleston after a short illness.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years Edward Collins, parents Bill and Minnie Chandler and four brothers Johnny, Roy, Dot and Don Chandler and one sister Lori Stowers.

She is survived by her: four children, Danny and wife, Janet, of Alkol, Jackie and wife, Brenda, of Morrisvale, Diane Adkins of Alkol and Kenny at home.

Two sisters, Thelma Richardson and Mildred Hughes and her husband Bill all of Culloden, and one brother Jimmy Chandler and his wife Louise of Logan.

A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, July 6, at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek with Pastor Randall Kinder officiating. Burial will be at Orchard Hills Memory Gardens, Yawkey. Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
