Whether you called him Tarpin, Burhead, Arpie, or Wild Man, one thing is certain – to know Auther Ray Mosteller, 86, of Sod, WV, was to love him.

On May 16, 1934 his journey began filled with adversity and hardships that would mold him into the kind, loving man who, on January 25, 2021, was called home by his Lord and Savior to join his parents, Lee E. and Edna Viola (Mynes) Mosteller; his siblings, Donald, Ruth, Thelma, Dorothy, Roger, and Mary Mosteller;  half-siblings, Edna, Norma, Junior, Agnes, Roy, Sue, Denzil, and Denver Chandler for the big reunion on Heaven’s Golden Shores.

Connie and Mike Mosteller opened their home to Auther to help him get on his feet, but it didn’t take long before he became a beloved member of the family. He didn’t have any children and was never married, but he will carry on forever in memory.

Auther Ray Mosteller is survived by his best buddies, Dustin, Misti, Michael, Mike and Connie Mosteller, Christi Clendenin, Anika McCormick, and each of their wives/husbands/children; his surrogate great-grandchildren; Cierra, MacKenzie, Michael, Tanner, Khloe, Kylie, Will, Hunter, Lillian, Joel, Lacey, and Skyler; and his surrogate great-great-grandchildren; Liam, Easton, Emma Rae, Grayson, & Isabella; and sister-in-law, Barbara Mosteller.

Special thank you to his friends; David Stowers and Ralph Lee for keeping in contact throughout his life; his friend and caregiver Arzella Rice, as well as, the rest of the amazing staff at the Oakridge Center and  Curry Funeral Home for making me feel like family instead of a customer by going above and beyond.

Graveside services will be determined at a later date.
