Fredrick “Rudy” Rudolph McClure, 76, of Dunbar passed away Saturday, September 24, 2016 at Thomas Memorial Hospital in South Charleston.

He was a Sales Engineer with FMC Corporation and a veteran of the U. S. Navy.

Rudy is survived by sons, Brian L. McClure of New Jersey, J. D. McClure of Jacksonville, Florida and James C. McClure of Charleston;  sisters, Peggy Nichols, Linda Flagg and Susan Cook;  and brother, Rick Thornton.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Laura E. Mann

laura-mannLura E. Mann, 91, of Alum Creek, departed this life Sunday, September 25, 2016, at the home of her sister.  Lura was born to Harry M. & Helen E. Pauley on May 14, 1925.  She was the 3rd of 6 daughters.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her sisters, Brookie Boilon, Geradine McGhee, Louise Dunlap, Ethel Pauley and her two brothers Denver Pauley & infant Romey.

Lura taught in a one room school during WWII after her graduation she was later employed by Owens-Illinois and  Kanawha County Schools as a cook at Ruthlawn Elementary.

She was a devoted sister and aunt, and was the family historian.  Lura could remember all the birthdays, anniversaries, weddings and deaths that occurred in the immediate and extended family.

She leaves to mourn her passing, sister: Dorothy Lively, nieces: Beverly DeBord, Darlene Burton and nephews John and Glenn McGhee and her great-niece Mischelle Richardson, who faithfully helped with care in her waning days.

The family wishes to thank Hospice for their tender and loving care, especially caregivers Peggy, Joan and Jennifer.

Service will be held 1:00 pm Thursday, September 29, 2016 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, with Pastor David Mitchell officiating.  Interment will follow at Graceland Memorial Park, South Charleston.  Visitation will be  6:00 – 8:00pm Wednesday, September 28, 2016.

Carrie Faye Davidson

She was preceded in death by her husband, John D. Davidson and grandson, Jason Davidson.

Faye was a homemaker and a member of the Alum Creek Church of Christ.

She is survived by sons, Joe Owen, David Davidson and James (Shirley) Davidson; 8 grandchildren, several great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Service will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, September 26, 2016 at Curry Funeral Home in Alum Creek with Pastor Butch Leadman and Minister Richard Runyan officiating.  Burial will follow at Owen-Davidson Family Cemetery, Alum Creek.   The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Leonard Leroy Morgan

He was a retired employee of  Wesley Kirk’s Tree Service.

Leonard was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert “Tucker”  and Enola Morgan.

He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Deborah; daughters, Elizabeth (Travis) Myers and Brittney (Travis) Morgan; stepson, David Holstein; grandchildren, Jeremy, Enola, Maverick and Chase; sisters, Donna C. Morgan, Sherry (Gene) Angel, Linda (Kevin) Leidig; and brothers, D.A. (Grace), Johnny (Teresa),  and Herbert Jr. (Tammy) Morgan.

Service will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, September 23, 2016 at Curry Funeral Home in Alum Creek with Pastor Mike Gibson officiating.   Burial will follow at Barker Cemetery, Ashford.  The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions for the funeral service.

Mark Alan (Bubby) Smith

mark-smithMark Alan (Bubby) Smith, 38, of Charleston, went to be with Jesus  Monday, September 19, 2016 at home after his battle with diabetes with his loving family by his side.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Donald H. Smith, Carl E. Jr. and Regina Graley; his cousin, Ronnie Graley; great grandparents, Carl E. Sr. and Dessie Gertrude Graley, Donnie E. Sr. and Dude Smith, Wes and Nada Strickland and Uncle Mark Madden.

Mark is survived by his parents, Demarcus (Mark) and Melinda Smith; sisters, Michelle (Shell) and Rocky (Bull) Tyler, Marsha (Sissy) and Tim White; nieces, Mara (son) and Kyle Stevenson, Brooke Lavonna (Daughter) Tyler; nephew, Trenton Hunter White; and great nieces, Lydia Stevenson, who is soon to be born; grandmother, Lorraine Smith, known as  Momaw Up; aunts and uncles, Donald (Duck) and Marilyn Smith, Vanessa and James Starcher, Penny Madden, Bruce Graley, Patricia and William Hill, who were lovingly known as Mom and Dad, with a host of family, friends and cousins.   All of his nieces and nephews were the loves of his life, whenever they would come into the room Mark would light up all over.

Service will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, September 24, 2016 at Curry Funeral Home in Alum Creek with Ella Hoffman officiating.  Burial will follow at Forks of Coal Cemetery.  The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Many thanks and love to Vicky Crone (Icky), Drema and Leo (EO), Teresa, Ella, Susan who came and showed support through this difficult time; and to all the neighbors and church family that sent food and came to visit.   A special thanks to the nurses from Hospice that gave us all their support and listened to us cry, let us express ourselves and who took such loving care and keeping Mark comfortable.  He taught the family how to love unconditionally and will be greatly missed by many.

Katherine Frances Holstine

She was a homemaker and attended the Emmons Church of God.

Katherine is survived by nieces, Kathy Garretson, Jacqueline Ross and Rachel Stringer; nephews, Robert, David, Jackie and Jamie Stringer, Michael and Timmy Graley, Virgil Gillispie, Roy and Teddy Walls; several great nieces, nephews and many friends.

Service will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, September 22, 2016 at the Emmons Church of God with Pastor Michael Graley officiating.  Burial will follow at the  Morris Cemetery in Grippe.   The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service at the church.

 

Doris Lee Kay

doris-kayDoris Lee Kay, 77, of St. Albans passed away Friday, September 16, 2016 at the Dunbar HealthCare Center after a long illness.

She was a 1957 graduate of Ripley High School and  formerly worked at Citizen’s National Bank of St. Albans as a bookkeeper and as a teller.

Doris was a longtime member of Highlawn Baptist Church of Saint Albans, serving as a Sunday School teacher, Vacation Bible School director and on various boards and committees.  She also enjoyed spending time with family and children, knitting, crocheting and her dog, Willie.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Martin Smith and Ora Wolfe Smith of Ripley, as well as her brother, Jack Smith.

Doris was devoted to her family.   She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother.  She is survived by her husband of over 58 years, Vernon L. Kay; daughters, Sandy Benoit (and Raoul), and Anita Broyles (and Bill); sons, Michael Kay and John Kay (and Krystal); grandchildren, Beth, Kyle, Amy, Matthew, Chip, Christian, Katelyn and Charlie; great-grandchildren, Luke, Josh and Addy; brother, Bob Smith; and sister, Connie Moore.

Service will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 20, 2016 at Highlawn Baptist Church, 2304 Jefferson Ave., St. Albans with Rev. Rob Ely officiating.  Burial will follow at Cunningham Memorial Park in St. Albans.   The family will receive visitors from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. Monday, September 19, at the church.

Texas Gagne Coto Smith

texas-smithTexas Gagne Coto Smith, 89, of Costa went to sleep and woke up in heaven Wednesday, September 14, 2016 at home.

She was a former teachers aid and cook for Boone County schools and loved children.  She was a member of Nellis Wesleyan Church where she was a Sunday school teacher.

Texas  was preceded in death by her husband, Elvin Junior Smith; and parents, Serfine and Sarah Ann Ward Coto.

She is survived by daughters, Sandy Green of Charleston, Tena (Bill) Webb of Sumerco; son, Elvin James (Viktoriya) Smith; grandchildren, Michael “Moe” Green, Matthew Green, Justin Webb, Blake Smith and Mary Smith; and great grandchildren, Maisie, Saidie, Michael and Lucas.

The family would like to express a special thank you to Hospice and  her caregivers, Rosa Harless, Wendy Cabell Mitchelle, Michelle Harless, Cathy Savalli, Teresa Harrington and Crystal Cauthers.

Service will be 7:00 p.m. Friday, September 16th, at Nellis Wesleyan Church with Pastor Roger Kratz officiating.  The family will recieve friends from 5 – 7:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church.   Entombment will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday at Cunningham Memorial Park Upper Mausoleum in St. Albans.

Jerry Wayne Wade

jerry-wadeMr. Jerry Wayne Wade, 68, of Yawkey passed away Sunday, September 11, 2016 at CAMC-Memorial Hospital after a long illness.

Jerry was born on May 11, 1948 in Madison, WV, to the late Basil and Virginia Crawford Wade. He was also preceded in death by brothers: Billy R. and Carl Wade of Michigan, Richard Wade of Long Beach, California and sister Betty Lou Kozma of New Jersey.

Jerry was a member of Amy Baptist Church and more recently attended Beech Grove Baptist Church until his illness.  He attended Duval High School.  He worked for Pennzoil and retired from HG Energy after 39 years of service and was a member of Teamsters Local #175 and the Griffithsville Masonic Lodge #71.

Jerry is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years, Sue Wade; son, Gary Wade of Yawkey; brothers: Charles (Cookie) of Millville, NJ; Cyril (Rose) of Vineland, NJ; Rickey (Wanda)  of Yawkey, WV; sisters: Gladys McCormick of Sterling Hts., Michigan, Shelby “Jean” (Jimmy) Cook of Orlando, FL, and Melissa (Mark) Petrowski of Hedgesville, WV.  Also survived by a host of nieces and nephews and special niece Teresa Mills of Virginia and special friend Linda Withrow.

The family wishes to offer a special thank you to CAMC-Memorial CPICU doctors and nurses for the special care.  Also thanks to Dr. Rahman for his special care.

Service will be 1:00pm Thursday, September 15, 2016, at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, with Pastor Butch Leadman officiating.  Burial will follow at Orchards Hills Memory Gardens, Yawkey, WV, with Masonic Graveside Rites by Griffithsville Lodge #71.   The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00pm, Wednesday, September 14th at the funeral home.

 

Ella Jane Bare Hess

ella-hess3 Ella Jane Bare Hess, 81, of Charleston entered into Heaven to sing with the angels Monday, September 5, 2016 at home surrounded by her loving family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Lee Hess; parents, Forrest and Stella Bare; brothers, Alec, John Sr., Jimmy, Teddy and Jerry Bare.

Ella was a lifelong member of Davis Creek Church of the Nazarene where she had served as Sunday School teacher, choir member, board member and many other capacities, especially singing solos that touched many hearts.   She was co-owner of Hess Roofing Co. Inc., established in 1969.

She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.  Ella is survived by her daughters, Connie (Lanny) Oxley, Kathy Armstrong,  Lori (Jan Barry) Hatfield, Jennifer Hess (fiance`, William Eads, Jr.); son, Charles Edwin (Vanessa) Hess; siblings, JoAnn Hess, Joe (Regina) Bare and Karen (Jeff) Carroll; grandchildren, Allison Plants, Emily (Austin) Boyd, Kimberly “Cabbage Head” Armstrong, Barry (Jordan) Hatfield, LeeAnn Hess, Megan Hess and Brodie Miller, her little buddy; great grandchildren, Peyton and Grant Plants and Gavin and Isabella Boyd.

Service will be 12:00 noon Friday, September 9, 2016 at Davis Creek Church of the Nazarene, with Pastors Sandy Burdette and Richard Wagoner officiating.  Burial will follow at Graceland Memorial Park, South Charleston.  The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and  1 hour prior to the service Friday at the church.
