Elizabeth Carole Holder, 79, of Tornado, WV, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 20, 2024, at Hubbard Hospice House. She was born in Ansted, WV on January 28, 1945. She was preceded in death by her parents, Wallace “Charles” McClary and Novella Virginia Bennett, son, Kelly Lee Holder and her husband, Richard.

She is survived by her sons, Craig Holder and Allen (Kim) Holder, daughters-in-law, Lori Holder Curry and Sara Holder, and grandchildren, Samuel Allen Holder (Laura), Amanda Wen Lowery (Trey), Elijah Kelly Holder, and Ruthalyn Wen Holder, and one great-grandson, Hayes Thomas Holder.

Carol was a 1963 graduate of Ansted High School and married Richard Arlin Holder on April 3, 1964. She was baptized at the age of 24 at the Church of Christ on Park Ave., Charleston, WV. She was a member of the Alum Creek Church of Christ.

She loved her family, especially her grandchildren, and her sons and daughters-in-law along with several special friends. She loved many of the children she got acquainted with while working as secretary at Midway Elementary. Most of all she loved her Lord.

Service will be 11:00am Saturday, October 26, 2024, at Curry Funeral Home with Ministers Joseph Watts and Louis Watts officiating. Burial will follow at the Forks of Coal Memorial Park, Alum Creek.

Friends and family will gather on Friday, October 25th from 6:00pm – 8:00pm at the funeral home.

Kyle Talmadge Graley, Sr., 93 of Emmons went home to be with the Lord, Friday, October 11, 2024, at Thomas Memorial Hospital.

Kyle retired from CSX with 43yrs & 8 months service. He started his career at C & O as an oiler, carman, brakeman, and conductor. He was a member of UTU.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Geraldine Graley; parents, Milton & Irene Flynn Graley; son, Dwight Graley; brothers, David, Larry, Harold, Milton Jr.; sisters, Shelby Turner, Imogene Parsons, Virginia Graley and baby Graley; grandsons, K.T. Graley, III, Jason Hoffman, John Seacrist; great grandson, John Seacrist, II.

Kyle is survived by his wife, Deloris Ann Graley; children, Peggy Ann Graley, Delores Jean Stover, Kyle Talmadge Graley, Jr. (Valarie), Marsha Lynn Eary, Michael Graley (Marlene), Donna Kay Olson (Tommy); daughter-in-law, Sue Graley; brother, Robert Graley; sister, Betty Bailey(Jude); grandchildren, Deanna Seacrist, Angie Holstein, Jeff Eary, Marty Eary, Jennifer Anderson, D.W. Graley, Joey Graley, Stevie Graley, Ashley Mott, Michael Graley, Chase Graley, Thomas Olson, Anthony Olson; a host of great grandchildren and great great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews; also, his dog, Lady.

Carla Rae Parsons, 52, of Alum Creek departed this world on October 9th, 2024. Carla was born in Man, WV the daughter of Katherine Riffe Miller and Billy Ray Miller. Carla was a beautiful majorette for Scott High School graduating in 1990.

Carla went on to graduate from Southern West Virginia Community College becoming a Registered Nurse. She spent most of her life caring for others, but her first love was delivering hundreds of babies at CAMC Women’s and Children’s Labor and Delivery. She ended her nursing career at Thomas Hospital. On and off the floor, she was the most devoted nurse in every capacity.

Carla’s love in life was being outside and making everything beautiful. Carla was the light in the room and was there to make you laugh and smile.

Carla leaves behind so many people that loved her. Her husband of 10 years, Mitchell Parsons, her parents that she adored, Bill and Kathy Miller of North Fork. She leaves behind the loves of her life; what she would always call her greatest accomplishment in life, her children, Nicholas (Tiffany) Marcum, Katie (Dakota) Coombs, Mika Duty, Isaiah “Charlie” Parsons, Dane Parsons and Krystal (Jay) Fankhauser. Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her grandchildren, Lilly and Harper Coombs, Bo Marcum and Leah Fankhauser. She is the sister of Amber “Nikki” (Richie) Belcher, Deana Miller (Sam) Vining, and Billy (Angie) Miller. Carla also shared a special bond with her Mother-in-Law Essie Parsons and her Aunt Phyllis White.

She also loved her animals, including her sweet Scooby that we know met her in Heaven the day she departed this life. She had so many best friends that filled her life full of great memories.

Pallbearers will be Dakota Coombs, Richie Belcher, Alex Miller, Jonathan Downs, Charlie Parsons and James Starcher. Honorary pallbearers will be Gary Craig Adkins, Serafino Nolletti, Harry Keith White, Jack Baisden and Zack Marcum.

Services will be 1:00pm, Monday, October 14, 2024, at Curry Funeral Home at Alum Creek. Visitation will be from 11am-1pm. Burial will follow at Graceland Cemetery. The ceremony will be officiated by Lee Dean and David Mitchell.

Rudy Dale Pauley, Jr., 71, of Alum Creek, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, at CAMC-Memorial, Charleston, WV. He was preceded in death by his father, Rudy D. Pauley, Sr., aunt, Patty Spaulding and her son, Kevin Miller, mother & father-in-law, Tom & Lois Stevens, sister-in-law, Linda Clark, niece, Kelly Curry, and great-nephew, Ian Frampton.

He earned his Doctorate in Leadership Studies from WVU, Educational Specialist Degree in Superintendency and MA Degree in Counseling from Marshall University. His undergraduate degree was from Liberty University, and he also attended Morris Harvey College and WV State College. He was a 1970 graduate of Duval High School. He often said that ‘people don’t care how much you know, until they know how much you care’.

While employed by Marshall University he served as a Professor and Interim Dean and was Associate Vice President for Outreach & Continuing Studies when he retired. In 2002, Rudy was nationally recognized for his role in developing online learning in WV as the recipient of the national award for “Innovative Excellence in Teaching, Learning and Technology” and in 2005 he was the recipient of the MU-Dr. Carolyn Hunter Distinguished Faculty Service Award.

Before deciding to continue his education, he worked for BRIT Tire Company (family business), Tim Runyan Realty Company and Lincoln County Schools. He was an active member of the Alum Creek Lions Club. In his youth Dale attended Cobbs Creek Missionary Baptist Church and Camp Cowen. Dale loved to cook meals for family, friends and the Lions Club. During his life he had many different hobbies, but in retirement his fishing trips were special times.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 52 years, Beverly Joy Pauley, mother, Virginia Pauley and brother Rick (Yvonne) Pauley, Sod, WV. Sisters & Brothers-in-law, Gail (Randy) Curry of Alum Creek, WV, and Debbie (David) Bailey of Greer, SC, & T.R. “Tom” Stevens, (Linda Combs) of Charleston, WV.

Of all the titles he had, being called, “Uncle Dale” was his favorite. He is survived by nephews & nieces, Sarah (Jamie) Thompson, Alum Creek, Corey & Dawn Clark, Conover, NC, Kristin & Travis Halstead, Elkview, WV, Heath Curry, Alum Creek, Haley (David) Miles, Cape Town, South Africa, Leslie & Clyde McKnight, Hubert, NC, Rockne & Lauren Stevens, Dunbar, WV, and Olivia Stevens Beck & Brett, Nitro, WV, Joey (Jennifer) Bailey, & Adam Bailey of Greer, SC, and his Aunt Kay (Duke) Belcher, Satsuma, FL.

Great-Nephews & Great-Nieces, Sarah, Grant, Joshua “Sugar Bear”, Jacob, Luke, Colt, Kylie Joy, Caden, Gavin, Vivian, Fiona, Maverick, Belle, Taylor, Connor, Jakob, Noelle, Lily Joy, Bella and Asher, and many friends, family and wonderful neighbors.

Talmadge Rosewell Scragg (T.R.) 69, of Charleston peacefully went to heaven Saturday October 5, 2024, surrounded by his family at CAMC Memorial CPICU.

Born September 23, 1955, to Talmadge and Margaret Frances (Cundiff) Scragg. He grew up in Loudendale and graduated from George Washington High School in 1973. He married his true love and soul mate Pamela Sue Shamblin on June 29, 1974, and celebrated their 50th anniversary this year. He was an amazing loving dedicated father to daughter Renee Dawn Crowder (Ryan) and son Travis Rosewell (Amber) of Charleston.

T.R. loved the outdoors and loved to hunt and fish at his camp in Pocahontas County. He loved to tell stories of great times he had there over the years with family and friends.

He graduated from UEI receiving his Degree as an Electronic Technician.
He was member of the Boilermakers Union. Throughout his career he worked for Birmingham Bolt, Electronic Specialty Company, Buchanan Sound and finally retiring from Newtech. Being who he was he made many lifelong friends from his jobs.

One of his favorite things in life was playing baseball with his kids and grandkids. He was League President and Coach for Mountaineer Little League from 1987-1998 coaching both baseball and softball. You could find him at the ball fields watching his grandkids play up until just a few years ago when he could no longer attend due to his health.

He was one of the biggest WVU Mountaineer fans that you could ever find. He loved attending and watching football games at his house with lots of friends and family. The Cincinnati Reds were his favorite Baseball team, and he loved to take his grandkids to games.

He was a proud grandfather to Colton Wade Fugate, Alexis Rose (Daniel) Lupson, Connor Matthew Fugate, Trevor Rosewell Scragg and great grandfather to Giana Rose Lupson. They were his pride and joy.

He is also survived by siblings, sister Paulette Faye Brown and brother Virgil Ernest Scragg. Along with many nephews and nieces.

He loved life and his family. Always staying positive for everyone. Known for his hard work he was also one of the most loving, strong and smartest men you could meet. The last few years he fought hard against illnesses that came his way never complaining. He was a true fighter. He will be cherished and missed by so many people whose lives he touched.

Service will be at 1 pm Saturday October 12, 2024, at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Pastor Jim Lennox Officiating. Friends and family will gather one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

A private family burial will be at his final resting place Mount Alpha his family cemetery.

Wanda Ruth Stewart, 76, of Alum Creek, passed away Saturday, October 5, 2024, at Hubbard Hospice West.

Wanda was a devoted mother and grandmother that dearly loved all her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry & Virginia Holstein; son, Ricky; sister, Martha Kirk; brother, Garrett Holstein.

Wanda is survived by her husband, Junior; children, Cindy (Keith) Gibson, Kathy Stewart, Joe (Stephanie) Stewart, Carrie (Jamie) Taylor; sisters, Alice (Dallas) Holstein, Regina Williams, Rose Walls, Roxie Eller, Becky (Larry) Thompson; brothers, Paul (Jennifer) Holstein, Joey (Becky) Holstein, Roger Holstein; 29 grandchildren and great grandchildren with four more on the way.

A celebration of Wanda’s life will be held from 2 to 6pm, Sunday, October 13, 2024, at Alum Creek Lions Park Community Center, 4452 Coal River Rd, Alum Creek, WV.

James Carl Roberts, III, 50, of Dunbar passed away Friday, October 4, 2024, at Hubbard Hospice West.

He was a self-employed landscaper and handyman. He was an accomplished guitarist.

James was preceded in death by his father, Jim Roberts; grandparents, Jim & Jo Roberts and Otis & Mary Gillenwater.

He is survived by his mother & stepfather, Dorothy & Roger Profitt; sister, Jessica (Jesse) Price; niece, Makayla Robinson; special friend, Grace Oxley & her children; and his beloved pitbull, Achilles.

Dorothy Mae Lively, 93, of South Charleston passed away Friday, October 4, 2024, at home after an extended illness.

Dorothy was a member of the Charleston Boulevard Seventh-day Adventist Church. She retired as a cook from Kanawha County Schools.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Lively; parents, Harry M. & Helen E. Pauley; sisters, Brookie Boilon, Geraldine McGhee, Louise Dunlap, Ethel Pauley & Lura Mann; brothers, Denver Pauley & infant, Romey.

Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Darlene Burton; only grandson, Russell Mills (Bianca) of Hobe Sound, FL; great granddaughters, Aubrey & Marina Mills; nephew, John McGhee (Kama); great niece, Mischelle Richardson.

Service will be 1:00pm, Tuesday, October 8, 2024, at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Randy Dustin & Pastor Gene Pauley officiating. Burial will follow Graceland Memorial Park, South Charleston. Marlin Kyle “Mike” Allen, 84, of Sissonville went home to be with the Lord Monday, September 30, 2024, at CAMC General Hospital.

Mike was born and raised in Alum Creek, WV. He retired from FMC as a chemical operator. He was a lifelong member of Alum Creek Church of Christ. He loved to read and study his Bible and spend time at the dog track.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Lou Allen; parents, Leighton D. and Pansy Gay Allen.

Mike is survived by his daughters, Monica Lynn Wade and Angela Dawn Allen; sisters, Judy Burnette and Karen Hasibar; grandchildren, Matthew, Michelle, and Chad; great grandchildren, Ethan, Dustin, Alec, Nicolas, and Olivia; one great great granddaughter.

Mike will be cremated and be laid to rest at Hayzlett Cemetery at a later date.
