Delmer B. Samson, 89, of Hamlin, died Friday, March 29, 2002 at home after a short illness.

He was a retired construction worker, a member of Laborers Local #1353 and a lifelong resident of Lincoln County.

Services will be held on Tuesday, Apri12, 2002 at 11:00 AM at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, with Pastor Oshel Bell and Rev. Bruce Keeling officiating. Burial will be in Sansom Cemetery, Griffithsville. Friends may call Monday, April 1, 2002, from 7 to 9 PM at the funeral home.

She was a transportation aid for Kanawha County Board of Education.

Barbarene Jones Pauley, 80, of Charleston died Wednesday, March 27, 2002 at CAMC Memorial Division after a short illness.

She was a homemaker and resident of Charleston for 60 years.

Gladys P. Childress, 94 of South Charleston, died Sunday, March 24, 2002 at home after a long illness.

Gladys was the rock of strength and stability for her family, counseling and guiding each one in times of trouble and sharing in times of joy. She was a talented horse-rider, basketball player in high school, bookkeeper for Schoolfield Harvey Electric, payroll at Union Carbide, gardener, excellent seamstress and cook – winning a W V State prize for bread baking. She was a member and treasurer of Hilltop Baptist Church and has been a member of the Bible Center Church for many years. She had a Beat sense of humor, gave fully of herself and was an immense asset to her family and friends, imparting the training of truth, intestinal fortitude, her faith and ethics. Gladys’ departure will leave a wide void in our lives but she will always be a part of us.

William “Bill” Turley

William “Bill” Turley, 70 of Sod, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 21, 2002.

He was an auto body repairman by trade and spent the last 30 years of his life serving the Lord.

He is survived by his wife, Jean; three daughters, Beverley Hobbs of Ashford, Debbie Sigmon of South Charleston, and Paula Fields of South Charleston; nine sisters, Elaine Akers of South Charleston, Mary Lee Scott of Maryland, Evelyn Chapman of Huntington, Judy Hamill of St. Albans, Sue McCormick of Salem, Virginia, Joan Hayes of Sumerco, Renee Baynes of Dunbar, Helen Hernandez of St. Albans, and Valena Trowbridge of Sumerco; two brothers, Glen Turley of Parkersburg, and Charlie Turley of Falls Church, Virginia; six grandchildren, Gari Ann Boggs, Bradly Linville, Allyson Foster, Jennifer and Diantha Sigmon, and Bobby Fields; three great grandchildren, Miranda and Joshua Boggs, and Chance Sigmon.

John W. “Bill” Wilson

John W. “Bill” Wilson, 74 of South Charleston, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 20, 2002 from CAMC Memorial Hospital.

He was a retired superintendent from the Sanitary Board of South Charleston, a member of the the Davis Creek Church of the Nazarene, a member of the Bennie Padilla VFW Post #4768 and a W WII Navy veteran.

He is survived by his: Wife: Patricia “Pat”; 3 Sons: Brian of Ruckersville, VA; Randy ofNew Canton, VA; John of Deltona, FL; 2 Daughters: Vickie Spurlock of Richmond, VA; Deborah Wilson of St. Albans, WV; 1 Brother: Emmett of Brounland, WV; 2 Sisters: Betty Bookwalter of Bloomington, IN; Shawna Massey of Seth, WV;
7 Grandchildren; 5 Great Grandchildren.

Services will be held at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, on Saturday, March 23, 2002 at 11:00 AM with Pastor Tony Conley officiating. Margaret Lea Dunlap Pauley Scarberry, 53 of Sandyville, died Monday, March 18, 2002 at home after a short illness.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Stephenson Pauley, parents, Hillard Dunlap and Phoeba Armstrong and her brother, James Armstrong.

She is survived by her: Husband: Chester; 2 Sons: Stephenson Pauley, Jr Samuel Pauley; 1 Daughter: Linda Gilliam; Step-Father: Carson Armstrong; 5 Sisters: Rachel Pauley; Barbara Banks; Charlene Smith; Katherine Smith; Sheila Cooper; 8 Grandchildren.

Services will be held at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, on Friday, March 22, 2002 at 3:00 PM with Pastor Danny Kinder, Sr. officiating. Burial will be held in Pine Grove Cemetery, McCorkle. Friends may call on Friday from 1:00 to 3:00 PM at the funeral home.

Rev. Angie Pauley Williams, 94 of Sumerco, went to be with the Lord March 17, 2002 from the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Carl Egnor on Summit Ridge.

Her family is thankful for the loving care that Angela Adkins and Hospice of Lincoln County gave to her during her final days.

Born December 23, 1907, at Colcord, Raleigh County, she was the daughter of the late Mack and Anna Mitchell Pauley. She was also the preceded in death by her husband, Archie Williams.

She lived most of her life in Lincoln County at Sumerco and Woodville. She was a member of Summit Community Church.

Angie was a housewife, an LPN, a cook for Lincoln County Schools, administered a personal care home for seniors for three years, and was an ordained minister of the gospel. She served as pastor of the Summit Church of God, now known as Summit Community Church, for seven years. She also served as the pastor of a small community church, near Mesa, Arizona, for three winters. Angie also served as a community nurse going into many homes to take care of anyone who needed medical attention.

She is survived by one son, John Williams of Dayton, Ohio; five daughters, Nellie McClure and Ann Egnor both of Sumerco, Ruth Cornell of South Charleston, Cornie Loftis Tribble of Charleston, and Came Johnson of New Jersey.

She leaves 94 descendants. In addition to her six children, she leaves 18 grandchildren, four step-grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; 23 great-great grandchildren; and one step-great-great grandchild.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM on Tuesday, March 19, 2002 at the Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Pastor Chuck Adkins and Angie’s grandson, Pastor Dwight McClure officiating. Burial will be in the Pauley Family Cemetery, Woodville. Friends may call from 6 to 8 PM on Monday at the funeral home.

Beverley G. Sowards

Beverley G. Sowards, 48 of Conway, South Carolina, formerly of Sumerco, West Virginia died Friday, March 15, 2002 at Conway Hospital after a long illness.

She was a member of Tilly Swamp Baptist Church.

Services will be 2:00 PM on Wednesday, March 20, 2002 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery at McCorkle. Friends may call from 7 tog PM on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Bernie R. Adkins, 67 of Alkol, died Monday, March 11, 2002 at CAMC Memorial Division after a long illness.

He worked in the timber business all of his life.

He is survived by his: Wife: Deena; Son and daughter-in-law: Timmy and Rosetta Adkins Kinchen of Nellis; Daughter: Jessica Adkins at home; 1 Brother: Okey Adkins of Mud River; 4 Grandchildren, 10 Great Grandchildren, and many loved ones.

Services will be held at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, on Thursday, March 14, 2002 at 1:00 PM with Pastor Chuck Adkins officiating. Burial will be held in the Stone Family Cemetery, Alkol. Friends may call on Wednesday, March 13, 2002 from 6 to 9 PM at the funeral home.
