Helen Jean Waldron, 71, of Cross Lanes, WV, departed this life, Saturday, June 27, 2020 at St. Mary’s Hospital, Huntington, WV.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Gary, grandson, Wyatt A. Ocampo, parents, Dayton & Freda Ulbrich Lovejoy, brother, Donald Lovejoy and sister and brother-in-law, Veda Christine and Jim Campbell.

Helen was a loving wife and mother and she is survived by her daughters, Lisa (Tony) Ocampo of Lexington, KY, and Jennifer (Stephen) Butta of Alum Creek, WV,  four grandchildren, Dustin (Briana) Crisp, Stephen Butta, Victoria and Hillary Ocampo, great-granddaughter, Rosalie Crisp and sister, Linda Canterbury.

Graveside service will be 1:00pm Thursday, July 2, 2020 at Forks of Coal Cemetery, Alum Creek, with Pastor David Mitchell officiating.  There will be a walk through visitation from 12:00 noon to 1:00pm at Curry Funeral Home.

Linda Smith Bird

Linda Smith Bird, 69, of Garretts Bend, Lincoln County, entered into heavenly rest on June 28, 2020 with her family by her side at Hubbard Hospice West located at Thomas Memorial Hospital after a strong and courageous battle with cancer.

Linda was born April 5, 1951 to the late James “Opal” and Ercyle Smith. She was preceded in death by her oldest brother Bennie Arbaugh and his wife Sandy, brother-in-law Allen Facemire, sister-in-law Debbie Smith, and nephew B.J. Facemire.

Linda was a 1969 graduate of Duval High School.  She obtained a radiologist technologist degree and spent 40 years working as an X-ray tech at various Charleston hospitals.  She went on to serve the residents at Rolling Meadows Assisted Living Facility in Teays Valley.  Linda was a faithful member of Elizabeth Baptist Church for over 50 years.

Linda loved her family and it showed in so many ways.  Her home was always open to others and served as the gathering place for the annual Smith Family Christmas celebration.  She also enjoyed spending time with her kids and spoiling her grandkids.  In recent years, she learned to quilt and created several keepsakes for family members.

Linda leaves behind many family members who will miss her dearly including her husband of 48 years, Kenny Bird; children Angie (Clint) Withrow, Jason (Polly) Bird, and April (Matt) Aldridge; brothers Jimmy (Cathy), David (Judy) Smith, and Tom (Rita) Smith; sister and best friend Katie Facemire; grandchildren Lexi Bird, Isaac, Aaron, and Rachael Withrow; step-grandchildren Dustin and Joshua Stuart. She also leaves behind many friends and a large extended family.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to numerous medical professionals who compassionately cared for Linda (who knew her by her given name, Anna) during her journey.   Specifically, the family thanks Dr. Nadim Bou Zgheib and his caring staff at Edwards Comprehensive Cancer Center (ECCC), the loving nurses in the Infusion Center of ECCC, the dedicated nurses and staff of the 5th Floor Oncology Unit at Cabell Huntington Hospital, and the angels at Hubbard Hospice West. 

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, July 1st at 6:00 at Curry Funeral Home in Alum Creek.  Friends may call 2 hours prior to the service from 4:00 – 6:00 pm.  Burial will follow in Orchard Hills Memorial Gardens in Yawkey. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Elizabeth Baptist Church to support the youth BYF program. The mailing address is 1532 Garretts Bend Road, Sod, WV 25564.

Claude Donald (Don) Pauley, 88, of Sumerco, WV, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 27, 2020 at home.

He retired from Libby Owens Ford Glass Company.

Don loved attending church and playing his mandolin and bass guitar. It was once said that you must play an instrument or sing before you could marry one of his daughters. Don never met a stranger, and he loved telling the same jokes and stories over and over to everyone he met. He loved to sit on his porch on top of Sumerco Mountain and watch the cars go by.

He was preceded in death by his grandson, David (Davey) Pauley and granddaughter, Elizabeth Pauley.

He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Bertie L. McCormick Pauley; sons, David Pauley of Beckley, WV, Keith Pauley of Sissonville, WV; daughters, Brenda (Roger) Satterfield of Nitro, WV, Darlene (Dana) Hoffman of Alum Creek, WV, Annette (Barry) Wheeler of Sumerco, WV and Becky (Eddie) Allen of Galion, OH; 14 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and one on the way, and 2 great great grandchildren. “Papaw Don” wanted to hold every child on his lap, and they didn’t escape without him scaring them with his false teeth.

Special thanks to Pat Perks, McKenzie Pauley, Tonya Justice, Karen Matoy, Pam Dunlap, and special caregiver Shawna Barton for all their help in times of need. The family would also like to thank Kindred at Home, Dignity Hospice & Home Health, and the staff of LCOC.

Graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday July 1 at Grandview Memorial Park, Dunbar with Pastors Dwight McClure and Craig Gillenwater officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a food bank of your choice.

Martha S. Sigmon

Martha S. Sigmon “Susie” 55, of Yawkey, WV went home to be with the Lord on June 24, 2020 at Hubbard Hospice House Charleston, WV.

 She was born July 17, 1964 and was the daughter of the late Richard and Leona Pauley. She was an active member of Pine grove Baptist church. She is survived by her husband, Larry A. Sigmon “Allen”, daughters Kayla Nelson (Howie) of South Charleston and Sarah Fowler (Timmy) of Lick Creek; grandchildren, Isaiah, Nate, Chase and Sophia and Mason; and step children, Chelsea Sigmon ,Blake Sigmon, and Bailey Sigmon and four step grandchildren. siblings Debby Miller of Charleston, Tyrell Miller of Ridgeview, Jarrell Miller of Rock Creek, Joseph Pauley of Richmond, VA, and Dwayne Pauley of Greenview. And a host of nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her daughter Autumn N. Nelson, and sister Venus R. Miller. A private graveside service will be held at Pauley Cemetery, Greenview with time to be announced later. The family would like to give a special thank you to Hubbard Hospice House and everyone for their thoughts and prayers. Arvel “Lee” Estep

Arvel “Lee” Estep, 74, of Ashford, WV, went to be with the Lord Thursday, June 18, 2020 at home.

He retired from the U. S. Postal Service as a mail carrier and also worked as a former coal miner.  Lee loved his church and was a faithful member and Deacon of the Rumble Community Church and was the chief farm hand at Good Shepherd Farm where he loved working.  He was most proud of his grandsons. 

Lee served in the U. S. Army during Vietnam and was awarded a Purple Heart.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Arvel Dallas and Nellie Estep; sisters, Enola Morgan, Maggie Holstein and Linda Pearl Barker.

Lee is survived by his wife of 48 years, Lou; daughter, Rebecca (Chris) Arnold; sister, Kathy Legg; brother Jinkie Estep; grandchildren, Corey and Caleb; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends. 

Service will be 3:00 p.m. Sunday, June 21, at Curry Funeral Home in Alum Creek with Pastor Richard Harold officiating.   Burial will follow at the Estep Family Cemetery, Ashford, with Military Graveside Honors. 

There will be a walk-thru visitation one hour prior to the service. 

Lee’s testimony, which he shared always included 2 things he promised. He said, “I promise I am going to serve Him until the day I die and the best is yet to come.”

Orville Gene Keeling

Orville Gene Keeling, 75 of Sumerco, passed away on Sunday June 14, 2020 at Pikeville Medical Center in Pikeville, KY.

Orville was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil “Crook” and Eliza Keeling; brothers, Charles and William; sisters, Marcella Hahn and Artie McCallister.

His is survived by his wife, Patsy Miller Keeling; sons, Jonathan Keeling and Josh (Sara) Keeling; brother, Junior Keeling; 4 grandchildren Ariel, Lillian, Noah and Savannah.

Graveside service  will be 1:00 PM Friday June 19, 2020 at Miller Family Cemetery, Sumerco with Pastor Jackie Miller officiating.

In lieu of flowers contributions to Curry Funeral Home for funeral services will be greatly appreciated.

Eddie Dean Tyler

Eddie Dean Tyler, 64 of Dunbar passed away on Thursday June 11, 2020 at Thomas Memorial Hospital. 

Eddie was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Lucille Tyler, his brother, Tex Tyler and nephew, Bernard Tyler.

He is survived by his sisters: Cora Wells, Linda Tyler, and Margie (Beaver) Flowers, brother, Richard (Wilma) Tyler; his best friend, Jay Burford and several nieces and nephews.

In keeping with Eddie’s wishes he will be cremated and a celebration of his life will be held at a later date.

Carlotte Gene Thomas

Carlotte Gene Thomas, 89, of Charleston, passed away Wednesday, June 10, 2020, at CAMC-Memorial.  He was preceded in death by his parents, George & Lula Thomas, son, Jack Thomas, daughter, Beverly Seidman, and brothers, Freddie, Lambert, and Jack Thomas.

He is survived by his wife, Sandra Thomas, daughter, Carla (Gary) Settles, Lexington, KY, son, William (Penny) Thomas, Frame, WV, 10 grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, sister, Nancy (David) Barnette, and also survived by many nieces, nephews and family. 

Carlotte was a retired member of Painters Union Local #970.  He loved spending time outside fishing, camping and was very proud of his lawn and landscaping. 

A memorial service will be 6:00pm Monday, June 15, 2020, at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Pastor Gene Pauley officiating.

Yvonne Jo Lacy

Yvonne Jo Lacy, 74, of Sumerco, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 2, 2020, at CAMC.  She is preceded in death by her husband, Harold Lacy, Sr., brothers, William “Buster”, Garrett and Bethel Adkins, and sister, Kay Allen.

She was a member of Alum Creek Independent Missionary Baptist Church.

Yvonne is survived by her children, Rachel (Kenneth) Priestley, Harold (Natalie) Lacy, Jr., William (Cathy) Lacy and Laura (Darren) Litton, grandchildren, Austin Lacy, Karah Lacy, Brianna Priestley, Brooke Lacy, Bradley Lacy, Heather Lacy, Jacob Priestley, Corey Smith, Ashton Newton, Roger Workman and Tia Litton.  She is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Abigail, Rowyn, Grayson and Madison, and sisters, Geraldine “Sissy” Smith, and Drema (Tony) Williams and brother, Brian Adkins.

Family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:00pm on Sunday, June 7, 2020, at Curry Funeral Home, followed by a private service with Pastor Tony Williams officiating.  Burial will follow at Orchard Hills Memory Gardens, Yawkey, WV. 

Ann Linville

Ann Conway Linville, 84, of Dunbar, WV, passed away on June 2, 2020 surrounded by her family.

Ann was born in Ashland, KY on May 17, 1936. She was married to Maxwell Linville on June 21, 1956; they were married just over 46 years.

Ann is preceded in death by husband Maxwell Linville; granddaughter Brittney Christian and many family members.

Ann was a proud volunteer for the American Red Cross for a number of years in the disaster relief program throughout the Continental US and US Territories.  She was a member of Left Fork Baptist Church and the Community Center of Morrisvale.

Ann is survived by her brother Ron Conway; sister Eloise Conway; children Cheryl Cummings (Matthew), Joseph Linville (Monica), Lauren Linville, Kevin Linville (Ronda); grandchildren Rachel Alles (Douglas), Christopher Linville, Adam Cummings, Bradley Linville, Brian Linville (Morgan), Andrew Graley (Morgan), Joshua Linville, Samuel Foster; great-grandchildren Marcus Linville, Maya Cummings, Madeline Alles, Lahasia Good, Maxwell Alles, Miles Linville, Max Linville; great-great-grandson Karson Linville and other family and friends.

A graveside service with viewing will be held 12:00 PM Friday, June 5, 2020 at Orchard Hills Memory Gardens, Yawkey with Pastor Darrell Searls of Yawkey Baptist Church officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the American Red Cross.
