Margaret Wade Vickers, 81, of Alkol, WV, went home to be with the Lord Saturday, October 23, 2021, at home surrounded by family and friends.

Margaret was a member of Sycamore Grove Missionary Baptist Church, and was a retired customer service representative from AEP.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenny and her son James; parents, Maynard and Emmer McCallister Wade.

She is survived by her children; Jeffrey (Debbie) Vickers and Monica (Joey) Linville; grandchildren, Clint Good, Andrew (Morgan) Graley, Austen (Danielle) Vickers, Riley, Jamie and Erica Vickers; great grandchildren, Lilly Good, Fallon and Jett Graley.  She is also survived by two sisters, Mary Ellen (Don) Miles and Paula Higginbotham and brother, Keith (Karen) Wade. 

The family would also like to give a special “thank you” to caregivers, Kenny and Betty Loftis and Melissa Sigmon.

Service will be 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 26, 2021, at Curry Funeral Home in Alum Creek with Pastor Darrell Searls officiating.  Burial will follow at Stone Cemetery in Alkol.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Jacqueline Fay Means

Jacqueline Fay Mills Means, age 72, departed peacefully for Heaven on Saturday, October 23, 2021, after a long illness. Jackie was a graduate of the Charleston School of Beauty Cosmetology Program and a Sunday School Teacher for the Pine Top Church of God in Charleston, West Virginia.

Reunited with Jackie in Heaven are her beloved daughter, Michele Dawn Means; parents Juanita Thomas Harper and Brice Mills; brother and sister, Mitt Franklin Tye and Juanita Evelyn Spears; father-in-law James Madison Means; great-niece Caitlin Means; and brother-in-law Harold Walker.

Jackie is survived by: Clayton Means, her husband of 53 years; son Christopher Means (wife Rachel); Grandsons Tyler, Kody, and Alex Means; Mother-in-Law “Mom” Jenetta Opal Means; Sister Polly Christine Crews (husband Charles) and her children: David Riggs (wife Erica and son David A.W.), Billy Riggs (wife Tasha and son Bryson), Christy Penderman (husband Kenneth, daughter Deja Hi’Ilandi and son Jayden), and her niece Tia Shelton; brother-in-law Kim Means (wife Cynthia); brother-in-law James Means (wife Barbara); sisters-in-law Patricia Walker and Tina Russell (husband William); niece Angela Means (husband Mark Hicks and son Zachary Hicks); niece Chanon Richardson (daughter Emma Richardson), nephew Phillip Means (sons Brandon and Colton and daughter Darienne Means); niece Melissa Means (sons Mikel and Dillon Means and daughter Brianna Starcher), nephew William D. Russell (wife Meghan and daughters Ella and Lyla Russell); Aunts: Pearl Moles, Edna Mace, Rose Madden, Doris Ramsburg, and Claudia Sammataro; dear friend Kim Kidd.

Jackie was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend who gave selflessly of her time. She treasured her family and enjoyed gathering together over a holiday meal, relaxing on the beach, teaching Sunday School, spending time with her dog, Ginger, and playing the autoharp and guitar. Jackie had a kind heart, a good sense of humor, and a laugh that would make you smile. A blessing to everyone who knew and loved her, she will be deeply missed.

A funeral service is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 26, 2021, at Curry Funeral Home in Alum Creek, WV, with a burial to follow at Orchard Hills Memory Gardens in Yawkey. Pastor William Buddy Mairs will officiate. Friends will be received one hour prior to the service.

Helen Rose Pauley Moore

Helen Rose Pauley Moore, 100, of Ocala, Florida, formerly of Sumerco, went home to be with the Lord, Thursday, October 21, 2021, at Hampton Manor Assisted Living in Ocala, FL.

Helen was born March 18, 1921 in Lincoln County and was raised on Laurel Fork. She worked during World War II at the Armory in South Charleston and then was a homemaker for her husband and three children. She was a blessed child of Christ and a longtime member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. She was loved by many and will be very missed.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, Otto H. Pauley, Sr. & Essie McClure Pauley; husband, Clinton H. Moore; son, Jerry A. Moore; sisters, Dona Phillips, Athelene Tackett, Emma White; and brothers, Otto Pauley, Jr., Arthur Pauley, Odie Pauley, and William Pauley.

She is survived by daughter, Linda S. Schoffler; son, Herbert C. Moore; grandchildren, Clinton A. Moore and Melanie A. Svercek; great grandchildren, Brooke Svercek and Grace Svercek; and sister, Virginia Lewis.

Graveside service will be at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 26, 2021, at Graceland Memorial Park, South Charleston, WV.

Joseph Anthony Honaker

Joseph Anthony Honaker, 64, of Charleston, formerly of Bluefield, passed away October 17, 2021, at CAMC Memorial Hospital. Per Joseph’s wishes, he will be cremated. Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek is assisting the family with arrangements. 

Penelope “Penny” Marie Saul, 61 of Sumerco, WV, born November 11, 1959, gained her wings Friday, October 15, 2021. She was the 1st born to Orville (Buster) & Norma Roberts.

Penny is survived by her husband of 43 years, Rick Saul, two sons, Derrick (Miranda) and Jarrod (Emily). She is also survived by two grandchildren, Zane and Zaley, brother Alan (Sherry) Roberts, sisters, Patty (Randy) Coy, and Angie (Jason), six nieces and nephews, and three great-nieces and nephews.

Graveside service and burial will be 1:00pm, Thursday, October 21, 2021, at Donel C. Kinnard State Veterans Cemetery, 130 Academy Drive, Dunbar, WV, with Pastor Richard McCallister officiating.

Eugene Garnett Pauley

Eugene Garnett Pauley, 83, of Alum Creek, WV passed away Wednesday, October 13, 2021, at home.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Garnett & Aline Pauley, brothers, Hansel and Charles Pauley, sisters, Macel Rhodes and Mildred Pauley, and his brother-in-law Dave Reed whom Gene was very close too.

He attended Van High School.

He is survived by sisters, Paulette Reed and Kathy Gillenwater. Eugene was affectionally known as Uncle Bub to his nephew who was like a son, Jason (Melissa) Hines and his great-nephew Kaleb (Danielle) Hines.
He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Carolyn and a host of other nieces and nephews and friends who will greatly miss him.

Graveside service will be 2:00pm Sunday, October 17, 2021, at Anderson Cemetery, Sumerco, WV.

Joyce Ann Myers

Joyce Ann Myers, 70, of St. Albans, WV, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, October 13, 2021, at CAMC – Memorial, Charleston.

She is preceded in death by her parents Harold & Ellen Sanford, siblings, Harold, Walter, Helen, Jeanie, and Mike.

Joyce was a member of Higher Ground Christian Fellowship, St. Albans where she served with the Ladies Ministries.

She is survived by four children, Billy Osborne, Richard (Nicole) Roberts, Scott (Andrea) Roberts, and Angie (Will) Roberts, sisters, Betty Roberts and Ellen Miller, and brother Eugene Sanford. She is also survived by her 10 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, and one more on the way. And many other family and friends who will miss her greatly.

There will be a Celebration of Life at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 30, 2021 at Higher Ground Christian Fellowship, 702 Hansford Street, St. Albans, WV 25177 with Pastor David Bragg officiating.

Steven Craig Midkiff

Steven Craig Midkiff, 67, of Alum Creek, WV passed away on October 12, 2021. He was born October 9, 1954, to Paul Jack and Martha (Patsy) Midkiff. His father preceded him in death.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his daughters, Jennifer Hatfield and Kristen (Matt) Kincaid; grandchildren, Atticus, Leyla, and Ellie Hatfield, Owen and Ben Kincaid; brother, David Eric (Yolanda) Midkiff; aunts Marian Crowe, Yvonne DeBord, Jewel Asbury, and Mary Hager; uncle, Dennie Bell; and many special cousins.

Steve graduated from South Charleston High School in 1972. He retired from Clearon in 2009 after 35 years of service. He enjoyed riding his Harley and the many friendships he formed through that.

It was Steve’s wish that he be cremated. A memorial service will be Monday, October 18, 2021, at 1:00pm with Greg Meikles officiating at Graceland Memorial Park Mausoleum, South Charleston, WV.

Glen Dwain (Hippy) Adkins

Glen Dwain (Hippy) Adkins, 79, of Alkol, passed away Friday, October 8, 2021, at CAMC Memorial Hospital.

He was preceded in death by his father, Asa Glenn Adkins; his mother, Mildred Kathleen Adkins; and brother, Bob Adkins.

Glen is survived by his sister, Kay Adkins-Graley of Sumerco; children, Rod Adkins of Yawkey, Anthony Adkins of Cross Lanes, Kenneth Adkins of Peytona, Jonathon Adkins of Cross Lanes, Glenda Adkins of Tucson, AZ; puppy Ginger; six grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.

Glen (Hippy) was a longtime member of the Brothers of the Wheel Motorcycle Club Family. He was also a former member of the Lost Souls Motorcycle Club, and Mountaineer Motorcycle Club. Glen was respected and loved by many friends and neighbors. Glen (Hippy) was truly one of a kind. He was an honest, loving, hard working man who took pride in everything that he did.

He retired from Hobet Mining Company where he was an excellent dozer and grader operator and could run any piece of heavy equipment. He also drove tractor trailer for Chemical Leiman Tanklines and A.J. Wiggins. He was a certified welder and worked on motorcycles and cars all his life. He loved riding his motorcycles and felt at home with his motorcycle family. He will be deeply missed by all.

Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m., Friday, October 15, 2021, at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, with Dwayne Thompson officiating. Burial will follow at Bear Branch Cemetery, Spurlocksville. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Mary Carrier

Mary Jospehine Brown, 81, of South Charleston, went home to be with the Lord Monday, October 11, 2021, at home.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Charles Pauley and Larry Carrier; parents, Dennis & Sylvia Brown; stepdad, Don Webb; brother, Herky Brown; and son-in-law, Bob Boesch.

Mary was a beloved grandmother and a Godly mother who gave her heart to the Lord when she was very young at a tent revival in the Ruth community.

She is survived by her two children, Chuck (Sandra) Pauley & Judith Lynn; grandchildren, Chad & Hannah; great grandchildren, Curtis, Abigail, Angel, Maggie Jo, Chandler, Abby, & Madison; and brother, Bobby (Juanita) Brown; several nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.

Service will be 2:00 p.m., Thursday, October 14, 2021, at Ruth Community Church with Pastor Gene Pauley officiating. Burial will follow at Graceland Cemetery, South Charleston. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
