Steve Edward Means

Steve Edward Means, 50, of St. Albans passed away October 17, 2020.

Steve was a 1990 graduate of St. Albans High School. He was the owner of Absolut Roofing and a former car salesman for C & O Motors and Joe Holland.

He was preceded in death by his father, Jerry Means.

Steve is survived by his mother Georgia Jarvis, of South Charleston; daughters, Morgan Means, of St. Albans and September Means, of Charleston; sister Tina Mitchell, of St. Albans; and nieces, Ashley and Whitney Mitchell, both of Las Vegas, Nevada.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 31, 2020 at 2:00pm at Living Word Christian Center, 1418 Kanawha Blvd. East Charleston, WV 25301. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, South Charleston.

Steve was a hard worker and a dedicated father. He loved both his daughters with all of his heart. He is going to be deeply missed by friends, family, and his community.

Flowers may be sent to Living Word Christian Center.

Mary Frances Harrison

Mary Frances Harrison, 79, of Olcott, WV went home to be with The Lord Thursday, October 22, 2020 at CAMC General.

Mary was a homemaker and caregiver. She worked at Olcott Elementary and served on the board of the Cerebral Palsy Counsel. She was saved at Olcott Community Church and later served as treasurer.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Helen Brown Stone; husband, Sandman Harrison; and son, Stanley “Ervie” Harrison, Jr.

She is survived by her companion of 36 years, Kevin Holstein and several other family members and friends.

A graveside service and burial will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday, October 26, 2020 at Graceland Memorial Park, South Charleston with Pastor Gene Pauley officiating.

Paul Richard Ferguson

Paul Richard Ferguson, 49, of Alum Creek, WV passed away Sunday, October 18, 2020.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Wayne and Lorine Akers Ferguson; and sister, Loretta Watts.

Paul is survived by his brother Bill Ferguson; and sister, Barbara Dingess.

A private graveside will be held and Paul will be buried beside his mother at Robertson Cemetery in Fort Gay, WV.

Connie Faye Brogan

Connie Faye Brogan, 63, of South Charleston, WV, went to be with the Lord on Friday, October 16, 2020 at home. 

She was a lifetime companion, loving wife and friend to her husband, Tim, of 46 years.  A wonderful mother to her son, Shawn Brogan and daughter, Rachel Keeling.  She is also survived by her grandchildren, Izaiah, Ariel and Lilly, brothers, Delbert (Neicie) Lude and Joe (Donna) Lude,  and sister, Jeanie (Rocky) Hudnall.

She was a former employee at CAMC for 18 years.  Connie was raised in the Davis Creek Church of Nazarene and has always loved singing gospel music with family and friends.   

It was her wishes to be cremated.  A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. 

Connie will be greatly missed.

James “Marvin” White

James “Marvin” White, 69, of Bim, WV, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 18, 2020, at Cabell Huntington Hospital. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Frankie White, brother, Jerry White and grandson, Tyler Trammell.

Marvin worked in the coal mines for 25 years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He is survived by his wife, Corine, son, Billy Ray White, step-son, Daniel, step-daughters, Kimberly and Ann, grandsons, Justin (Amanda) and Zach (Elizabeth), great-grandchildren, Zoey, Jaycee, Kynnedie, and Laikynn and step-granddaughter, Allison (Zach) Hensley

Graveside service will be 2:00pm Wednesday, October 21, 2020 with Rev. Chip Frame officiating at Danville Memorial Park, Danville, WV.

Walter Marie “Walt” “Pud” Cook, Jr., 76, of Alkol, passed away Friday, October 16, 2020 at his home.

Walt was a retired security guard for U.S. Security with over 20 years of service.

He was preceded in death by his parents Walter and Agnes Means Cook; and sister, Katherine Kay Cook.

Walt is survived by his wife of 39 years, Becky Sue Cook; daughter Jennifer Cook; sons, James Cook and Joe (Valerie) Cook; grandchildren, Rusty Anderson, Brandon and Tony Cook; brothers, Randy and Don Cook; and sister, Loretta (Jack) Stonehill.

In keeping with Walter’s wishes, he will be cremated, and there will be no service.

Lora Lee “Cindy” Cook

Lora Lee “Cindy” Cook, 63, of Sod left this world Thursday, October 15, 2020 after losing a battle against cancer.

Cindy was preceded in death by brothers, David, Fred, and Clarence Smith; and sister, Nettie Smith.

She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Randy Cook; daughter Peggy (Stevie) Cook; son, Bryan (Sarah) Cook; grandson, Jayden Cook; granddaughter Macie Walls; brother, Kenny Smith; and sister, Kathy Smith.

In keeping with Cindy’s wishes, she will be cremated, and a memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.

Tommy Lee Asbury

Tommy Lee Asbury, 91, of Alkol went to be with The Lord Thursday, October 15, 2020 at Genesis Valley Center South Charleston, WV.

Tommy was a machinist at John Amos Power Plant. He attended Summit Community Church. He was member of Alum Creek VFW Post 4768 and served his country in the United States Army post World War II in Europe.

Tommy was preceded in death by his parents, Mont and Annie Asbury; brothers, Bill, Jimmy, and Eugene.

He is survived by step-daughter, LaDonna (Ed) Mason; step-son, Michael (Suzie) Price; step-grandchildren Sean and Katie; and step-great granddaughter Roselyn.

Service will be held 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 21, 2020 with Military Honors at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Pastor Dwight McClure officiating. A private burial will follow at Pineview Cemetery, Orgas, WV.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Leo D. Howerton

Leo D. Howerton, 85, of Sanford, NC went home to be with The Lord Tuesday, October 13, 2020 at Pinelake Nursing Facility.

Leo retired from Century Aluminum with 36 years of employment. He was a minister for 56 years with the Freewill Baptist & WV Gospel Tabernacle Associations. Leo served his country as a member of the United States Army for 3 years.

Leo is survived by his wife of 63 years, Eula Howerton; children, Clint, Kent, and Linda; grandchildren, Robert, Brittany, Terry, Frankie, and Kristen; great grandchild Braylen; brothers, Bill, Ray, Jimmy, Paul, and Troy; sister, Betty.

Graveside service will be 12:00 noon on Saturday, October 17, 2020 at Graceland Memorial Park, South Charleston, WV.

Jerry Franklin Hager

Jerry Franklin Hager, 81, of Alkol went to be with The Lord Monday, October 12, 2020 at home. 

Jerry was a sheet metal worker and retired from Tri-State Roofing.  He served his country as a member of the West Virginia Army National Guard.   He was a member of Griffithsville Masonic Lodge #71 and a 32-degree member of the Scottish Rite Bodies Charleston, WV.  Jerry was also a member of Sycamore Grove Baptist Church, Alkol.

He was preceded in death by his father, Frank Hager; mother and stepfather, Carmen and Catherine Breedlove; and son, Jerry “Allen” Hager.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Anita Hager; sons Tucker Hager, Roger(Amanda) Hager; daughter, Kathy(Keith) Pauley; grandchildren, A.J. Coon, Lona Coon(L.J. Breedlove), Cody Hager, Kayla Hager, Jonah Hager, Ruby Hager; and great grandchild, Greyson Allen Breedlove.

In keeping with Jerry’s wishes, he will be cremated and laid to rest next to his son at the family cemetery.

The family would like to extend special thanks to Kenny Loftis and Fred Thompson.
