Karlene Faye Adkins, 55, of Sod, died Sunday, May 20, 2007 at home after a short illness.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Zuke and Edna Abshire; grandson, Christopher Rhodes; two brothers, Neil and Owen Abshire.  She was a homemaker and a member of McCorkle Free Will Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband: James C.; Daughter: Cheryl Clark of Sod; Son: James O. Adkins of Sod; 3 grandsons: Derek Adkins, Travis Clark and Zackery Adkins and 4 sisters: Elizabeth Adams of Alabama, Rosemary McCallister of Sod, Debra Sue Maurer of Seville, Ohio and Helen Sandlin of South Charleston.

Services will be 11:00 AM on Wednesday, May 23, 2007 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, with Pastor Roe Smith officiating. Burial will be held in Graceland Memorial Park, South Charleston. Friends may call on Tuesday from 6 to 8 PM at the funeral home.

Arlene “Price” Loftis, 77, of Sod, went home to be with the Lord, Tuesday, May 15, 2007 at CAMC General Division after a short illness.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ted Loftis; daughter, Carolyn Maynard; step-daughter, Ellen Childress; parents, Ralph and Ocie Gillenwater; brother, Maynard Gillenwater and sister, Diana Flowers.

She attended Elizabeth Baptist Church, Garretts Bend.

She is survived by her son, David Lucas of Sod; four step-daughters, Carol Turley of St. Albans, Pat Turley, Janice Goeglein and Kay Pahl all of Milton; step-sons, Teddy Loftis of Linn; Roger Loftis of St. Albans; sisters, Georgia “Delaphine” Sardelis of Bradenton, Florida; Joyce Dunlap of Garretts Bend; Marsha Fennimore of South Charleston; brothers, Ronnie Gillenwater of Cottageville; Glen Gillenwater of Walton; 17 grandchildren and many great grandchildren.

Services will be at 11:00 AM on Friday, May 18, 2007 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, with Rev. Craig Gillenwater and Pastor Jackie Miller officiating. Burial will be held in Fairview Memorial Park, Hamlin. Friends may call on Thursday from 7 to 9 PM at the funeral home.

Betty Jane Griffith Riling, 83, of St. Albans, lost a courageous battle with reoccurring breast cancer on May 15, 2007.

She entered this world on July 27, 1923 and was the eldest of ten born to James Kenneth “JK” Griffith and Breman Wood Griffith of Alum Creek. Betty graduated from Washington District High School where she won the Balfour Award for outstanding student. She then attended Morris Harvey College until she met and married her aunt’s milkman, “Bob” Robert L. Riling of G.C. Riling Dairy of South Charleston.

Betty was a talented individual who was an expert seamstress, musician, baker, and artist. She loved music and played the organ, piano, violin, accordion, mandolin, and dulcimer. She also sang in the choir and played the organ at Elizabeth Memorial Methodist Church, Charleston. Betty was a popular local artist that painted in acrylics, oils and watercolors. She participated in the Dogwood, Rhododendron, and Sorghum Festivals, along with the Loins Club Art and Craft Shows and was a member of the WV Watercolor Association. She was best known for painting on rocks.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Susan Maria Riling; sister, Faye; brother, Douglas; nephew, Jimmy and niece, Cindy.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 63 ½ years, Bob of South Charleston; son, Richard and (Carol) Riling of South Charleston; daughter, Katrina Riling of Charleston; two grandchildren, Wendy Riling Martin and Eric Riling; one great grandson, Jackson Martin; five sisters, Jewell Haddad of Charleston, Phyllis “Peg” Griffith of Alum Creek, Patty Dimock of Venice, Florida, Jeanette Rieck of Newtown Square, Pennsylvania and Carley Jo Means of Severna Park, Maryland; two brothers, Kenny Griffith of Hammond, Louisiana and Jack Griffith of Denton, Texas.

Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, May 18, 2007 at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek, with Rev. Charles “Chuck” Goddard and David Mullins officiating. Burial will be held in Graceland Memorial Park, South Charleston. Friends may call on Thursday from 6-8 PM at the funeral home.

Henry Antill

Henry Antill, 83, of Cameo was called home by the Lord on Sunday May 13, 2007 at Boone Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Madison.

He was a retired coal miner, a member of the UMWA, an active member of the NRA, a sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II, and a member of Maple Hill Missionary Baptist Church.

Henry loved the outdoors and the small, simple things in life. He especially enjoyed his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara “Boots” Antill; four children, Scotty of Charleston, Becky and son-in-law, Bob Brooder, of Rhode Island; Andy and daughter-in-law, Robin, and Todd and daughter-in-law, Amanda, all of Cameo; five step-grandchildren: Jason, Scott, Stephen, Brandon & Chelsea; two great-grandchildren: Elija and Ethan; and three step-great-grandchildren: Alexis, Arron and Zoie.

Services will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, May 16, 2007 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Pastors David Bowman and Henry Estep officiating. Burial will be held in the Antill family cemetery, Cameo.

Sean Edward Sebastian, 37, of Tango, passed away Saturday, May 12, 2007 at home after a short illness.

Averial “Donnie” Midkiff, 67, of Griffithsville, formerly of Alum Creek, went home to be with the Lord, Friday, May 11, 2007 at home after a long illness.

Donnie was born on May 13, 1939, was retired from Lacy”s Market and worked part-time for Enterprise. He was a member of Eden Baptist Church, Griffithsville.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dalton and Thelma Midkiff, first wife Glenna Midkiff, daughter Donna Dorsey, grandson Matthew Presley, brother Marvin Midkiff and nephew Johnny Midkiff.

He is survived by his wife, Drema Midkiff of Griffithsville, children and their spouses: Pam and Roger Dorsey of So. Charleston, Doug Midkiff of Barboursville, Lisa Dustin of Nitro, son-in-law, Bobby Dorsey of So. Charleston and step-daughters, Deanna Cooper and Danielle and P. J. Livingston of Griffithsville. Sisters: Joy Cook of Alum Creek, Mony Lawton of Monroe, LA., Nyleen and Paul Eversole of Duncan, OK and sister-in-law Jean Midkiff of Conover, NC. Brother in heart, Steve Pauley of Teays Valley.

Grandchildren: Michelle Dorsey, Jessica Case, Megan Dustin, Ashley Martin and step-grand-daughter Abbigail Cooper. Great-grandchildren: Chase Dorsey, Caitlin Doak, Caleb Case, Carson Case and Ashlyn Martin. Nephews: Tony Midkiff and Brian Lawton who were very special to him, Tim Midkiff and Jason Midkiff. Nieces: Jill Harless, Melissa Kinnaman, , Julie Sickmiller and Amber Eversole.

Services will be held 2:00 PM Monday, May 14, at Curry Funeral Home Alum Creek with Rev. Rexel Cooper, Rev. Gene Sowards and Rev. Paul Eversole officiating. Burial will be at the Turley-Midkiff Cemetery at Alum Creek. Friends may call from 6 to 8 PM Sunday at the funeral home.

The family wishes to extend special thanks to his physician, Dr.Syam Stoll and nurse, Sarah from the Lincoln Primary Care Center. We so much appreciate his Hospice nurses, Brenda Bassett, Kim Ross, Kelly Barrett, Heidi Williamson, Rheanna and Christy for their dedicated care and concern.

William ” Bill” Breedlove, 52, of Yawkey passed away Tuesday, May 8, 2007 at home

He is survived by wife Helen Breedlove, stepsons Chad and Justin Brown, step daughter Christy Berry, mother Anna Mae Breedlove, 5 brothers, Merdith Jr., Charles, Kevin, Richard and Robert , sister Pamela Hughes.

Services will be 3:00 p.m. Saturday, May 12, at the Curry Funeral Home Chapel, 2097 Childress Road Alum Creek, with Pastor Oshel Bell officiating. Burial will be held at a later date at Orchard Hill Memory Gardens at Yawkey. Friends may call one hour prior to service at the funeral home

William ” Bill” Breedlove, 52 of Yawkey passed away Tuesday, May 8, 2007 at home

He is survived by wife Helen Breedlove, stepsons Chad and Justin Brown, step daughter Christy Berry, mother Anna Mae Breedlove, 5 brothers, Merdith Jr., Charles, Kevin, Richard and Robert , sister Pamela Hughes.

Larry Shelton Henson

Larry Shelton Henson, 62, of Hurricane, went home to be with God on May 1, 2007.  He was born November 8, 1944 to the late Clifford Roosevelt and Harriete Lorraine Good Henson. He was a self employed carpenter who loved wood working and was a graduate of St. Albans High School.

He is survived by his daughters; Patty Hamilton of Charleston, Sherry Ledford of Monroe, Ohio, Amber Henson of Charleston and son; Cliff Henson of St. Albans. Brothers; Dr. Samuel Henson and Jerry Henson of West Virginia, Sisters; Catherine Freeman of Virginia and Jacquelyn Barker of Ohio and Grandchildren; Jonathon Hamilton, Jeremy Hamilton, Ashley Ledford, Emilee Ledford and Heidi Ledford.  Left behind a special friend, Larry Garrett of Hurricane.  Memorial service will be 8:00 PM Thursday, May 3, at Curry Funeral Home 2097 Childress Road Alum Creek with Rev. Robert S. Leadman officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 7 to 8 PM at the funeral home.
