Elmer Woods

September 25th, 2023 | Posted by curryfuneralhome in Obituaries - (4 Comments)

Elmer Woods (78), of Alum Creek, joined his love, when he passed away peacefully on Friday, September 22nd, 2023.

Born February 4th, 1945 to Geraldine and Clyde Dolin, Elmer lived his rambunctious young life in in Alum Creek, WV with several close family and friends nearby. Elmer never met his biological father, Lloyd Woods, as he was killed before Elmer’s birth while serving our country.

Elmer met the love of his life, Pam Holstein and they spent their entire lives in Alum Creek. They have 2 children, Pat Woods (Crystal Welch) and Dawn Hong (Thomas Hong) along with their grandchildren, Joey Woods, Matthew Hong, Zoe Hong, Jordan Woods, Eric Woods, Talim Welch, Mathew Welch, and Anna Welch.

Elmer was strong willed and stubborn at times, but he also had an enormous heart and wonderful sense of humor. He was generous, loyal, and brave. He was clever and full to the brim with knowledge gained through all of his life experiences: welder, volunteer firefighter, hunter, gunsmith- he could fix or build anything. Elmer completed 2 yrs of college and worked most of his life as a welder for Union Carbide. When his position was eliminated, Elmer graduated from Piedmont Community College in North Carolina and became a gunsmith. He launched Woods Custom Gunsmithing after graduating. This was work that he loved most and had a lifelong passion for.

Elmer, welcomed into heaven by his loving wife, Pam, his grandson, Eric and his parents, will be remembered for all the heart he shared with his friends and family. He truly loved each of them- and if you knew him, you knew it. He will be missed dearly.

In Elmer fashion, there are no services planned, certainly no pomp and circumstance. A celebration of life will occur with details to be determined.

Elmer’s celebration of life will be November 4, 2023 at11:30am at Fork of Coal Missionary Baptist Church.
