Elizabeth Ann McDonough Rabel, 82, of Losantville, IN passed away Friday, January 26, 2024, at home.

Elizabeth was born November 7, 1941, in Charleston, WV to the late John & Carmen Bossie McDonough. She was a proud graduate of West Virginia Wesleyan College, furthering her education at Morris Harvey and West Virginia University. She enjoyed being a schoolteacher and taught many levels of education from Charleston, WV to Pocahontas County, WV. She retired to be with her grandchildren and later great grandchildren.

Elizabeth is survived by her husband of 62 years, Daniel M. Rabel; children, Tracy (Tina) Rabel of Losantville, IN, Troy Rabel of Arbovale, WV, and Tianna (Vance) Jarrell of Sharpsburg, GA; grandchildren, Taylor (Aaron) Bruner, Tylor Rabel, Caleb Mullinax, Brandon (Brooke) Nottingham, Annissa Jarell (fiancé Cody); great grandchildren, Maya, Theodore, Thatcher, and Oaklynn.

Per her wishes, there will be no public services.

Lenda Mae Estep

Lenda Mae Estep, 83 of Alum Creek passed away on Friday, January 26, 2024, at Marmet Center after a long illness.

Lenda retired from Dow Chemical with over 25 years of service.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Milton and Martha Justice Cook, son, Danny Lee McCoy, daughter, Martha Jean McCoy, brothers, Lee Cook, Bruce Allen Cook, and Lanty Cook; sisters, Laurie Loftis, Maxine Workman, and Lena Bright.

She is survived by her daughters, Patricia Estep, and Mary Francis Renick, son, Ricky Lynn McCoy; 5 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren; brothers, Lester and Leon Cook and her sister, Lou Green.

Graveside service for Lenda Mae Estep will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, January 30, 2024, at Brounland Cemetery, Alum Creek.

Terry Wayne Clark

Terry Wayne Clark, 69, of Alkol passed away Tuesday, January 23, 2024, at Boone Memorial Hospital.

Terry was a 1972 graduate of Duval High School. He worked in maintenance and as an electrician for the City of Danville.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Johnny and Anna Hager Clark; brother, David Scott Clark; sister, Cathy S. Walls.

Terry is survived by his children, Beth (Bruce) Meadows, Jessica (Russell) Jones, John (Nikki) Clark, Samantha (Dereck) Weiford, and Sara (Jacob) Johnson; sister, Janet (Danny) Collins; grandchildren, Alyssa Meadows, Hayleigh & Landon Clark, Piper Clark, Ember & Jacob Johnson, Jr., and Edith Weiford.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

Marjorie Evelyn Johnson

Marjorie Evelyn Johnson, 91, of Danville went to be with the Lord Wednesday, January 24, 2024, at Boone Memorial Hospital.

Marjorie was a former member of the Church of Christ in Nellis and was currently a member of the Church of Christ in Danville.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur James Johnson; parents, Leonard and Stella Smith Holstein; brother, Lloyd Holstein; sisters, Irene Johnson, Marie Grass, Opal Cummings and Bernice Headley; grandchildren, Shannon and Angie.

Marjorie is survived by her children; Carol Barker, Danny (Debbie) Johnson, Patricia Johnson, Linda Johnson, and Deborah (J.D.) Fairchild; 11 grandchildren and many great grandchildren.

Visitation will be 6-8pm, Friday, January 26, 2024, at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek. Funeral service will be 11:00 am, Saturday, January 27, 2024, at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery, McCorkle.

Trilba Faye Hill

Trilba Faye Hill, 96, of Sod went home to be with the Lord, Thursday, January 18, 2024, at Hubbard Hospice House, Charleston.

Trilba was a member of Alum Creek Church of Christ since 1945 and a 1946 graduate of Duval High School. She helped with 4-H in Lincoln County Schools and served on the Library Board. She was Alum Creek Lions Club Citizen of the Year two times. Trilba loved painting, bird watching, trout fishing, and camping at the Williams River. She touched so many lives and will be missed by many.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Rex R. Hill; parents, Wilburn and Alberta Quigley Priestley; daughters, Alta Madden and Bonnie Pauley; sisters, Jean Woodrum Johnson and Janet Dent; brother, Forest Priestley.

Trilba is survived by son, Rex R. “Randy” Hill, II; daughter, Kim Quintrell; brother, Chap Priestley. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, 4 great great grandchildren, and her cat companion, Bubby.

Visitation will be 6-8 pm, Thursday, January 25, 2024, at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek. Funeral service will be 1:00 pm, Friday, January 26, 2024, at the funeral home, with Minister Joseph Watts and Scott Pauley officiating. Burial will follow at Graceland Memorial Park, South Charleston.

The family wants to extend special thanks to Trilba’s caregivers who made it possible for her to stay at home as long as she did; Joyce Hager, Kathy Goff, Amy Walker with Lincoln County Opportunity Company (LCOC), and Sandy Breedlove, who was a true angel for mom and all of the family.

Dora Elizabeth Mynes

Dora Elizabeth Mynes, formerly of Charleston, WV, went home to be with the Lord, January 11, 2024, in Columbia, TN.

She is survived by her daughter Elizabeth (Gordon) Ingold of Columbia, TN; grandchildren, Nick, Jack and Catherine Ingold; sister, Joyce (Arthur) Chaney, many nieces and nephews.

Dora was predeceased by her husband, Charles L. Mynes.

There will be a private family service, with final interment at Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans, WV.

Mary Lou Smith

Mary Lou Smith, 89, of Dunbar passed away Thursday, January 11, 2024, at home surrounded by her family.

Mary attended Mt. Zion Church where she sang in the choir.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John W. Smith; parents, Leroy and Ona Williams Shultz; daughter, Patricia Holstein; sisters, Daisy, Barbara, Eloise, and Shirley.

Mary is survived by her sons, Tommy, Terry, and Ronnie; brother, Guy Shultz; sister, Diane Taylor; 7 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Service will be 2:00 pm, Sunday, January 14, 2024, at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, with Pastor Mark Thaxton officiating. Burial will follow at Smith Cemetery, South Charleston. Family and friends will gather one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Karen Melinda Smith

Karen Melinda Smith, 51, entered her heavenly home on January 8, 2024, after a long illness.

Karen was preceded in death by her dad, William W. Smith.

Karen was loved by everyone who knew her. She was compassionate and loving and always had a hug for others. She was a blessing to her family and all who knew her. Karen was an avid Mountaineer fan and enjoyed watching their games. Karen will be deeply missed and always in our hearts.

Karen is survived by her mother and caregiver, Delores Smith; brother, Billy Wray (Michelle) Smith; sister, Cheryl (Clint) Elswick; nephew, Caleb (Brittany) Elswick; nieces, Courtney (Justin) Bailey, Cara and Cami Elswick; great nephews and nieces, Declan and Leighton Bailey and Lilly and Jacob Eslwick, all of South Charleston.

The family would like to thank Drs. Loren and Scott Smith, her family doctors; Dr. M. Kayi, pulmonologist; Pulmonary Associates; and doctors and nurses at Thomas Hospital who all provided excellent care for Karen over the years.

Funeral service will be 12:00 pm, Thursday, January 11, 2024, at Curry Funeral Home with Pastor Matt Decker officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service from 11:00 to 12:00. Entombment will follow at Graceland Memorial Park, South Charleston.

Jeffrey A. Baldwin

Jeffrey A. Baldwin, age 48, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 5, 2024, at Hubbard Hospice House West at Thomas Memorial Hospital in South Charleston, WV after a brave battle with cancer.

Jeff was born July 7, 1975, in Charleston, WV to Robert “Bob” and Brenda (Harless) Baldwin. He was a graduate of Duval High School. He married Candice (Butler) Baldwin on June 15, 2002. He worked as an EAM project manager with West Virginia American Water Co., displaying a wonderful knack for solving problems. Jeff truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures, chatting with friends and family, working hard, and lending a helping hand. Jeff had an uncanny ability to always make people laugh and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Jeff was preceded in death by his brother, Rodney Baldwin.

He is survived by his wife, Candice; daughters, Ariel and Emily; parents, Robert and Brenda; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Jeff never liked being the center of attention and per his wishes there will be no services and his body will be cremated.

The family wishes to send a special thank you to the staff at Dr. Ashish Sheth’s office, Dr. Narander Jogenpally’s office, Thomas Hospital Cancer Center, and HospiceCare for their care and compassion.

Tammy Joyce Woodall

Tammy Joyce Woodall, 59, of Hurricane passed away Wednesday, January 3, 2024, at CAMC Memorial Hospital after a short illness.

Tammy was a 1982 graduate of Duval High School and retired from the State of WV.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gary David Woodall; parents, Garnith & Margaret Totten Hughes; sister, Sharon Oldaker; and nephew, Eric Hughes.

Tammy is survived by her daughter, Nichole Oldham; grandchildren, Drew Oldham, Alex Young, and Karlee Thompson; siblings, Ricky (Janie) Hughes, Susie Hughes (Jean), Teresa Hudson, Scott Hughes, Rosie (Bert) Anderson; best friends, Leah George and Dawn Pierce.

Tammy’s wishes were to be cremated and a graveside service will be held in the Donel C. Kinnard Memorial State Veterans Cemetery at a later date.
