Gladys P. Childress, 94 of South Charleston, died Sunday, March 24, 2002 at home after a long illness.
Gladys was the rock of strength and stability for her family, counseling and guiding each one in times of trouble and sharing in times of joy. She was a talented horse-rider, basketball player in high school, bookkeeper for Schoolfield Harvey Electric, payroll at Union Carbide, gardener, excellent seamstress and cook – winning a W V State prize for bread baking. She was a member and treasurer of Hilltop Baptist Church and has been a member of the Bible Center Church for many years. She had a Beat sense of humor, gave fully of herself and was an immense asset to her family and friends, imparting the training of truth, intestinal fortitude, her faith and ethics. Gladys’ departure will leave a wide void in our lives but she will always be a part of us.

Services will be held at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, on Wednesday, March 27, 2002 at 11:00 AM with Peter Faulkner officiating. Burial will be held in Graceland Memorial Park, South Charleston. Friends may call on Tuesday, March 26, 2002 from 6 to 8 PM at the funeral home.
