Lowell Ray Bryant, Sr.

Lowell Ray Bryant, 86, of Yawkey, WV, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, July 17, 2018 at CAMC Memorial Division in Charleston.

He was a longtime member of Sand Fork Missionary Baptist Church and the Alum Creek VFW Post 4768. Lowell served in the U. S. Army during the Korean War. He worked as an auto mechanic until he became disabled.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Rosie Bethelen; children, Lowell Jr. (Donna) Bryant, Rosa McFarland, Charlene (Roger) Keesee, David (Darlene) Bryant, Karen Smith and Tammy (Larry) Barr; 12 grandchildren, Misty, Jamey, Amanda, Pamela, Shawna, Jennifer, Jessica, Jeremy, Leslie, Stacy, Kristen and Bethelen;  30 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.

Service will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, July 20, 2018 at Curry Funeral Home in Alum Creek, with Pastor Terry Sponaugle officating. Burial will follow at Miller Cemetery, Sweetland, with graveside honors conducted by the Alum Creek VFW Post 4768. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to offsett the funeral costs to Curry Funeral Home, PO Box 9, Alum Creek, WV 25003.

 

Martha O. Holstein

Martha O. Holstein, 76, of South Charleston, WV went home to the Lord Friday, July 13, 2018 at HHH West.

She attended the Independent Missionary Baptist Church of Alum Creek.

Martha was preceded in death by her siblings, Dorothy Ann McComas, Dorsel Martin Saddler, Sharon Laverne Sutphin, Mary Della McCormick and Franklin Albert Saddler.

She is survived by her husband, James; several children, grandchildren and great grandchildren; and brother William Daniel Saddler.

Service will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 17, at Curry Funeral Home in Alum Creek with Pastor Frank Chapman officiating. Burial will follow at Beech Grove Cemetery in Yawkey. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like to suggest donations to assist in offsetting the funeral costs. Checks may be made payable to Curry Funeral Home, PO Box 9, Alum Creek, WV 25003.

 

Patty Gail Mallory

Patty Gail Mallory, 61, of Alkol, WV went home to the Lord Thursday, July 12, 2018 at HHH West in South Charleston.

She was a member of Sycamore Grove Missionary Baptist Church.

Patty is survived by her husband of 43 years, David; son, D. J. (Sandy); parents, Everett and Louise Broughton; grandchildren, Ethan and Katie; and sisters, Donna Miller and Sandy (Brian) Miller.

Service will be 4:00 p.m. Sunday, July 15, 2018 at Curry Funeral Home in Alum Creek, with Pastor Dwight McClure officiating. Burial will follow at Mallory Family Cemetery in Alkol. The family will receive friends 2 hours prior to the service at the funeral home.

Phyllis Jean Rife

Phyllis Jean Rife, 83, of Sumerco, was called home to our Lord on Monday, July 2, 2018, at CAMC-Memorial Division, after a brief illness.

Born September 8, 1934 to William & Gertie Keeling. She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, John S. Rife, Sr.; brothers, Clifford, Okey, Asa, Cecil, and Eugene; sisters, Mayme, Mae, Betty, Wynoka, Dessie and Norine.

Phyllis to all who knew her was a unique and caring individual, who with her quick wit and contagious laughter was a blessing to everyone. She married John S. Rife, Sr., in 1956 and raised three loving children. Phyllis devoted her entire life to her children and loved all her animals. She was retired  owner & operator of Alum Creek Septic Service.

She is survived by her children, John Jr., (Selena), Angelea (Kevin), and Stephanie (Jay); grandchildren, Steven (Tabitha), Joshua, Desarae (Eric), Amanda (Cameron), Christina, Dillon, Anglea, Josh, and John Gage; great-grandchildren, Jeremiah, Lilliaunna, Avery and Reece; sister, Mary Wallace; and a host of nieces and nephews.

A celebration of her life will be 4:00 p.m.  Friday, July 6, 2018 at Curry Funeral Home in Alum Creek with Minister Kim Matthews officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Final resting place will be French Cemetery, Davis Creek, WV.

Sharon Lynn Wilson

Sharon Lynn Wilson, 70, of South Charleston went home to be with the Lord Sunday, July 1, 2018 at CAMC Memorial Hospital.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Emmett “Poodle” Wilson and parents, Hershel Mooney and Ruth Griffith.

Sharon was a member of the Briar Creek Baptist Church.

She is survived by her children, Melissa Wilson Jones and Melinda Holstein; sisters, Regina (Buddy) Sneed and Sandra Langford; 10 grandchildren and 1 great granddaughter.

Service will be held at noon Friday, July 6, 2018 at Curry Funeral Home in Alum Creek with Pastor Mike Graley officiating. Burial will follow at the Donel C. Kinnard Memorial State Veterans Cemetery in Dunbar.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Melvin Lloyd Schnurpel, Jr., 53, of Hurricane, WV, formerly of Indianapolis, Indiana, went home Wednesday, June 27, 2018 at CAMC-Teays Valley, Hurricane, WV.

He served four years in the U. S. Navy and also served four years with the Army Reserves. Melvin worked as a truck driver.

He is predeceased by his father, Melvin L. Schnurpel.

Melvin is survived by his wife of 24 years, Angela; five children, Terry, Brandon, Summer, Autumn & Stephanie; mother, Kitty Schnurpel of Richardson, TX; sister, Kathy Arya of Richardson, TX; and 16 grandchildren.

Service will be 6:00 p.m. Monday, July 2, at Curry Funeral Home in Alum Creek, with Pastor Brad Joseph officiating. Burial will follow at Fox Hill Cemetery in Spring Hill with military graveside rites. Friends and family with gather one hour prior to the service.

Thurmond Lenzy “Nunnie” Roberts Sr., 79, of Alum Creek, WV, died Wednesday, June 27, 2018 as a result of an auto accident.

Nunnie was a retired coal miner; he loved camping, sitting on his porch swing watching as cars go by and selling his delicious corn.

He was preceded in death by his wife Anita; parents, Cecil and Grace; brothers, Kennith, Richard and Jerry; sister, Phyllis; and grandson, Crae Justice.

Nunnie is survived by his sons, Timmy, Steve and David Roberts; daughter, Teresa Swoope; companion of 17 years, Jane Ann Hill and her sons, Joey, Robbie and Timmy; brothers, Ralph, Sonny, Tommy and Kermit; 13 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

Service will be 1:00 p.m. Monday, July 2, at Curry Funeral Home in Alum Creek with Pastor Frank Chapman officiating. Burial will follow at Forks of Coal Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Sandra J. “Sandi” Parsons, 80, Hurricane, WV, went to be with the Lord Tuesday, June 26, 2018 at home with her family by her side.

Sandi was a member of Faith Missionary Baptist Church in St. Albans. Sandi had worked as a secretary for several different companies thru the years.

She was predeceased by her parents, Tom and Grace Holman and brother, Tom (Ranny) Holman.

Sandi is survived by her loving husband of 24 years, Carl; son, Mark Ashworth; stepchildren, Mike (Matina) Parsons, Patrick (Renie) Parsons, Sheila Trader (Tony Ledbetter) and Lisa (Bruce) Lawson; sister, Debbie (Don) Surface; niece, Teri Surface; nephews, Ron and Brian (Brooke) Surface; and several grandchildren, great nieces and family members, not to forget her precious pride and joy, Moe, her cat.

Service will be 4:00 p.m. Sunday, July 1, at the Faith Missionary Baptist Church, 701 MacCorkle Ave. SW, St. Albans, WV with Pastors Mike Hager and John White officiating. The family will receive friends 2 hours prior to the service at the church.

Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Monday at Graceland Memorial Park in South Charleston.

The family would like to express a heartfelt thank you to loving caregivers, Hilda Mynes and Tammy Nelson and a special thank you to HospiceCare.

Giselle Lori Russell

Giselle Lori Russell, 53, of Charleston, WV, went to be with the Lord Tuesday, June 26, 2018 at Hubbard Hospice House, Charleston, WV, with her family by her side.

She was a graduate of Appalachian Bible College. Giselle served as the Children’s Specialist at the Dunbar branch of the Kanawha County Library and also loved and served faithfully with the children’s ministry programs at Bible Center Church. She served as an elementary school teacher in the Baltimore, Maryland area for over 20 years.

Giselle is survived by her parents, Dr. Bill and Gwen Russell; sister, Lesli (Pastor Shawn) Thornton of Simi Valley, CA; nephew and nieces, Jonathan, Katie and Megan; maternal aunt and uncle, Geraldine and Charles Hofmeister; paternal aunt, Earlene Russell; and cousins, Charles Hofmeister IV, Melissa Fisher, Dee Brindle, Kevin Russell and their families.

Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, June 28, at the Bible Center Church in Charleston, WV, with Pastors Shawn Thornton and Matt Friend officiating. Burial will follow at Graceland Memorial Park. The family will receive friends 2 hours prior to the service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Giselle’s name to Bible Center Church’s Children’s Ministry, 100 Bible Center Drive, Charleston, WV 25309.

The Russell family is grateful for friends and family who have encouraged them and prayed for them throughout Giselle’s year-long struggle with cancer. The family also wants to thank their caring, supportive church family of Bible Center and the excellent, compassionate staff of Kanawha County’s Hospice Hubbard House.

 

Rosemary Stowers Bell

Rosemary Stowers Bell, 82, of Yawkey, went to be with the Lord Monday, June 25, 2018, at home after a long illness.

She was a 1953 graduate of Duval High School. She was a retired secretary from the Lincoln County Board of Education with over 30 years of service having worked at Griffithsville Elementary and Duval High School as well as the central office in Hamlin. She was a Christian and attended Independent Missionary Baptist Church of Alum Creek.

Rosemary was preceded in death by her parents, Dewey and Nettie Egnor Stowers; her daughter, Teresa Lowery; her brother, Edgar Stowers; infant sister, Sandra Sue Stowers; infant daughter, Belinda Bell; and son-in-law, Bobby Lowery.

She is survived by her husband of 65 1/2 years, Oshel of Yawkey; daughters, Debbie (Max) Hill of St. Albans and Kim (Frank) Chapman of Alum Creek; two grandchildren, Robbie (Lauren) Lowery of Charlotte, NC and Melinda (Brian) Greathouse of Dunbar; niece, Kelli Stowers DeMicco and sister-in-law, Connie Stowers both of Aurora, OH.

Service will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, June 30, at Curry Funeral Home in Alum Creek with her sons-in-law Dr. Max Hill and Pastor Frank Chapman officiating. Burial will follow at Orchard Hills Memory Gardens, Yawkey. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
