Annabelle Hudson Monk, 88, a devoted wife and mother, died on August 23, 2024. Though she is missed sorely by her family, we rejoice in the knowledge that she is free of pain and illness and is in heaven with her Savior. In March of 2022, Annabelle was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-six years, Gene Monk.

Annabelle was one of nine children born to Clinton and Eufa Hudson. She was preceded in death by her four brothers (Carter Hudson, Paul Hudson, David Hudson and Basil Hudson) and is survived by her four sisters (Esther Long, Naomi McCracken, Rachel Kinder, and Sharon McClure) and three sisters-in-law, Doris Hudson, Brenda Hudson and Jane Morris. Annabelle is loved and missed by her children: son Monte Monk (wife: Melode Johnson Monk) of Delhi, Texas; son Mike Monk (wife Lauren Cooley Monk) of Charleston, South Carolina; and daughter Mary Ann Monk (husband: Brian Platt) of Fairfax, Virginia. One of the highlights of Annabelle’s life included her role as “Ma-Maw” to six grandchildren (Matthew Monk of Montgomery, Texas (wife: Stefanie), Meagan Monk of Baytown, Texas; Kat Cumberledge of Charleston, South Carolina (husband: Steven); Micah Monk of Columbia, South Carolina (fiancée: Olivia Jones-Hatton); Oscar Monk Platt and Silas Monk Platt of Fairfax, Virginia. Those who knew Annabelle best know that the most important thing in her life was her family. She loved visiting her children and grandchildren and getting together with her sisters, and looked forward each year to seeing extended family members at annual reunions. She was initially adrift after losing Gene, the love of her life, in 2022, but soon thrived while living on her own in her new community at Harmony at Southridge, where she reunited with old friends and made new ones.

A celebration of Annabelle’s life will be held at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek, WV, on Friday, August 30th.
