Mrs.Carrie Meddings Samples, 97 of Alum Creek, died Saturday, January 27, 2001 at Thomas Memorial Hospital, South Charleston after a short illness.
She was a homemaker and attended the Alum Creek Church of the Nazarene.
She is survived by her:

1 Sister: Frances Meddings Burton of St Albans, WV; 6 Grandchildren: David & Karen both of NC; Rick of South Charleston, WV; Tim of Mt. Olive, W V; Charles & Robert both of MI; 3 Great Grandchildren.

Services will be 12:00 noon on Tuesday, January 30, 2001 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Pastor Robert Leadman officiating. Burial will be in Forks of Coal Memorial Park, Alum Creek. Friends may call 1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

James C. Blankenship 84 of Alum Creek, died Friday, January 26, 2001 at CAMC Memorial Division after a short illness.

He was a retired painter and member of the Painters Union Local # 970. He was a former coal miner, a member of the Alum Creek Church of Christ and was an avid hunter.

He is survived by his: 3 Daughters: Dora Ann Headley of Weatherford, TX; Patricia Nunn of Alum Creek, W V; Kristy Canfield of Alkol, WV; 3 Sisters: Audrey Robinson of Coco, FL; Guynith McClure of Alum Creek, WV; Geraldine Wade of Hurricane, WV; 3 Brothers: Ralph J. Blankenship ofPennsboro, WV; Delmar R. Blankenship of Scott Depot, WV; Thomas W. Blankenship of Allentown, PA; 6 Grandchildren; 9 Great Grandchildren; 1 Great Great Granddaughter.

Services will be 2:00 PM Tuesday, January 30, 2001 at the Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Minister Gerald Watts and Minister Richard Runyan officiating. Burial will be in Orchard Hills Memory Gardens, Yawkey. Friends may call from 7 to 9 PM on Monday at the funeral home.

Raymond L. Gunno

Raymond L. Gunno, 81, of Charleston, died Tuesday, January 23, 2001 at home after a short illness.

He was a former employee of Union Carbide, Owens Market and Charleston Foundry. He served with CC Camps during WWII.

He is survived by his: 2 Daughters: Deloris Green of Charleston, WV; Ruth Weber of Alum Creek, WV; 1 Brother: Rev. Opha Gunno of Tyler Mountain, WV; 1 Sister:
Virgie Gill of Clay County, WV; 6 Grandchildren; 9 Great Grandchildren; 2 Great Great Grandchildren.

Memorial service will be held at Elk River Church of the Nazarene Saturday, January 27, 2001 at 1:00 PM with Rev. Glen Thaxton officiating. Burial will be in Gunno Cemetery, Charleston. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church. Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek is in charge of arrangements.. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the Alzheimer’s Association, 1200 Quarrier Street, Charleston, WV 25301.

Ethel Marie Dent

Ethel Marie Dent, 86 of Dunbar, formerly of Alum Creek, died Tuesday, January 23, 2001 at Thomas Memorial Hospital after a short illness.

She was a homemaker and member of Dunbar Senior Citizens Bridge Club. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Earl Dent, son, Billy Earl Dent and great grandson, Donald Eugene Baker III.

She is survived by her: 3 Daughters Barbara Graham of Hampton, VA; Betty Waldron of Alum Creek, WV; Bonnie Satterfield of Griffithsville, WV; 1 Brother: 1 Sister: Thomas Coates of Cincinnati, OH; Fanny Morgan of Somerset, OH; 10 Grandchildren; 13 Great Grandchildren.

Services will be held at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, on Saturday, January 27, 2001 at 2:00 PM with Pastor David Callison and Pastor Frank Chapman officiating. Burial will be held in Forks of Coal Memorial Park, Alum Creek. Friends may call on Friday, January 26, 2001 from 7 to 9 PM at the funeral home.

Paul V. Cunningham

Paul V. Cunningham, 71 of St. Albans, died Thursday, January 18, 2001 at Thomas Memorial Hospital, South Charleston, after a short illness.

He was a retired executive vice-president over operations at One Valley Bank, Charleston with 42 years of service.

He is survived by his: Wife: Doris; 3 Daughters: Patsy Brown of Chesterfield, VA; Linda S. Cunningham of Pittsburgh, PA; Judy Cunningham of Nitro, WV; 2 Sisters: Marie Wright of Huntington, WV; Lydia Rainey of Point Pleasant, WV; 1 Brother: Charles Cunningham, 3 Grandsons: Eric, Travis and Brian.

Services will be held at Highlawn Baptist Church, St. Albans, on Sunday, January 21, 2001 at 2:00 PM with Pastor Dr. Joe Hyde officiating. Entombment will be in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans. Friends may call on Saturday, January 20, 2001 from 6 to 8 PM at the Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek and one hour prior to service at the church. The family suggest donations be made to the Highlawn Baptist Church Building Fund, 2304 Jefferson Avenue, St. Albans, WV 25177.

She was retired from the West Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles and also West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources in Charleston with 25 years service. She also was a member of McCorkle Freewill Baptist Church and a 1944 Graduate of Duval High School.

She is survived by her: 2 Daughters: Sharon Dunlap of McCorkle, WV; Marcia Meeks of Winfield, WV; 1 Son: Melvin Griffith of Sod, W V; 2 Brothers: Cryil Smith of Glouster Point, VA; Shelton Smith of McCorkle, WV; 5 Grandsons.

Graveside services will be held at Forks of Coal Cemetery, Alum Creek, on Wednesday, January 17, 2001 at 2:00 PM with Pastor Frank Chapman officiating. There will be no visitation. Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek is in charge of arrangements.
