Joann Thomas of McCorkle, WV departed her earthly dwelling to be with the Lord on Monday, April 30, 2018. She was a patient at Hubbard Hospice House. She was born at McCorkle on May 10, 1920 and would have been 98 at her birthday.
Joann was the daughter of the late John Henry and Laurette Smith Armstrong. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Oscar Thomas; four brothers and their wives, Callie (Delia), Foster (Nellie), Harvey (Vercie), and Jackson; four sisters and their husbands, Reva (George) Atkins, Geneva, Lula (Art) Talada and Fancy (Fred) Dunlap; and by four sons-in-law.
The Lord blessed her with 97 wonderful years. Joann and Oscar were long time faithful servants of the Lord at McCorkle Freewill Baptist Church. She was a strong and compassionate woman and served her community by aiding and transporting friends and neighbors in need. Joann worked for the Department of Human Services making a home for mentally challenged ladies until she was nearly 90 years old. She had a heart for service.
She was loved and respected by all who knew her and was thought of as a Godly woman. Joann loved spending time in past years outdoors gardening, camping, and fishing. She was an amazing homemaker and a wonderful cook. She was well known for all of her canned goods.
Joann leaves behind seven children to cherish and honor her memory Madeline (James) Roberts, Ethel (Elzie) Miller, Lorraine (Paul) Smith-Jones, Lowell Jim (Sharon) Thomas, Evelyn (Eugene) Ball, Ella (John) Hensley and Barbara (David) McCallister. She is also survived by 20 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren and 18 great great grandchildren. She adored her family and the grandchildren who were the light of her life.
Service will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 3, at McCorkle Freewill Baptist Church, Sod, with Pastors Isaiah Hatfield and Bub Anderson officiating. Burial will follow at Thomas Family Cemetery in Sumerco.

Eric Franklin Hughes, 41, of Charleston went home Tuesday, April 17, 2018.
He loved the car sales business working all over the Kanawha Valley area never meeting a stranger. Eric served in the Air Force. He also wrote poetry, loved music but most of all loved his family.
Eric was preceded in death by his grandparents, Garnith and Margaret Hughes of Eli Road, Sod.
Eric is survived by his children, Damian of Fairmont, Malia and Carter both of Alum Creek; mother, Susan Hughes (Jean Long) of Pt. Pleasant; father, Frankie Sexton of St. Albans; favorite aunt, Sharon (Jim) Oldaker of Alum Creek; brothers, Jeremy (Tabytha) of Wickliffe, OH and Christopher (Tiffany) of Nitro, WV; nieces Skyler, Jojo, Ahja and Emma; nephews, Aiden and Liam; several aunts and uncles, Rick, Teresa, Scott, Tammy and Rosie; and a host of friends and other family.
A memorial service will be held 7:00 p.m. Thursday, May 3, at Curry Funeral Home in Alum Creek with Pastor Frank Chapman officiating. Burial will follow at a later date at Orchard Hills Memory Garden, Yawkey.
Friends may gather one hour prior to the service.

Garnet Marie Vickers, 90, of Alum Creek, WV, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 25, 2018.
She was born to the late Asa & Ruth Grubb Ford of Kopperston, WV. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward E. Vickers; brothers, Bill, Glenn, Bob, Jimmy and Ray Ford; and two infant sisters.
Garnet was a member of the Forks of Coal Missionary Baptist Church in Alum Creek and a member of the Madison Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star.
She is survived by daughters, Vicki (Robert) Stevens of South Charleston and Melinda (John) Moore of Charleston; son, Paul Edward (Connie) Vickers of Hurricane; brother, Rodger (Carol) Ford of Janesville, Minnesota; six grandchildren, Patricia Smith Roberts (Paul), Jenny Smith Commins (Scott), Paula Marion (Heath), and Thomas, Allison & Caroline Moore and eight great-grandchildren, Bayley, Scarlett, Wylloh and Sullivan Roberts, Grace and Andy Commins, and Katherine and Rachel Lawson.
Service will be 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 1, 2018 at the Forks of Coal Missionary Baptist Church, 2002 Childress Road in Alum Creek with Pastor Keith George officiating. Friends will gather one hour prior to the service at the church.
A private graveside service will be held Wednesday, May 2, at Orchards Hills Memory Gardens, Yawkey, WV.

Carson Wayne Tully, 76, of Sumerco, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, April 20, 2018.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John & Elizabeth Tully.
Carson was the owner & operator of Tully Drilling since 1971. He was a member of Cobbs Creek Missionary Baptist Church, and he loved the Lord and playing his banjo.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon; son, Chris Tully; daughter, Lisa Tully; brother, William Ferrell Tully; sister, Clara Dawn; and step-children, Betty C. Hicks, Sharon Watts, Rebecca Scott and Mearl Junior Reynolds; 17 step-grandchilren and 10 step-great-grandchildren.

Wanda Jean Jenkins, 67, of Alum Creek went home to be with the Lord on Friday, April 20, 2018 after an extended battle with Melanoma having first been diagnosed in 1994 and again in 2012.
She was a member of Forks of Coal Missionary Baptist Church in Alum Creek. Wanda was employed by Columbia Gas Transmission Corporation and WV Choice. She felt especially privileged to have spent several years as a home healthcare worker.
Wanda loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them, researching family tree data, crocheting, listening to southern gospel music, gardening and caring for animals.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Wilma Bender Jenkins; and brothers, David and Gary Jenkins.
Wanda is survived by her nephews, Franklin of Alum Creek, aunts and many cousins.
Service will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 25, 2018 at Curry Funeral Home in Alum Creek with Pastor Keith A. George officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, South Charleston. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

Mary Kathryn Caruthers, 47, of South Charleston went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 19, 2018 at CAMC General Division in Charleston.
She was a Christian and a graduate of the West Virginia Schools for the Deaf and Blind in Romney, WV.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Lewis and Audra Caruthers and brother, Ronald.
She is survived by her sisters, Sue (Mark) Holsinger and Sharon (Wayne) Midkiff; brothers, Paul Smith, David (Connie) Caruthers and Henry (Betty) Caruthers; and several nieces and nephews who considered her to be the best aunt ever.

Earl Junior Ryan, 81, of Yawkey went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 19, 2018 at CAMC General Hospital in Charleston.
He was born on February 24, 1937 in Flatcreek, WV, he was one of four children of the late James Earl and Cedilla McClure Ryan. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Arvil Gay Meadows.
Junior retired from Kanawha Manufacturing and their subsidiaries with greater than 40 years of service.
He was a devoted Christian and served as Deacon at Olive Missionary Baptist Church in Julian, WV.
Junior was a member of the Griffithsville Lodge #71, Scottish Rite, York Rite, Grand Chapter of Royal Arch Masons Tyrian #13, Kanawha Commandary #4 Knights Templar, Beni Kedem Shriners and the Order of the Eastern Star in Madison.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Peggy; sons, Richard (Terri), Gregory (Teresa) and Todd (Jayne) Ryan; brothers, Victor (Shirley) of Alum Creek and Stephen of Canton, MI; sister, Phyllis (Sammy) Huffman of Alkol; sister-in-law, Odean Meadows of Wayne, WV; 10 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandson; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was blessed with many wonderful friends and also had many years of pleasure from his friend, Molly the mule.

Shirley Jean Mullins, 80, of Griffithsville, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 18, 2018, at Thomas Memorial Hospital-ER in South Charleston.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Bruce & Ival McCallister and her husband of 44 years, Donald Ray Mullins.
She was a 1955 graduate of Duval High School, a beloved member of Amy Baptist Church now Yawkey Baptist Church where she served as a deacon’s wife. She was a dedicated Clerk for the people of Lincoln County for 26 years.
She is survived by her daughters, Debbie McCormick and Karen (Brian) Graley; brother Bill (Darelene) McCallister; grandchildren, Heather (Jason) Griffith, Lauren (Chris) Boner and Jacob Hall.

Christine Ann Board, 65, of Alum Creek, went home on Saturday, April 14, 2018 at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, WV, after a short illness.
She is survived by her husband of 39 years, Dencil; son, Dencil Robert Board; brothers, James, Allen (Cindy), Mike, and Donald Richard; and sisters, Opal McClintock & Donna Boulet.
