Jack Dean Pauley

Jack D. Pauley, 87, of Alum Creek, WV, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, June 20, 2018 at Hubbard Hospice House West in South Charleston.

Jack started in car sales at the age of 18, later becoming the owner and operator of Pauley Ford Sales in Ripley. Earlier in his career he worked at several area dealerships including Joe Holland Chevrolet for many years.

He was a Corporal in the U. S. Army during the Korean War. Jack was a Christian and attended Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church.

Jack was predeceased by his wife and mother of his children, Christine and brother, Jerry; brother-in-law, David Darnold.

He is survived by his wife, Ann; daughters, Kimberly Pauley and husband, Bryan Collier, Robin Pauley and Tina Pauley; step-daughter, Karen (Terry) Dotson; sister, Kay Darnold; brother, James (Betty Ann) Pauley; grandson, Robert Tabor and step-grandchildren, Sydney and Joseph Collier; sister-in-law, Jackie Pauley; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be at 6:00 p.m. Monday, July 2, 2018 at the Hopewell Independent Missionary Baptist Church located at the intersection of Rt. 119S and Brounland Road, South Charleston, WV. Pastor Dwight McClure will be officiating and Military Honors will be conducted by the Alum Creek VFW Post 4768.

Nathan Clay “Buzz” Little, Jr., 71, of Ridgeview, WV went home to be with the Lord Friday, June 15, 2018.  

He was born October 6, 1946 in Charleston, WV,  the son of Martha Little and the late Nathan Little, Sr., of Ashford, WV.  He was also preceded in death by Phyllis Little, the mother of his sons; sister, Patsy Cook and granddaughter, Madyson Little. 

Buzz loved fishing and watching football, but most of all he loved the Lord and attended churches throughout the community.  He was a hard worker from a young age.  He was a former member of the UMWA District 17 and also retired from the State of West Virginia. 

He is survived by his mother, Martha Little; former wife and longtime companion, Jeanie Little;  sons, Allen (Karen), Jamie, Robie (Brenda) and Joey (Micki) Little; 12 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren; sister, Rue (Curtis) Crick; brother, Bobby (Peggy) Little; stepchildren, April Pauley and Darrell (Kim) Canterbury;  former daughter-in-law and family friend, Lisa Little; and a huge host of family and friends including his neighbor, Stanley (Elizabeth) Shifflett who will greatly miss his laughter. 

Service will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, June 23,  at the Rumble Baptist Church with Pastor Richard Harold officiating. The family will receive friends 2 hours prior to the service at the church.  

A private committal service will be held at the Barker Cemetery for the family.

 

 

James A. “Jimmy” Hanshaw, 45, of Alum Creek, passed away in his sleep on Monday, June 18, 2018, at home.    He was preceded in death by his dad, Jerry Lee Hanshaw.

He is survived by his mother, Ann Hanshaw, brother, Richard Lee (Opal) Hanshaw and  grandmother, Pauline Hanshaw.  Jimmie also left behind many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends who will greatly miss him.

Service will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday, June 21, 2018 at Curry Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Frank Chapman officiating.  The family will receive friends 2 hours prior to the service at the funeral home.

Burial will follow at Graceland Memorial Park, South Charleston.

Timmie Irvin McClure

Timmie Irvin McClure, 70, of Danville, went home Saturday, June 16, 2018 at CAMC  Memorial Division.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence & Virginia McClure. 

He was a retired employee of Southern Public Gas and a very active member of Grandview Church of Christ.  He loved deer hunting, fishing and especially hunting for molly moochers.  He was a Vietnam War veteran.  

Timmie is survived by his wife of 33 years, Joyce;  children, Richard McClure, Robin, Chris, Kenneth, and Paula Berry; grandchildren, Gregory Parkins, Matthew, Freddie Dale, Danielle & Caitlyn Berry and Carla;  great-grandchildren, Kaydence, Kylie, & Daniel; great grandchild, Bristol; sister, Betty Kramlich; and brother, Junior (Diane) McClure. 

Service will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, June 30, 2018 at the Greenview Church of Christ in Greenview, WV.  Burial will be at the McClure Family Cemetery, Alkol.

Alberta Gay “Bertie” May, 62, of Alum Creek went home Friday, June 15, 2018 at CAMC General Division in Charleston.

She attended Independent Missionary Baptist Church in Alum Creek.

Bertie was preceded in death by her parents, Roy Edward and Ethel Blanch May; brother, Leon May; and sister, Helen Lacy.

She is survived by her children, Emma (Greg) Kinney; son, “Billy Jack” Lester; grandchildren, Amber, Amanda, Callie, Madison and Evelyn; great grandchildren, Montana, Jordan and Kayden; siblings, Pearl Pauley, Merle Smith, Ilene Dowling, Audrey Cooper, Jack May, Tubby May, Eddie May, Darlene Older, Bonnie Watson and Janice Manning.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Paul Bernard Painter

Paul Bernard Painter, 92, of South Charleston went home to be with the Lord, Sunday, June 10, 2018 at Hubbard Hospice West.

He was a retired Electrician, Instrument Mechanic and Crane Operator from FMC in South Charleston.

Paul served in the U. S. Navy during WWII. He was also a member of the Dunbar Masonic Lodge #159 and a Life Member of the Benny Padilla VFW Post 4768.

He preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Dilima Loftus Painter; and brothers, Earl, Burl and Chuck.

Paul is survived by his wife of 70 years, Anna Mae; children, Joyce Galloway, Richard Paul Painter, Lou Weisberg and Mona Painter; grandchildren, Andria, Elijah, Billy and Michael; and great grandchildren, Asa, Heidi and Aria.

Service will be 8:00 p.m. Thursday, June 14, 2018 at Curry Funeral Home in Alum Creek with Pastor Frank Chapman officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.

The committal service will be 1:00 p.m. Friday at the Emma Chapel Cemetery in Emma Chapel, WV, with military and Masonic graveside rites.

Virginia Ann Holstein

Virginia Ann Holstein, 67, of South Charleston, went home Sunday, June 10, 2018.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Chester & Mandy Johnson; siblings, Jim, Evelyn, Ruby, Mabel, and Ronnie.

She is survived by her children, Frank (Karla) Barker, Kathy Pauley, Michael Reed, and Becky Martin; three grandchildren, Jesse and Chelsea Pauley and Katie Riley; brothers Henry and Paul Johnson; sister, Margie Dukes; and special niece, Laurel (Mark) Tanner.

Service will be 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 13, 2018, at Curry Funeral Home in Alum Creek. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. prior to the service.

Burial will be at a later date at Johnson Family Cemetery.

 

 

 

 

Ralph William “Will” Hitchcock, 55, of South Charleston, passed away Sunday, June 10, 2018 at St. Mary’s Medical Center, Huntington, WV.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Janie and brother, Danny.

Will was an auto mechanic. He is survived by his five children, Kenny Holestine, Candy (Justin) Jeffries, Barbara Hitchcock, Jamie McClure and Hillary (Leland) McClanahan; mother, Jane Hitchcock; brothers, Johnny, Mark, Dennis and Rick.

Memorial service will be 5:00 p.m. Friday, June 15, 2018, at Curry Funeral Home in Alum Creek with Pastor Frank Chapman officiating.

Mona Faye Thevenin

Mona Faye Thevenin, 74, of South Charleston went home Saturday, June 9, 2018 at Cabell Huntington Hospital.

She was currently employed at the WV State Medical Association. Mona also worked and retired from CAMC and Carelink.

Mona was preceded in death by her parents, Romeo and Zelma Glenn; two infant brothers; and sister, Beverly Harris.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Curtis; daughter, Debbie (Robert) Downs; son, Mike (Rose) Thevenin; grandchildren, Jonathan (Shawana) Downs, Brooke and Jessica Thevenin; great granddaughter, Madelyn Downs; brother, John (Linda) Glenn; and many other family and friends who will love and will miss her greatly.

Service will be 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 12th, at Curry Funeral Home in Alum Creek with Pastor David Mitchell and Danny Scalise officating. The family will receive friends from 4 – 6 p.m. Tuesday prior to the service.

A private family burial will follow the service at the Thaxton Family Cemetery in South Charleston.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in memory of Mona to a nonprofit therapy center dear to the family, the Laurance Jones III Childhood Language Center, 1313 Quarrier Street, Suite A, Charleston, WV 25301.

 

Delilah Ann Scott

Delilah Ann Scott, 69, of Alum Creek, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, June 7, 2018, at Hubbard Hospice House, Charleston, with her family by her side.  She was preceded in death by her parents, John & Evelyn McCormick and sister, Brenda “BB” Hunter.

Delilah was a loving and dedicated servant of the Lord who faithfully ministered as a pastor’s wife, choir director, Sunday school teacher and so much more. She was a member of McCorkle Freewill Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Ron, children, Deah Scott, Shara Bevan, and Myron (Julie) Scott; Grandsons, Johnathan, Bradley, Brandon, Braiden, Evan, Pierson, Cohen & Westin, and brother J.D. (Pam) McCormick.

Service will be 5:00pm Saturday, June 9, 2018, at the McCorkle Freewill Baptist Church with Pastors Isaiah Hatfield and John Gorrell officiating.  Burial will follow at the Scott Family Cemetery, Alum Creek.   Friends and family may gather one hour prior to the service.
