Charlette Ann Williams Hall, 76, of Charleston, WV, passed from this life Tuesday, October 15, 2019. She was born April 3, 1943 in South Charleston to the late Lester and Kathleen Shelton Williams.

Charlette was married to the late Ivan Hall of Canton, Ohio. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Jack, Craig, Reid. and Ward Williams.

She is survived by two sisters and two brothers, Renee Williams Knuckles, of Prosperity, South Carolina, Tonda Williams Strickland, of Elkview, West Virginia, Rev. Joe Williams and wife Sandra of Cleveland, Ohio, and Rev. Dana Williams and wife Esther of Wedowee, Alabama. She also is survived by many nieces and nephews.

Charlette was a beloved big sister to all her family. At a young age, she became a mother figure and helped raise her younger siblings. To her, we will be forever grateful. Always loving and kind, she will be greatly missed.

The Charlette Williams Hall Family will be receiving friends, Friday, October 18, 2019, from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at the Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, West Virginia and the funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Charlette’s brothers, Rev. Dana Williams and Rev. Joe Williams will be the officiating ministers. Burial will be immediately following the services at the Shultz Cemetery, on Hudson Valley Rd., Smith Creek, South Charleston, WV.

Edna Mae Truex

Edna Mae Truex, 96, of Sod, West Virginia, formerly of Monroe County, Ohio, died Sunday, October 6, 2019.

She was born January 19, 1923 near Beallsville, Ohio, a daughter of the late Everett and Pearl Miller Henthorn.

Edna Mae was a member of the Church of Christ.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ray E. Truex on March 24, 2009; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Donald and Gail Henthorn and Virgil and Bonnie Henthorn.

Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Janet Truex of Ronceverte, West Virginia, and a daughter and son-in-law with whom she resided, Kathy and Vernon Adams of Sod; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one great great-granddaughter.

Service will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, October 12, 2019 at the Harper Funeral Home, 52728 Ohio Ave., Beallsville, Ohio, with Evangelist Tom Butterfield officiating. Interment will follow at Beallsville Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Edna’s family would like to thank Kanawha Hospice Care of Charleston, WV, for the excellent care that was given to their mother and grandmother these last weeks and months.

Edna C. Burns

Edna C. Burns “Chee Chee”, 92, of Scott Depot, WV, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 6, 2019, at Hubbard Hospice House, Charleston, WV.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Burns; parents, Albert & Essie Hill Watts; and sisters, Helena Matthews and Pauline Inman.

She was a homemaker and a former member of Hamlin Church of Christ.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Donald (Lena) Burns of Scott Depot, children of heart, Junior and Kathy Breedlove and Rose Rakes;  sister, Alberta McKinney; three grandchildren, B. J. Burns, Jamie (Matt) Cline, and Lori (Steve) Billington and grandchildren of heart, Michael Breedlove and Michelle Painter;  six great grandchildren, Addison, McKinley, Ainsley, and Emery Cline,  and John and Sarah Billington; and  several nieces and nephews.

Service will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 9, 2019 at Curry Funeral Home in Alum Creek, with Minister Charles McKinney officiating. Burial will follow at Orchard Hills Memory Gardens in  Yawkey.

Family and friends will gather two hours prior to the service.

Sylvia Margo Miller

Sylvia Margo Miller, 69, of Sumerco, WV, went home to be with her Lord Saturday, October 5, 2019, at Hubbard Hospice House West in South Charleston.

She was a Certified Medical Assistant, last working at Living Well Medical Center in Charleston.

Margo served tirelessly alongside her husband, Jackie, in ministry over the years most recently at the New Covenant Baptist Church in Alum Creek. She was totally selfless, as she was always providing for others, always quick to be a friend, and sharing an encouraging hug.

She was preceded in death by her son, Jackie Alan Miller; parents, Thomas W. and Evelyn Brogan Armstrong; Earl and Nola Loftis, who helped raise her; sisters, Wilhelmina Young, Glenna Lanham, and Janet McClure; and brother, Dennis Madden.

Margo is survived by her husband of almost 53 years, Jackie; daughters, Laura (Eric) Akers and Teresa (Danny) Hughes; adopted grandchildren, Grace, Colten and Christopher “Ty”; grandchildren, Matthew, Elizabeth and Christian; brothers, Laurence K. (Cindy) and Thomas Wayne (Ina), and Donald “D.A.” (Becky) Armstrong.

Service will be 7:00 p.m. Monday, October 7, 2019, at the New Covenant Baptist Church, 527 Midway Road, Alum Creek, with Pastors Dwight McClure and Steve Rhinehart officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7:00 p.m. at the church.

Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 8, at the Miller Family Cemetery in Sumerco.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The New Covenant Baptist Church for The Old Path’s Youth Camp (a favorite of Margo’s).

 

Billy Ray Woodrum

Billy Ray Woodrum, 84, of Tornado, WV, passed away Friday, October 4, 2019, at CAMC Memorial  Division, Charleston, WV, after a short illness.

He was a veteran of the U. S. Army.   Billy retired after 33 years as a truck driver for Valley Bell Milk Co.,  where he drove over a million miles  accident free.  He loved working on small engines and helping repair lawnmowers for the neighbors.

Billy had a love for fishing and going to his camp on the Greenbrier River.  He dearly loved his family, neighbors, and grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mabeline Woodrum;  parents, Leslie Donald and Macil Ellen (McDowell) Woodrum.

Billy is survived by his sons, Mike (Shari) and Jeff (Jill) Woodrum; brothers, Keith and Larry Woodrum of Ohio; and 6 grandchildren, Shannon, Steven, Austin, Cameron, Alyssa, and Aydin.

A memorial service will be held at 6:00 p.m. Friday, October 25, at Curry Funeral Home in Alum Creek, with Pastor Frank Chapman officiating.

Eddie Joe Deel

Eddie Joe Deel, 71, of Hoschton, GA, formerly of Alum Creek, went to his heavenly home and presence of his Lord on Monday, Sept 2,2019.

Ed was born on Oct.23,1947. He joined the U.S. Army in June 1966 and was a Drill Instructor at Ft. Leonard Wood, MO helping to train men for the Vietnam war.  Ed married Dorothy Kay Priestley, April 29,1967. He worked at FMC until he left to study for full time ministry at Appalachian Bible college. He served as Pastor in churches in PA, WV, AL and GA.

He is survived by his wife, Kay; daughter, Angela of Dacula, GA; grandchildren, Sierra, Levi & Ryan; sister, Sue Hartwell, So. Charleston and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be Saturday, Oct.19, at 12:00 pm at the Alum Creek Independent Missionary Baptist church with Pastor Frank Chapman officiating.

Betty Ann Tyler

Betty Ann Tyler, 70, of Alum Creek, WV, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 24, 2019.

She was born on December 8, 1948 to the late Gertrude and John Stotler. Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Kelly Dean Tyler; brothers, Dennie and Calvin; and sisters, Patsy and Shirley.

She is survived by her daughters, Lisa Ann Hall (Brad) and Kathy Lynn May (Jamey); sons, Kelly Dean Tyler, Jr. (Mary) and Gary Alan Tyler; brothers, Johnnie, Randy, Dave and Dale Stotler; sisters, Kathy (Tim) Kemper, Sandy (Freddy) Thomas, Gail (Bill) Foster, Margie Linehan and Tonya Shaw; friend and companion, Danny Holstein; seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren; and many relatives and friends.

Service will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, September 27, at Curry Funeral Home in Alum Creek with Pastors Frank Chapman and Michael Gibson will be officiating. Burial will follow at Holstein Cemetery in Dartmont.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Harvey Edward Slonaker II

Harvey Edward Slonaker II, 53, of Alum Creek, WV, died Wednesday, September 18, 2019, as a result of an accident on Childress Road in Alum Creek.

He was an employee at Cabella’s. Harvey served in the U. S. Army Military Police 501st., and also served as a medic in Desert Shield for the 24th I.D.

Harvey was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey Edward and Ruth Violet Slonaker.

He is survived by his children, Brighid Franceschi of Puyallup, Washington, Somya and Seamus of Alum Creek, WV; brother, Mark Slonaker of Indiana; and sister, Gloria Rice of California.

Service will be 12:00 p.m. Saturday, September 21, at Curry Funeral Home in Alum Creek. The family will receive friends 2 hours prior to the service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the West Virginia Veterans Home, 512 Water Street, Barboursville, WV  25504.

Joanna Wynona Fletcher

Joanna Wynona Fletcher, 87, of Alum Creek, WV, went home to be with the Lord Monday September 16, 2019 at CAMC-Memorial Division in Charleston, WV.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Wyatt and Lillie Gibson; husband, Charles Ray Fletcher; son, David; daughter, Betty; grandson, Jeremy Fletcher; and  sisters, Margaret, Mildred, Florence, and Ruby.

Joanna was a member of Brier Creek Baptist Church, and enjoyed spending time with family and singing.

She is survived by her children Madonna (Joe) Lude, Ellen McCallister, Charles(Sandy) Fletcher, Jr., Patricia (Jerry) Holstine, Melody (Dale) McCormick, Leasa Fletcher, Eddie, Gary, and Kenneth Fletcher; brother, George “Buddy” (Reba) Gibson; 17 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.

Service will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, September 20, 2019 at Curry Funeral Home with Pastors Frank Chapman, Michael Gibson, and Tommy Roberts officiating. Burial will follow at Graceland Memorial Park, South Charleston. Friends will gather 1 hour prior to the service.

Paul Jack “P.J.” Midkiff

Paul Jack “PJ” Midkiff, 85, of South Charleston, passed away Sunday, Sept. 15, 2019, at CAMC-General Division, Charleston, WV.

He was born in Lillybrook, WV, on Sept. 12, 1934, the son of the late Raymond O. and Cecile Loftus Midkiff. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Elaine Midkiff Bell, and by his brother, Conrad R. Midkiff.

PJ retired from Bell Atlantic /Verizon in 1987 with 35 years service. He was a life member of the Telephone Pioneers, the Dunbar Masonic Lodge #159, Scottish Rite, Beni Kedem Shriners and Eastern Star.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Martha “Patsy” Stewart Midkiff; sons, Steven Craig Midkiff and David Eric Midkiff and his wife, Yolanda; granddaughters, Jennifer, Kristen, Miranda and Ashley and seven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters, Marian Crowe of Huntington, and Yvonne DeBord of Alum Creek.

Service will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 18, 2019, at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, with Pastor Frank Chapman officiating. Burial will follow at Graceland Memorial Park, South Charleston. Friends and family will gather one hour prior to the service.
