James “Russell” Curry

James “Russell” Curry, 73, of Yawkey passed away Thursday, June 6, 2002, at CAMC General Division as a result of injuries sustained in a December 17, 2001 car accident.

He was preceded in death by his parents James E. and Mary Craddock Cuny, brother Kenneth Curry and son Jodi Curry.

He was a member of Cobbs Creek Missionary Baptist Church at Sod, the Griffithsville Masonic Lodge. He was a retired welder and a 52 year member of the Plumbers & Pipefitters Loca1625. He was a Korean War Veteran.

He is survived by: Wife: Wilma Jean Breedlove Curry; Daughters: Demettria Curry of Dunbar, W V Jennifer Dunlap of Charleston, WV; Daughter-in-law: Pat Curry of Charleston, WV; Grandchildren: Rusty Weddington & wife, Missy of Yawkey, W V Devon &Colin Dunlap, and Nolan Curry all of Charleston, WV; Great Grandchildren• Emilee, Ashley &Caleb all of Yawkey, WV; Aunt: Ina McClure of Cleveland, Ohio; Special Daughter: Leah Saul Sowards of Yawkey, WV.

Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, June 9, 2002 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Pastor Phil Suiter officiating. Burial will be held in Orchard Hills Memory Gardens at Yawkey with Masonic Graveside Rites by the Griffithsville Masonic Lodge and also Military Graveside Rites by the Benny Padilla VFW Post 4768. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday, June 8, 2002 from 6 to 8 p.m.

L. Darrell Duncan

L. Darrell Duncan, 83 of South Charleston, formerly of Olcott, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, June 5, 2002 at CAMC Memorial Division after a long illness.

He resided at the home of his nephew and his wife, Eddie and Vicki Belcher. He was a former employee of Dickinson Fuel Co., with 14 years service and a retired employee of the Kanawha County Board of Education with 27 years of service. Darrell was a Christian, a graduate of Washington District High School Class of 1937, and a lifelong resident of Kanawha County.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Tressa Griffith Duncan, his sister, Betty Duncan Belcher, and nephew Mark Steven Duncan.

He is survived by his: 3 Brothers and Sisters-in-law: Nile Edsil and Echo Duncan of Charleston, WV Charles Dexter and Helen Duncan of South Charleston, WV Bobby Norris and Eulah Faye Duncan of South Charleston, WV; 1 Brother-in-law: Edward Belcher of South Charleston, WV; Several nieces and nephews: Diana Morris, Drema Watts, C.D. Duncan, Jill Novak, Teresa Singer, Cheryl Belcher, Carlye Belcher, Sherry Lewis, Sonja Davison, Shelia McCormick, Denise Hannan & Kim Rodeheaver; Aunt: Dora Griffith Trampus, St. Albans, WV; several Great nieces and nephew.

Services will be held at Hopewell Baptist Church located on Brounland Road, Alum Creek, Saturday June 8, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Frank Chapman and Pastor William Layne officiating. Burial will be held in Forks of Coal Memorial Park, Alum Creek. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. at the church Friday, June 7, 2002. Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek in charge of arrangements.

Earl Lawson

Earl Lawson, 79, of Yawkey died Wednesday, June 5, 2002 at Thomas Memorial Hospital after a short illness.

He was a member of Council Gap Church of Christ and a been a farmer all his life.

He is survived by: His Twin Sister: Pearl Wade of St. Albans, WV; 2 Nieces: Carol Wade of St. Albans, WV Kay Mays of Butler, KY; and a Host of Friends.

Services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, June 8, 2002 at Curry Funeral Home with Minister Bill Edwards officiating. Burial will be in Orchard Hills Memory Gardens, Yawkey, WV. Friends may call Friday, June 7, 2002 from 7 to 9 p.m.

Daisy Mae Watts

Daisy Mae Watts, 90, of Sod, died Tuesday, June 4, 2002, at Riverside Nursing Home, St. Albans after a long illness. She was a homemaker and member of Council Gap Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Watts &her sister, Madeline Dunlap.

She is survived by: 1 Son: William “Delano” Watts, of Sod, WV; 1 Daughter: Elaine Stephens of Houston, TX; 3 Sisters: Dessie Graley and Opal Elkins of Sod, WV Birdie Priestley of Clover, South Carolina; 5 Grandchildren 5 Great Grandchildren.

Service will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 7, 2002 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, with Minister Bob Kessinger officiating. Burial will be in Watts Cemetery, Sod. Friends may call one hour prior to service at the funeral home.

The family wishes to express their thanks to the staff of Riverside Nursing Home for their kind and loving Gaze that was given to Daisy during her stay there.

Irene Elizabeth Humphrey Saul

Irene Elizabeth Humphrey Saul, 86 of Yawkey, died Monday, July 1, 2002 at CAMC Memorial Division, Charleston after a sudden illness.

Mrs. Saul was the loving wife for 63 years of Crever Lewis Saul. Born March 15, 1916, the daughter of Columbus and Daisy Hill Humphrey. She was also preceded in death by the only child, Bobby Eldon Saul.

Mrs Saul was a lifelong member of the Beech Grove Baptist Church where she was the pianist, she was also a member of the Eastern Star Lodge # 106 of Hamlin.
She will be greatly missed by her family

Betty L. Burchett

Betty L. Burchett, 69 of Okeechobee, FL, formerly of Alum Creek, WV, died Friday, May 31, 2002 in Richmond Hill, GA after a short illness.

She was a member of the Toms Creek Freewill Baptist Church in Toms Creek, KY.

She is survived by: Husband: Noah; 4 Sons: Charles Williams of Brookville, OH; David Pauley of Vandalia, OH; Ronald Pauley of Sumerco, WV; Lawrence Pauley of Sumerco, WV; 1 Daughter: Cazolyn Greene of Dayton, OH; 7 Grandchildren; 4 Great Grandchildren.

Services will be held at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, Tuesday, June 4, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev.James Kelly Caudill officiating. Burial will be held in the Forks of Coal Cemetery, Alum Creek. Friends may call from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Maude DeBord Fenimore

Maude DeBord Fenimore, 101, of Clarksburg, went home to be with the Lord, Wednesday, May 29, 2002 at Valley Health Village So. Charleston,. She was born at Olcott and was preceded in death by her husband Arthur H. Fenimore. She was a member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church at Clarksburg where she was very active in Child Evangelism Fellowship.

She is survived by: Several Nieces and Nephews.

Services will be held at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, June 1, 2002 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Richard Phelps officiating. Burial will be held at Graceland Memorial Park, So. Charleston. Friends may call one hour prior to service at the funeral home.

Arlow L. Frice, Sr.

Arlow L. Frice, Sr., 84 of Brounland Road, Alum Creek went home to be with Jesus Sunday, May 26, 2002.

He was a retired laborer for Union Carbide in South Charleston. A World War 11 Army Veteran and recipient of two purple hearts.

He is Survived by: 2 Daughters: Carol S. King & Shirley J. Alexander both of Alum Creek, WV; 1 Son: Arlow L. Price Jr. of Alum Creek, WV; 1 sister: Joline Hudson of South Charleston; Several Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren, &Great great grandchildren.

Services will be 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 29, 2002 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Rev Jimmy Webb&Rev.Roscoe Ratcliff officiating. Burial with military graveside rites conducted by the Benny Padilla VFW Post 4768 will be held at Brounland Cemetery at Alum Creek. Friends may call from 7 to 9 on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Andrew L. Snodgrass

Andrew L. Snodgrass, 36, of Madison, formerly of South Charleston, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 25, 2002 after a long illness.

He was preceded in death by his father, Roy Lee Snodgrass; his paternal grandparents, Elmer and Mary Snodgrass; and his maternal grandmother, Phyllis Shamblin.

He was a graduate of St. Albans High School and was a participant in the Shawnee Hills programs for many years. Andrew also enjoyed and excelled in the Special Olympics.

He is survived by: Mother & Step-Father: Linda and Larry Totten of Charleston, WV; 2 Bros: Scott & Mark Snodgrass of Charleston, WV; 2 Sisters: Debra Snodgrass of Charleston, WV Tamela Adkins of South Charleston, WV; Maternal Grandfather: Ervin Shamblin of Prenter; and many other loved ones.

Service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 28, at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, with Pastor Merlin Provance officiating. Burial will be in Pineview Cemetery, Orgas. Friends may call from 7 to 9 Monday at the funeral home.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Davis Creek Church of the Nazarene.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Ivan Rhoades.
