Perry “Perk” Harrison

Perry “Perk” Harrison, 42, of Alum Creek died unexpectedly December 19, 2007.  He was employed by the Public Works Department, City of Charleston. He was an avid deer hunter and a Nascar, Jeff Gordon fan.

His precious daughter, Susan, was the ultimate apply of his eye.  He is survived by: Daughter: Susan Lynn; Parents: Sue & Sonny Roberts and “Bibby” Harrison; Companion: Dreama Holeston; Sister: Roxanne Bailey of South Charleston; 7 Brothers: Kevin Harrison, Craig Roberts, Glen Roberts, Lane Stewart, Brent & Chad Harrison, and Jason Eastwood.  Lots of nieces and nephews that loved him dearly.

Service will 2:00 pm Sunday, December 23, 2007 at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek, with Pastor Frank Chapman officiating. Burial will be in Forks of Coal Cemetery, Alum Creek. Friends and family may call Saturday from 6 – 8 pm at the funeral home.

Kassi Ra’shell Aldridge Holley, 19, of Griffithsville, formerly of Ramage passed away in her sleep Monday, December 17, 2007 at home.

She is survived by her Husband: Patrick; Son: Jacob; Daughter: Shayla; Parents: Clyde & Rhonda Aldridge; Brother: Daniel Aldridge; Sister: Danielle Aldridge; Maternal grandmother: Wilma Aldridge; Maternal grandparents: Margaret and Charlie Ball; John and Brenda Ball; Paternal grandparents: Donna and Gary Holley; Paternal great grandmother: Maria McCallister and Brothers-in-law: Michael and Joshua

Services will be 1:00 pm Friday, December 21, 2007 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Pastor Dave Callison officiating. Burial will be in Stowers Cemetery, Griffithsville, WV.  Friends may call on Thursday from 6 to 8 pm at the funeral home.

Doris Byrd Manbevers

Doris Byrd Manbevers, 69, of So. Charleston passed away Tuesday, Dec 11, 2007 at Valley Health Village in So. Charleston after a long illness.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Vernon & Fannie Byrd; brother, Donnie Byrd and sister, Goldie Miller.  She is survived by: 3 brothers and their wives: Paul & Maureen Byrd of Louisiana; Gene & Dorothy Byrd of So. Charleston; Gary & Sharon Byrd of Nitro; 3 Sisters: June Taylor & Frank of St. Albans; Garnet Seem Dreama & Jim Sloan of St. Albans.  Doris was a wonderful sister & aunt who loved her nieces & nephews as her own children.

Service will be 1:00 pm Thursday, December 13, 2007 at Curry Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Ezra Graley officiating. Burial will be in Akers Family Cemetery, South Charleston. Friends may call Wednesday from 6 to 8 pm at the funeral home.

Ivan Dempsey Murphy

Ivan Dempsey Murphy, 75, of Davis Creek, went home to be with the Lord, Sunday, December 9, 2007 at the Sunbridge Care and Rehabilitation for Dunbar after a long illness.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Bob Murphy.  He was a retired truck driver for Marker Construction Co. And many other companies in Charleston and was a member of the Parsons Chapel Advent Christian Church, Charleston.  His is survived by: wife, Norva “Peggy” Murphy; Step-son: William Edward “Bill” Murphy and wife Darlene of Charleston; 2 Daughters: Linda Walker and husband, Marvin of Lewisburg; Debbie Jones and husband, Bill of Jacksonville, Florida; 3 Sons: Mike Murphy and Danny Murphy both of Jacksonville, Florida; Ivan D. Murphy, Jr. of Beckley; Brother: Donnie Murphy of Charleston and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Services will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, December 14, 2007 at the Parsons Chapel Advent Christian Church, 1449 – 6th Avenue, Charleston, with Minister Donald Young officiating. Entombment will be held at Graceland Memorial Park Mausoleum, South Charleston. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 PM Thursday at the church.  Curry Funeral Home Alum Creek, is in charge of arrangements.

Clara A. Perry

Clara A. Perry, 81, of Charleston, went home to be with the Lord Saturday, December 8, 2007, at Thomas Memorial Hospital So. Charleston after a long illness.

She was preceded in death by her parents William Ferrell Coleman and Eliza Lucinda Hatfield Coleman Smith, husbands Robert E. Martin and John Perry, sister Alma Beatrice Armstrong, brother Oliver Wendall Homes Coleman.  She was former owner and operator of the Tiger Mart Exxon and Convenience Store in So. Charleston for 10 years.

She is survived by her three daughters: Melissa Kessel, Jane Jackson and husband Ed, Roberta Dunlap and husband Denzil all of Charleston; Sister: Cosby Jane Murphy of So. Charleston; Grandchildren: Jordan Spurlock, Clarissa Myers, April, Bradley and Robbie Lilly and Great Grandchildren: Jakob Whitlock, Aaron Spurlock and Marcus Lilly.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, December 11, at Orchard Hills Memory Gardens at Yawkey with Pastors David Jones and Shawn Thornton officiating. There will be no visitation. Curry Funeral Home Alum Creek is in charge of arrangements.

Isabell Jones

Isabell Jones, 69, of Sod, went home to be with the Lord Thursday, December 5, 2007 a CAMC General Division Charleston.

She was a member of the McCorkle Freewill Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her Parent Everett and Delcie Dunlap, and sister Averine Justice.

Isabell is survived by her husband of 52 years, Paul; Daughter Teresa Smith and Husband Ted of Sod;Grandchildren: Crystal Dawn Smith of St. Albans and Morgan Tyler Smith of Sod;Great Grand-daughter: Braelyn Shea O’Neal; Sister: Linda Kay Stanley and husband Jerry of Alum Creek; 5 nieces and 2 nephews.

Funeral service will be 2:00 PM Saturday, December 8, at McCorkle Freewill Baptist Church at McCorkle with Pastors Roe Smith and John Gorrell officiating. Burial will be at the Pine Grove Cemetery at McCorkle. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.  Curry Funeral Home Alum Creek is in charge of arrangements

Beverly J. Glenn Harris

Beverly J. Glenn Harris, 68, of South Charleston, passed away on Friday, November 30, 2007 at Hubbard Hospice House, Charleston after along illness.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Zelma and Romeo Glenn and her husband, Franklin D. Harris and two infant brothers Alfred Lee and Franklin O’Neil Glenn.

She was retired from the West Virginia American Water Company.  She is survived by her daughter, Robin L. Fitzwater; granddaughter, Nikki Harris; grandson, Tristian Fitzwater; sister, Mona Thevenin; brother, John Glenn all of So. Charleston; four nieces, one nephew, one great nephew, and seven great nieces.

Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 2, 2007 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Pastor David Mitchell officiating. Burial will be held in Thaxton Family Cemetery, South Charleston. Friends may call on Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, friends may make donations to the Hubbard Hospice House, 1001 Kennawa Drive, Charleston, West Virginia 25311.

John W. Gillispie

John W. Gillispie, 55, of Alum Creek, died Saturday, November 24, 2007 at home.  He was a truck driver.

He is survived by his wife, Teresa; Daughter: Lisa Gillispie; 3 Sons: Johnny Gillispie II, Jason Gillipsie and Brian Gillispie; 3 grandchildren: Kayden, Alexis, and Jacoby; and 4 brothers: Roger, David, Marvin and Gary Gillispie and Sister: Regina Barker.

Services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 28, 2007 at the Emmons Free Will Baptist Church with Pastor Robert McCallister officiating. Rondal Williams

Rondal Williams, 78, of Alum Creek went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 20, 2007 at home surrounded by family & friends after a short illness. 

He was a retired coal miner and attended Alum Creek Independent Missionary Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wallace & Grace Williams, brother, Stanley Williams and sister, Arlene Harrison.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Patricia; Sons: Eric & David both of Alum Creek; Todd of Hurricane; Brother: Carl Williams of Chelyan; Sisters: Melva Hudson of St Albans; Evelyn Jackson, Gloria Dodd & Louise Curry all of Alum Creek; 8 Grandchildren, 8 Great grandchildren, and a host of friends.

Services will be 1:00 PM on Saturday, Nov 24, 2007 at the Curry Funeral Home Chapel 2097 Childress Rd., Alum Creek with Pastor Frank Chapman officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Memorial Park at So Charleston,. Friends may call from 6 to 8 PM on Friday at the funeral home.

Johnnie Thompson

Johnnie Thompson, 54, of Sod, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, November 19, 2007 at home after a short illness.  He was preceded in death by his half brother, Jimmy Dunlap.  He was a member of Local Laborers Union #1353 for 19 years, was an employee of Hayslett Construction Co. and he was a devoted husband, dad and papaw.

He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Pam; two daughters, Tracy Bailey of Alum Creek and Kristy Thompson of Sod; two grandsons, Jarrett and Dakota; mother, Vennie Holstein of Alum Creek; twin brother, Ronnie Thompson of Sod; sister, Dottie “Tootsie” Dunlap of Sod; and a host of friends.

Services will be 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 21, 2007 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, with Pastors Frank Chapman and Richard McCallister officiating. Burial will be held in Lively Cemetery, Sod. Friends may call on Tuesday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
