Gladys N. Holstein, 78, of McCorkle, died Sunday, November 23, 2003 at Thomas Memorial Hospital, South Charleston, after a short illness.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Laudric and two sisters, Mabel and Grace.

Gladys was a member of Cobbs Creek Missionary Baptist Church.

She is survived by her: Daughter: Sharon Madden; Sons: Mark Holstein; John Paul Holstein; 2 Grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews; Special friends, Elaine Watts and Lisa Graley.

Services will be held at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, on Wednesday, November 26, 2003 at 11:00 AM with Pastor Mike Kordusky officiating. Burial will be held in Lively Cemetery, Sod. Friends may call on Wednesday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Emory Weddington, 86, of Alkol, died Thursday, November 20, 2003 at home after a long illness.

He was preceded in death by his son, David.

He was a coal miner and an Army veteran of W WII.

He is survived by his: Daughter: Gail Stamper of Jacksonville, FL; Son: Larry of South Charleston; Sister: Bessie Clay of Julian; 12 Grandchildren; 4 Great Grandchildren; 3 Step-great grandchildren.

Services will be held at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, on Sunday, November 23, 2003 at 3:00 PM with Pastor Robert Leadman officiating. Burial with military graveside rites given by the Benny Padilla VFW Post 4768 will be held in Orchard Hills Memory Gardens, Yawkey. Friends may call on Sunday from 1 to 3 PM at the funeral home.

Dorothy R. Bell, 81, of Sproul, a precious wife, mother, “Granny” and friend, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 19, 2003 at home.

Dorothy was born on Friday, October 13, 1922 at Nellis, in Boone County, West Virginia.

She was preceded in death by her father, John Burton Chandler, mother, Grace Pearl Green Chandler, sister, Dolly Karnilla, brother, Gilbert William “Bill” Chandler, sons, Tommie Earl Bell, Conrad Wayne Bell, Ronnie Sanford Bell, John Marshall Bell, daughter, Caroline Sue Lilly, grandson, William “Billy” Angelo Bell, granddaughter, Melissa Dawn Hannan and great-grandson, Noah Meadows.

Granny Dot is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Sanford Angelo “Satchet” Bell; son, James Michael and special daughter in law, Darlene Kay Bell of Sproul; daughter, Belva Jane and son in law, David Lee Brogan of Alum Creek; daughter, Gloria Elaine and son in law, Garland Wilson Hannan of South Charleston; son in law, Franklin Gay Lilly of Alum Creek and daughter in laws, Carolyn Jane Bell of Buffalo; Jean Bell of Charleston; 21 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren; Brother, James Calvin Chandler of Chicago, IL. and sister Iris Jean Brady of St. Albans. Also many loving nieces and nephews.

Granny Dot was an active member of Hopewell Baptist Church. She retired from Kanawha County Schools with 31 years of service as a cook. She devoted many countless hours to school fund raisers, helping her neighbors, and those in need. Granny Dot loved her family and especially spending Christmas Eve with those she loved.

To her family she meant the world and her incredible spirit will be greatly missed, John 14: 1-3 “Let not your heart be troubled; Ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my fathers house aze many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you, I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go to prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself, that where I am, there ye maybe also, “Till we meet again in eternity – We love you!

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Saturday, November 22, 2003 at Hopewell Baptist Church, Alum Creek with Rev. Lloyd Humphreys officiating. Burial will be at Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes. Family will receive friends from 7 to 9 PM Friday at the Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek and one hour prior to service at the church.

Roy Norris “Mac” McCoy

Roy Norris “Mac” McCoy, 77, of St. Albans, died Monday, November 17, 2003 at CAMC Memorial Division after a long illness.

He was a retired Iron Worker from Union Boiler of Nitro and was a member of the Iron Workers Local 301.

He was preceded in death by his pazents Ernest and Ethel McCoy, and his brother, Forrest McCoy.

He is survived by: Wife: Betty (Pauley) McCoy; Son: Raymond N. of St. Albans; 3 Daughters: Barbara McCoy and Jennifer Albert both of St. Albans; Janie Blackshire of Mooresville, NC; 2 Brothers: Morris McCoy of Columbus, OH; Maxwell McCoy of Sod; 3 Sisters: Rachael Wingrove of Parkersburg; Maycel Young of Cross Lanes; Hazel Dent of Ruthdale; 3 Grandsons, 1 Granddaughter, 2 great grandsons, 2 great granddaughters.

Deborah G. “Elkins” Frazier, 50, of Hernshaw, went home to be with the Lord Friday, November 7, 2003 at the home of her mother, Dorothy Elkins of Hemshaw after a battle with cancer.

She was preceded in death by her father, Emil Elkins and sister, Patty Sue Elkins.

She was an assistant manager of the Marmet Go-Mart, a graduate of East Bank High School and was of Baptist faith.

Mary Kay Barker, 40 of So. Charleston, went home to be with the Lord, Tuesday November 4, 2003 in CAMC Memorial Division after a sudden illness.

She was an employee of CASCI of Charleston, formerly employed by Shawnee Hills of Charleston and was a member of the Hopewell Baptist Church at Alum Creek.

Mary Kay was preceded in death by her mother Jean Allison.

She is survived by her: Husband: Richard Allen “RICK” Barker; Daughter: Amanda Barker of So. Charleston; 3 Sons: Owen, Ryan and Peter Barker all of So. Charleston; Father: Kenneth Jergens of Alabama; Sister: Kathy Roberts of Georgia; 2 Brothers: David Jergens and James Allison of Georgia; Step Father: Lee Allison of Georgia; And a host of other loving family members and friends.

Shirley Elizabeth “Sis” Taylor Parsons

Shirley Elizabeth “Sis” Taylor Parsons, 66, of Charleston, passed away on Sunday, November 2, 2003 at CAMC Memorial division after a courageous battle with ovarian cancer. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She was born August 7, 1937, daughter to the late Woodrow and Veatrice Taylor of Davis Creek. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Theodore Eugene “Bug” Taylor.

Shirley was a retired cook from Kanawha County schools.

 

She is survived by her: Husband: H.L. “Joe Bob” Parsons; Daughter and son-in-law: Santa and Ed Bennett of Chazleston; Son: Bob Parsons of Charleston; Granddaughters: Beth Grass and husband, Dan of Cross Lanes; Sarah Leigh Daniel and husband, Matt of Drawdy; Great grandchildren: Billy Grass, Layne Daniel, Cassie Grass; Six sisters: Carol Gillispie, Barbara “Boodle” Dixon, Audrey Shrewsbury, Mary “Merce” Dolin, Marta “Tidd” Pauley, Anita “Dee Dee” Thomas; Brother: Woodrow “Woody” Taylor; Shirley is also survived by 76 nieces and nephews, many other family members and many good friends.

Mildred Ann Hudson

Mildred Ann Hudson, 81, of South Charleston went home to be with the Lord Saturday, November 1, 2003 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Huntington.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lyle, a brother, Buckey Kincaid, and a half-sister, Mary Willard.

Mildred was a loving mother, a devout Christian and member of Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday school teacher.

She is survived by five daughters, Sue DeBord and Mary Jo Meadows both of Charleston, Sharon Davis of Pennsylvania, Judy Klug of Wheeling, Christina Stover of Huntington; son, John Lyle Hudson of Charlotte, North Carolina; one sister, Juanita Jennings of Charleston; seven grandchildren, Jeff and Lisa Davis, Christopher and David Klug, Sarah and Joey Stover and Andrew Lewis. Lifelong friend Lorraine George and loving sister-in-law, Helen Goff Carver.

Services will be 12:00 noon on Tuesday, November 4, 2003 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Pastor Keith Hudson officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Memorial Park, South Charleston. Friends may call form 7 to 9 PM on Monday at the funeral home.

Ernie Ray Justice, Sr., 70, of Sumerco, went home to be with the Lord Thursday, October 30, 2003 at Thomas Memorial Hospital after a long illness.

He was retired from Hobet Mining Co. at Julian, a member of Eden Baptist Church, Griffithsville a Korean waz veteran and was preceded in death by two sons Dwayne and Darrell.

He is survived by his: Wife: Loleta; 4 Daughters: Mona Light and Fiance, Aazon Hyer of Dunkirk, IN; Norma Loveless and husband, Dwayne of Albany, IN; Teresa Wilkerson and husband, Mazk of Hartford City, IN; Melissa Loftis and husband, Troy of Sumerco, W V; 2 Sons: Ernie Justice, Jr. and wife, Paula of McCorkle, WV; Mark Justice of Hartford City, IN; 4 Sisters: Mable Loftis and Artina Pauley both of Sumerco, WV; Vada Pauley of Parkersburg, WV; Margie McCallister of Alabama; 4 Brothers: Boyd, Kessell and Okie Justice all of Sumerco, WV; Londis Justice of Griffithsville, WV; 13 Grandchildren 4 Great Grandchildren and a host of friends.

Kathryn Elizabeth Schmidt, 17, of South Charleston died Wednesday, October, 29, 2003 as a result of injuries sustained in a single car accident near Willow Drive at Ruth.

She was a senior honor student at George Washington High School, member of Young Life and Maranatha Fellowship in St. Albans, American Saddlebred Horse Association and The USA Equestrian Association. She was an accomplished horse rider and animal lover.

Kathryn was survived by her: Parents: Dr. John H. and Mary Alice Schmidt; Brother: John Tristan Schmidt; Great Grandmother: Marie Whitlock; Grandfather: Marvin Roberts and wife, Rosemary Great Grandfather: Freeman Bell; Uncle: Mark Roberts and his wife, Mary Ann and daughter Maria; Aunts and Uncles: John Paul Schmidt and wife, Jan; Jim Schmidt and wife, Faith; Tom and Sara, Georgi and husband, Myles Still and Bill Schmidt and many cousins; Left behind: Boyfriend and lifelong best friend, Josh Bowers and many loving friends.
