ROGER RAY LOVEJOY, 44, OF ALUM CREEK DIED TUESDAY, AUGUST 27, 1996 WHEN HE WAS PINNED BENEATH A TRACTOR HE WAS DRIVING ON A FARM NEAR THE INTERSECTION OF BULGER AND FRANK FORK ROADS IN LINCOLN COUNTY.
HE WAS AN EMPLOYEE OF ASHLAND COAL COMPANY, INC., HOBET MINE, AND HE ALSO WAS AN ENTREPRENEUR AND CO-OWNER OF MIDWAY MART ASHLAND IN ALUM CREEK. HE WAS A MEMBER ACTIVELY INVOLVED IN THE MASONIC LODGE OF GRIFFITHSVILLE, THE SCOTTISH RITE, BENI KEDEM SHRINE AND THE ROYAL ORDER OF JESTERS IN CHARLESTON. HE ALSO WAS A PRESIDENTIAL APPOINTEE TO THE SELECTIVE SERVICE COMMITTEE, ACTIVE IN THE REPUBLICAN PARTY AND A U.S. ARMY VETERAN WHO SERVED IN THE VIETNAM WAR. HE WAS A FORMER LINCOLN COUNTY SUPERINTENDENT FOR THE DEPARTMENT OF HIGHWAYS. HE EARNED HIS BACHELORS IN MANAGEMENT FROM WEST VIRGINIA STATE COLLEGE AND HE WAS A GRADUATE OF THE CLASS OF 1969 FROM DUVAL HIGH SCHOOL IN GRIFFITHSVILLE. HE WAS PRECEDED IN DEATH BY HIS FATHER, EMMETT R. LOVEJOY AND HIS SON JOSEPH PRESTON LOVEJOY.
HE IS SURVIVED BY HIS WIFE, PAM; 1 SON: RAY LOVEJOY OF MORGANTOWN, WV; MOTHER: ESTHER LOVEJOY OF ALUM CREEK, WV; 1 SISTER: MARY ANN LOVEJOY REBHAN OF ALUM CREEK, WV.
SERVICES WILL BE HELD AT THE ALUM CREEK CHURCH OF CHRIST ON FRIDAY, AUGUST 30, 1996 AT 11:00 AM. SPEAKERS AT THE SERVICE: DONALD BURNS, PATSY MCLAUGHLIN, JOE STEVENS, FRANK CHAPMAN. BURIAL WILL BE HELD IN ORCHARD HILLS MEMORY GARDENS IN YAWKEY WITH MASONIC GRAVESIDE RITES GIVEN BY THE GRIFFITHSVILLE LODGE AND MILITARY GRAVESIDE RITES BY THE ALUM CREEK VFW POST x`4768.
