Wallace L. “Gus” Miller

Wallace L. “Gus” Miller, 82, of Alkol died Friday, September 17, 1999 at CAMC Memorial Division after an extended illness.

He was a retired construction and design foreman for Union Carbide Tech Center in South Charleston. He was a former deacon and Sunday school superintendent at Left Fork Baptist and taught the men’s Sunday school class at Sycamore Grove Baptist Church. He was a WWII Army Veteran.

He is survived by his: Wife: Emma J.; 1 Son: Gregory Miller of Alkol, WV; 1 Sister: Christine Ferrell of Alkol, WV.

Services will be 1:00 PM on Sunday, September 19, 1999 at the Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, with Pastor Bill Pistore and Pastor Randall Kinder officiating. Burial will be held in Orchard Hills Memory Gardens, Yawkey. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Ova Kidd Cawthon, 76, of South Charleston died Saturday, September 11, 1999 at home after a long illness.

She was a member of the Spring Hill Baptist Church.

She is survived by her: Husband: Earl R. Cawthon; 1 Daughter: Debbie Hanson of South Charleston, WV; 1 Sister: Murl Paxton of Alpharetta, GA; 2 Brothers: M. Joe Kidd of South Charleston, WV; Kenneth Kidd of South Charleston, WV; 1 Granddaughter: Angie Diehl of Rome, GA; 2 Great Granddaughters: Taylor and Natalee.

Services will be held at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, on Monday, September 13, 1999 at 2:30 PM with Pastor Dennis Barnhart officiating. Burial will be held in Forks of Coal Memorial Park, Alum Creek. Friends may call 1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Carter C. Ruby

Carter C. Ruby, 78, of Sod died Friday, September 10, 1999 at Thomas Memorial Hospital, South Charleston after a short illness.

He was a retired iron worker, a member of UMW District 17, a member of Elizabeth Baptist Church, Garretts Bend, a life long resident of Lincoln County and a WWII Army veteran. He was preceded in death by his son, Robert Ruby.

He is survived by his: Wife: Barbara Ann Ruby; 2 Sons: Frank Ruby of NC; Richard Ruby of Sod, WV; 2 Daughters: Carol Newcomer of Alum Creek, WV; Anita Holton of Salt Rock, WV; 1 Sister: Hazel Tackett of Hurricane, WV; 5 Grandchildren; 1 Great Grandson.

Services will be held at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, on Monday, September 13, 1999 at 11:30 AM with Pastor Clarence Hutton and Pastor Larry Johnson officiating. Burial will beheld in Lively Cemetery, Sod. Friends may call on Sunday, September 12, 1999 from 6 to 8 PM at the funeral home.

Charles Henry Gillispie, 67, of South Charleston died Monday, September 6, 1999 at home after a long illness.

He was a retired truck driver for Chemical Leaman Tank Lines at Institute, a member of Hopewell Baptist Church South Charleston and Teamsters Local 175 Charleston for 29 years. He also was a Army veteran and a life long resident of Kanawha County.

He is survived by his: Wife: Kay; 2 Sons: Charles Gillispie of South Charleston, WV; Nathan Gillispie of South Charleston, WV; 1 Daughter: Teresa Barnhart of Dunbar, WV; 1 Step Son: Larry Baxter of North Carolina; 1 Step Daughter: Anna Spencer of Sissonville, WV; 3 Grandchildren, 4 Step Grandchildren and 2 Step Great Grandchildren.

Services will be held at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, on Wednesday, September 8, 1999 at 11:00 AM With Pastor Lloyd Humphreys officiating. Burial will be held in Forks of Coal Memorial Pazk, Alum Creek. Friends may call on Tuesday, September 7, 1999 from 6 to 8 PM at the funeral home. She was retired from the West Virginia State Health Department, was a member of the first graduating class of Washington District High School in 1933, was a charter member of the Hilltop Missionary Baptist Church, South Charleston, a member of the Dunbar Eastern Star Chapter 133 and was a life long resident of Kanawha county.

She is survived by her: 1 Son: Delmar Joe Kinder of Columbus, OH; 2 Daughters: Francis Marie Kinder at home; Charlotte Robbins of Charleston, WV; 1 Brother: Dr. Ross Childress of South Charleston, WV; 1 Sister: Jean Boone of Toledo, OH; 4 Grandchildren: Joni Zwick, Troy Mynes, Jeni Vaught, Rebecca Mynes Robbins; 5 Great Grandchildren; Caregiver and friend: Shelbie Blankenship of Alum Creek, WV.

Charles H. Pauley, 75, of Alum Creek died Friday, August 13, 1999 in VA Medical Center, Huntington, after a short illness.

He was a former employee of the Kanawha County Board of Education, a member and song leader of Hopewell Baptist Church, Alum Creek, and an Army veteran of World War II. He was a charter member of Alum Creek VFW Post 4768, where he served as chaplain.
