Edith Pearl Stover

Stover, EdithEdith Pearl Stover, 96, of Charleston went home to be with the Lord Friday, March 4, 2016 at Hospice West, South Charleston.

She was a member of Ivy Dale Baptist Church and also loved to work in her garden and can.

Edith was preceded in death by her husband, Delmer L. “Smokey” Stover; infant son, Billy Ray Stover; parents, Arthur and Louisa Hudson; and 4 brothers and 2 sisters.

She is survived by son, Earl (Sue) Stover; daughter, Karen (Fred) Akers; grandsons, Tim and Todd Stover and  Jon and  Chris Akers; step grandsons, Johnnie and Gary Shamblin; 3 great grandchildren and one step great granddaughter.

Service will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 7, at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with  Pastor Mike Long and Ron McClung officiating. and Chris Akers giving the eulogy.    Burial will follow at French Cemetery, Davis Creek.  The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

The family would like to express a special thank you to the staffs at Valley Transitional Unit at Valley Center and Hospice West.

After a short, courageous battle with cancer, Mary B. Rader of Dunbar died Wednesday, March 2, 2016 at the Hubbard House at the age of 62 with her daughter by her side.

She leaves behind her children Angel Miller-Nantell (Michael Nantell) and Jason Winnell (Sang Ah Koh). Grandchildren; Justin, Haley & Madison Miller and Tyler, Nathan & Isabelle Nantell.

Mary was born on June 26, 1953 in South Charleston, WV, to father Harold Thornton & mother Frances Thornton  who predeceased her. She grew up in a loving home with 4 brothers; Chester Thornton (Janet), Douglas Thornton (Phyllis), William Thornton & Timothy Thornton.
She enjoyed various crafts, gardening, traveling and exploring. She will be forever remembered by her many friends for her love, loyalty & sense of humor. She was employed by West Virginia Housing Development Fund since 2003. Previous employment includes BB&T, One Valley Bank, Atlantic Financial & Magnet Bank.

Mary requested to be cremated and a “Celebration of Life” Service will be held at Curry Funeral Home 4:00pm Sunday, March 13, 2016.  In lieu of flowers, family requests donations be made to Hospice Care, 1606 Kanawha Blvd., W., Charleston, WV 25387-2536.

Eileen Shaffer

Eileen ShafferEileen Shaffer, 78, of Alum Creek, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 2, 2016 at CAMC-General.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lonnie,  parents Ernest & Effie Steele and sisters Velma (Nan) Staats and Linda Paul.

She was a member of Hopewell Independent Missionary Baptist Church.

She is survived by son: Jackie (Sharon) Blankenship, Alum Creek; step-daughter: Carolyn VanCamp, Greenville, VA; step-son: Rob Shaffer, Quantico, VA and former daughter-in-law Sandra Shaffer; brothers: Donnie Steele, Alum Creek and Stanley (Carol) Steele, Woodbridge, VA; grandchildren: Deanna, Ann, Leigh and Tristan and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be 1:00PM Saturday, March 5, 2016 at Curry Funeral Home Chapel, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek with Pastor Dwight McClure officiating. Burial will follow at Hudson Cemetery, Alum Creek.  Visitation will be 6:00 – 8:00pm Friday, March 4th.

In lieu of flowers family requests contributions be made to Hopewell Independent Missionary Baptist Church, P.O. Box 518, Alum Creek, WV 25003.

The family would like to send a special thanks to the doctors and nurses on 4-South at CAMC-General Division who provided her care and family support; especially to Dr. Collins for her care and support.  Many thanks to special friends Sue Eskew, Jean Bell, Nancy Means and Joyce Bailey.

Nora Mae Moore

Nora Mae MooreNora Mae Moore, 81, of Mechanicsburg, PA., formerly of South Charleston, passed away Thursday, February 25, 2016 at Messiah Nursing Home Mechanicsburg, PA .

She was born May 12, 1934 to the late Lester E. and Mary V. Gardner Moore.

Nora was known in her Springhill community as “the girl on the bicycle”.  She was a volunteer at the YMCA for 30 years.

She is survived by her cousins, Faynelle Evans of Mechanicsburg, PA, and Wayne Newland of Maine.

A memorial service will be held 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 24, 2016 at the Church of Christ, 309 – 4th Avenue, South Charleston, where she was a member for many years.

 

Forest Ray Burdette

Forest BurdetteForest Ray Burdette, 94, of South Charleston passed away  on Monday, February 29, 2016 at Hospice West in South Charleston.

Forest was retired from Libby Owens Ford.    He was an avid horse lover and blacksmith; and formerly attended Davis Creek Church of the Nazarene.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Vera; and parents, Sylvester and Lena Burdette.

Forest dearly loved his family and is survived by his daughter, Lena (Rodney “Tiny”) Carter with whom he resided in his latter years; sons, Danny (Sandy), Dennis (Cindy) and Tim (Lori) all of South Charleston; sisters, Macel Bailes, Thelma (Rev. Benny) Pauley and Frances (Bob) Buckland; brother, Orville (Altha) Burdette; 10 grandchildren, several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.

Service will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, March 4, 2016 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Pastor Sandy Burdette officiating.  Burial will follow at Graceland Memorial Park, South Charleston.  The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

 

Gene Lee Williams

Gene Williams PhotoGene Lee Williams, 89, of Charleston, WV, went home to meet the Lord on Sunday, February 28, 2016, after a short illness.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Rev. Arch R. & Edna Williams, maternal mother Gladys, brother Arch “Denver” Williams and son, Michael Lee Williams.

He was retired salesman from Purity Bakery Company.  He was a member of Bible Baptist Church in Charleston, member of Charleston Masonic Lodge AF & AM, Scottish Rite and Beni Kedem Shrine Temple.  He served in the US Navy during WWII on the USS Baltimore and USS Bristol witnessing Japan signing their surrender.

He is survived by his brother: Paul Ray Williams, Raleigh, NC, and nephews Paul Eugene of Texas, Gary of Cross Lanes, Joey of Charleston and Paul T. Williams of Winfield and niece, Sharon Wigglesworth of Cross Lanes and his long-time friend and caregiver Jack Bossie.

Services will be 2:00pm Thursday, March 3rd at Curry Funeral Home Chapel, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek with Pastor Rodney Smith officiating. Burial with Masonic graveside rites will follow at Forks of Coal Memorial Park, Alum Creek.  Visitation will be from 2 hours prior to the service.

 

Jimmy Kinder

He is survived by his sons: Little Jimmy and Richard Kinder; dad & stepmother: David (Joy) Kinder; sister: Laura Ellis and six grandchildren.

Service will be 2:00pm Wednesday, February 24, 2016 at Curry Funeral Home Chapel, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek, with Deacon Eddie Wright officiating.  Burial will follow at Estep-Kinder Cemetery, Ridgeview.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

 

 

 

Janet Louise (Loftis) McClure

Janet McClureJanet Louise (Loftis) McClure, 64, of Sumerco, beloved wife of Pastor Dwight L. McClure,  went home  to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 21, 2016 at Hospice West after a 3 1/2 year battle with IPF.

She was preceded in death by her dad, Oval R. Loftis.  Janet was a Christian for 49 years and a member of Hopewell Independent Missionary Baptist Church where she sang in the choir.  Most that heard her sing could not believe that such a loud voice could come out of such a small body.  She also served as the Director of Ladies Celebration, VBS Director, taught Sunday School and VBS and helped with the Missions Conferences.

Janet was greatly loved and was loved by all the church family, especially the children.  The kids loved to see if they were “as tall as Mrs. Janet.”

She will be greatly missed by her husband of 47 years, the love of her life and sweetheart since she was 12 years old, Dwight L. McClure; her beloved daughter and best friend, Nancy (Tim) Dunlap; granddaughter, Raygan Joy Dunlap (Mimi and Papaw’s pride and joy); mother and stepdad, Judy and Bob Pauley; brother, Stacy (Pam) Loftis; sisters, Gail (Ronnie) Thompson, Loretta (Charlie) Taylor and Margo (Jackie) Miller; God-daughter, Laura (Eric) Akers; God-son, Alan Miller; many nieces and nephews that she loved like her own; special friend, Ann Gillispie; and her church family along with a great host of neighbors and friends.

The family would especially like to thank Betsy and Obed Gillenwater, Carletta and Gary Hollandsworth, George and Sharon Hughes, Chris and Dennie Brunetti and Dale and Debbie Cable.

Service will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2016 at Hopewell Independent Missionary Baptist Church, Alum Creek (located at Corridor G and Brounland Road) with Pastor Jackie Miller, Evangelist Dale Cable and Craig Gillenwater officiating.  Burial will follow at Moore Cemetery, Sumerco.  The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to her favorite mission, H.E.L.P.s, c/o Hopewell Independent Missionary Baptist Church, P.O. Box 518, Alum Creek, WV  25003.

 

Glenda J. Roberts

Glenda RobertsGlenda J. Roberts, 77, of Brounland Road, Alum Creek  went home to be with the Lord Sunday, February 14, 2016 at Thomas Memorial Hospital, South Charleston.

She was a kind, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister.  Glenda was a lifelong member of Olcott Church of God.  She loved to read her Bible and enjoyed Sunday dinners with her family.

Welcoming Glenda to Heaven are her parents, Robert and Ethel Dunlap; brothers, Rev. Dennis, Delbert and James Dunlap; sisters, Marcella Dunlap and Ruth Griffith; husband, Richard; and granddaughter, Keri L. Holstein.

Left to cherish her memory are her loving children, Ricky Roberts, Jr., Debbie (Gary) Holstein, Randy Roberts, Mark (Ashley) Roberts; grandchildren, Erin (Michael) Graley, Teresa Whitlock, Josh Clendenin (Jessica Shamblen); great grandchildren, who were the twinkle in her eye,  Anthony Whitlock, Aspyn Graley, Reyce Clendenin, and baby girl, Ryleigh arriving in March; and sister, Betty Webb.

Service will be 1:00 pm Friday, February 19, 2016 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Pastor Mike Graley and Jimmy Webb officiating.  Burial will follow at Grandview Memorial Park, Dunbar.  The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

 

Averial Dean Ellis

Averal EllisAverial Dean Ellis, 78 of Hewett, WV passed away on February 14, 2016 at Logan Center Nursing and Rehab.

He was born January 24, 1938 at Meadow Fork on Hewett Creek in the same house in which he last resided, a son of the late Cebert Lowell Ellisand Clarissa Gaynell Hager Ellis. He grew up on Missouri Fork leaving for the factories of Ohio at the age of 16.

Averial was a veteran of the United States Army and was very proud of his service. Averal spent most of his working life at Chicago Metallic in Chicago, Illinois later working as a security guard at Black’s Foodland in Madison.

Averial was preceded in death by his brothers, Kenneth , Ivan, Joseph and infant Richard Dale, sisters Jo Ann Craddock, Thelma Jean Craddock, Edith Spencer and Rebecca Hintz.

He is survived by Christopher Pauley who he raised as a son and loved beyond measure, one sister Sally MacRae of Florida, Beverly and Ralph Caudill, Paulette and Danny Dolan and many other nieces and nephews and a host of other family and friends.

Graveside service will be at 1:00 PM Saturday February 20, 2016 at the Ellis Cemetery on Missouri Fork of Hewett Creek with Ralph Caudill officiating.

Visitation will be at Spencer Methodist Church, Meadow Fork at Hewett, WV from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Friday February 19, 2016.
