Ricky E. Marker

Ricky MarkerRicky E. Marker, 56, of South Charleston, WV went to be with the Lord Tuesday, September 29, 2015 at CAMC Memorial Hospital in Charleston after a short illness.

He was vice president of Garcie R. Marker & Sons, Inc.  He was a tireless worker and hardly ever took a day off work.  Ricky was a mediator, always wanting to make peace and a 1977 graduate of George Washington High School.

Ricky was a friend to everyone, he loved spending time with his dogs. He loved riding dirt bikes with his friends, known as “The Brier Creek Ruff Riders”,  and until recently never missed a Sunday riding.  Ricky loved riding the Olcott trails, helping name two of the trails: The Red Fender Hill, where he lost his red fender, and also Rick’s Pipeline.  It was his desire that his remains be placed on these trails.  Rick had a witty sense of humor, a unique voice and memorable laugh.  He was a meticulous record keeper, having lists and notes for everything.  Rick loved to fish and frequented most of the small privately-owned ponds in the Alum Creek area.

He is survived by his companion of 18 years, Heidi Stoeke; son, Michael Ball (Chrissy Cochran); parents, Garcie and Geraldine Marker; brothers, Allen (Tami) Marker and Steven  Marker (Laura Stover); nieces, Autumn Humphreys, McKenzie Marker and Stevie-Lynn  Marker; and nephew, Seth Marker.

A memorial service will be 7:00 p.m. Friday, October 2, 2015 at Curry Funeral Home in Alum Creek with Pastor Ron Scott officiating.  The family will receive friends 2 hours prior to the service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the Kanawha-Charleston Humane Association, 1248 Greenbrier Street, Charleston, WV  25311.

Phyllis Jean Hinkle

Phyllis HinklePhyllis Jean Dolin Hinkle, 67, of Costa, WV, passed away at home on Friday, September 25, 2015 from an extended illness with her family by her side.

She was a strong, loving, and beautiful faithful servant of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  Phyllis was always there for everyone thru sickness and health, no matter what pain she was going thru herself.  She loved and prayed for everyone daily and now her journey here has ended and she is flying high!  No more pain and sorry, she is with her beloved eldest son, Phillip R. Lovejoy; parents, John and Irene Dolin; Jamie, Lilly Gail, Timmy, Kevin Wayne and all our family members in heaven.  Oh, just think what a reunion that is.  Someday we will be together again, our journey will continue here on earth until then R.I.P.

Phyllis leaves behind her loving family, son, Scott Douglass and Abbigail Lovejoy of Costa; daughters, Tammy Lovejoy of Costa, Jessica Hinkle and Evan of Charleston; grandchildren, Matthew, Jacy, Zachary, Eric, Josh, and Elizabeth Lovejoy and Shylowe (Macks) Lilly; great grandchildren, Cameron, Steven, Megan, Frannie, Chase, Noah, Booboo, Lulu, and Little Zach; siblings, Johnny Dolin of Roane Co., Hank Dolin of Ridgeview, Pete Dolin of Camp Creek Steve Dolin of Roane Co., Connie (Susie) McClain, Alice (Midge) Dolin of Madison and Shirley Holstine of Rock Creek.

Her request was to be cremated and a memorial service will be held at a later date.

The family would like to thank Hospice for their support and care, especially our cousin, Sally Dolin Starkey (RN).   She has been a blessing to our family and is loved very, very much as she was there for our mother, Irene Dolin and also Jamie Egnor.   We can never thank you enough Sally.   Also a special thank you to Jack (RN) for your support.

Phyllis will forever be in our hearts and will be sadley missed by all who knew her.

Clarence Edward “Moon” Myers

Clarence Myers

Clarence Edward “Moon” Myers, 63, of Alum Creek went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, September 23, 2015 at Hubbard Hospice West at Thomas Hospital in South Charleston.

He was a cable lineman for years and also preached and pastored at several area churches.

Moon was preceded in death by his parents, John and June Myers, and uncle, James Howard Priestley.

He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Jo; daughters, Davena (Jimmy) Hughes and Elizabeth (Paul) Rucker; grandchildren, Cory, Shantel and Kiarra Sigmon; great grandson, Qynton Sigmon; and brothers, Johnny and Rodney Myers.

Service will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, September 25th at Curry Funeral Home in Alum Creek with Pastor Frank Chapman officiating.  Burial will follow at Priestley Cemetery.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Dorcas W. Adams

CaptureDorcas W. Adams, 79, of Julian went home to be with the Lord Sunday, September 20, 2015 at    Hillcrest Health Care in Danville.

She was a member of Olive Branch Baptist Church.

Dorcas was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Burchel Woodrum; sister, Wanda Edwards; and daughter, Patricia McCallister.

She is survived by her husband  of 60 years, Chester; son, Greg (Carol Gee) Adams; and sister, Louise (Ben) Pauley.

Service will be 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 22, at Curry Funeral  Home in Alum Creek with Pastor Oshel Bell officiating.   Burial will follow at Orchard Hills Memory Gardens.  The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

 

Vaden Kyle Loftis

Vaden LoftisVaden Kyle Loftis, 88. of Charleston passed away Sunday, September 13, 2015 at Dunbar Center after a long illness.

He was head produce clerk at Kroger with 32 years service.  He was a U. S. Navy veteran of  WW II and the Korean War; and  also a member of the American Legion in Dunbar.

Vaden was preceded in death by his parents, Omer and Sylvia Loftis;  step-son, Rodney Loftis and grandson, Matthew.

He is survived by his companion of 47 years, Jo Ann Richardson; daughter, Judith Mullen; sons, Robert Kyle (Wendy) Loftis; Gregory Dee (Ruthie) Loftis; Benjamin (Regina) Loftis and Gary Wayne (Sandy) Loftis; 6 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 16, at Curry Funeral Home in  Alum Creek with Pastor Art Hage officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery.   The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family request contributions be made to HospiceCare, 1606 Kanawha Blvd., W., Charleston, WV  25387-2536.

Margaret E. Madden

Margaret E. Madden, 78, of Charleston, went home to the Lord Thursday, September 11, 2105 at CAMC Memorial Division.

She was born in Lincoln County to Paul and Zoe Brogan Madden.

Margaret went to school in Lincoln County.  She was a former employee of Putnam County Aging and attended the First Church of Nazarene in Hurricane.

She was preceded in death by two sons, William Rocky Pauley and Dennis “Rusty” Pauley.

She is survived by daughters, Jacqueline Adams and Twila LaBar; sons, Mark D. Pauley  and Brian K. Pauley; brother, Dennis Madden; half-brother, Roger Madden; half-sister, Linda Freeman; 8 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren who all adored her.

Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. Monday, September 14, at Curry Funeral Home in Alum Creek with Pastor Frank Chapman officiating.  Burial will follow in Cunningham Memorial Park in St. Albans.  The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service.

Margaret had eyes that saw the best in people, a heart that forgave the worst, a mind that forgot the bad and a soul that never lost faith in God.

Ernest Ray Pauley

Ernest PauleyErnest Ray Pauley, 88, of Dunbar went home to the Lord Thursday, September 10, 2015 at Thomas Memorial Hospital in South Charleston.

He was a WWII Army Veteran.  He worked as a butcher for Gunnoe’s Country Sausage and later was the owner of Pauley’s Grocery in Charleston.  Ernest was a member and also one of the founders of Mountain Heights Church in South Charleston where he served as a Sunday School Superintendent, deacon and Sunday School teacher.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Lola Bell Pauley; great grandsons, Jaykob Carter and Jonathan Michael Moles; three sisters and one brother.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Mary; daughters, Sharon (Mike) Moles, Deborah (Jim) Elzey, Cathy Pauley and Rhonda (Mark) Hunt; son, Steve (Mary) Pauley; sisters, Joyce Griffith and Linda Bailey; 11 Grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.

Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, September 12th, at Curry Funeral Home in Alum Creek with Pastors Benny Pauley and Walter Allen officiating.  Burial will follow at Graceland Memorial Park with military graveside rites conducted by the St. Albans VFW Post 6418 and the American Legion Post 73.   The family will receive friends 2 hours prior to the service at the funeral home.

Evelyn Maxine Teel

EVELYN TEELEvelyn Maxine Teel, 84, of Charleston went to be with her loved ones who have passed on, Wednesday, September 2, 2015.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Pam Sigmon, son, Alan Teel and husband, Ira Teel and also her parents and three brothers.

She was a member of the Moose Lodge in Charleston.

She was a loving wife and mother and is survived by her daughter, Terri (Mark) Tribble, Charleston; brother & sister-in-law, David Lee (Jeanie) Wright, who were a wonderful help with Mom’s care; half-brother, Pierre Wright; two half-sisters, Mookie and Tammy; two grandsons, Troy Ratcliff and Codey Tribble; and  four great-grandchildren.  Evelyn will also be sadly missed by many other family and friends.

Services will be 1:00pm Saturday, September 5, 2015 at Curry Funeral Home Chapel, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.  Burial will follow at Graceland Memorial Park, South Charleston.

Vernard “Bernie” Emerson McCormick

Vernard McCormick

Vernard “Bernie” McCormick, 84 of Sod, formerly of Woodville, left this world to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, August 28, 2015 at Valley Health Center in Spring Hill.  He is preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Olive Neal McCormick.  He is survived by his sister, Sussie McCormick Pauley; his three sisters in law, Nancy M. McCormick, Peggy McCormick and Madeline McCormick; and his fourteen nieces and nephews.

It was Vernard’s request that there would be no services.  His final resting place will be at Pauley Family Cemetery in Joe’s Creek, WV.
