Virginia Ann Withrow Arrington

Virginia Ann Withrow Arrington, 80, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, October 7, 2017.

Virginia was born October 10, 1936, in Clendenin to the late William A. and Nettie Hively Withrow.  She graduated from Clendenin High School in 1955.

Virginia was a homemaker.  She worked tirelessly for her family and spent much of her time caring for her grandchildren, sewing, gardening, refinishing furniture, and she and Glenn worked side by side building homes.

She was united in marriage to Glenn Allen Arrington on June 9, 1969.  They were married for 44 years until his passing in 2011.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Willard, “Cotton” and Art Withrow as well as her sister, Juanita Smith.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Bonita (Buddy) McClure of Alkol, Lori (Allen) Smith and Lynn (John) Reynolds of Alum Creek  She was better known as Mamaw Gin to her  seven grandchildren, Amber Holestin, T.J. Meadows, Zeke, Levi and Caleb Smith, Sam and William Reynolds and four great-grandchildren, Dalton and Daniel Holestin, Katie and Zander Meadows, her sister, Doris “Boot” (Brice) Abbott and her best friend Ellie Henson.

Service will be 1:00pm Saturday, October 14, 2017 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, with Pastor Frank Chapman officiating.  She will be laid to rest with the ashes of her loving husband in Forks of Coal Memorial Park, Alum Creek. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

 

Teddy Joe Smith

Teddy Joe Smith, 57, of Sod went to be with the Lord Thursday, October 5, 2017 at Hubbard Hospice House in Charleston with his family by his side.

He was a former employee of JIMCO Supply, John Henry Rock Drills, Caterpillar, Ingersol Rand and Atlas Copco.

Teddy served in the U. S. Army and the Air National Guard and recently came to know Christ as his personal savior.

He was preceded in death by his father, Burnie Smith and mother-in-law, Isabell Jones.

Teddy is survived by his wife of 35 years, Teresa; daughter, Crystal (Jason); son, Morgan (Amanda); grandchildren, Braelyn and Ryker; mother, Norma Smith; father-in-law, Paul Jones; brothers, Carl (Gail), Terry (Melody), Anthony (Joyce), Charles, and Curtis (Heather) Smith; sister, Katherine Heinaman; and a host of nieces, nephews, loving family and friends.

Service will be 1:00 p.m. Monday, October 9, at Curry Funeral Home in Alum Creek with Pastor Frank Chapman and Dakota Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery, Sumerco. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

 

 

 

Judith A. Loftis Pauley

Judith A. Loftis Pauley, 83, of Yawkey went to be with the Lord Thursday, October 5, 2017 at home with her family by her side.

She was a retired supervisor at Kanawha Janitorial Service.

Judith was a former member of Joes Creek Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Oval Loftis; parents, Rocky and Stella Woodrum; daughter, Janet McClure; brothers, Boyd, Dee, Dolly and Hassel Woodrum; and sisters, Marlene Miller, Zella McCallister and Ruby Cummings.

Judith is survived by her husband of 15 years, Robert; children, Loretta (Charlie) Taylor, Gail (Ronnie) Thompson and Stacy (Pam) Loftis; son-in-law, Pastor Dwight McClure; stepchildren, Cindy (Dave) Swan, Isalene (Jerry) Runion and Robert (Jessie) Pauley, Jr;  brother, John (Margaret) Woodrum; sister, Chrstine Wilson; 5 grandchildren, Leslie Matheny, Nancy Dunlap, Teresa Vickers, C.B. Bragg and Terry Thompson; 9 great grandchildren; and special friends, Hope and Buddy Coleman and Patricia Grass.

Service will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, October 8, at Curry Funeral Home in Alum Creek with Pastors Dwight McClure, Frank Chapman and Craig Gillenwater officiating. Burial will follow in the Moore Cemetery, Sumerco. The family will receive friends Saturday from 6 – 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

James Frank Cash

James Frank Cash, Sr., 69, of St. Albans, went home to be with the Lord after a long illness on Wednesday, October 4, 2017.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Reba Mae, son, James Franklin Cash, Jr., granddaughter, Crystal Cash, parents, Homer & Elizabeth  Cash, and brother, Charles.

He worked in construction and was a truck driver for Smith Transfer and WV Paving.

He is survived by his son, Johnny (Cindy) Cash, daughter, Buffy (Steve) Thomas, brothers, John (Shirley) Cash and Homer Cash, six grandchildren, Jimmy, Kristen, Cassidy, Andy, Jacob, and Abby, four great-grandchildren, Wyatt, Dylan, Karma, and Lilly.

Service will be 2:00 pm Saturday, October 7th at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, with Pastors Earl Cochran and Frank Chapman officiating.  Burial will follow at Forks of Coal Cemetery, Alum Creek.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

 

Vallie F. Holstein Turley

Vallie F. Holstein Turley, 84, of Charleston went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 1, 2017, after a long illness.

She is preceded in death by her husband, George, and son, Tim Turley and siblings, Jackie, Macel, Juanita, and Ramona.  She was the daughter of the late Isaac Jackson Holstein II and Edith Rathburn Holstein.

She was a former member of Brier Creek Baptist Church.  She was a retired teacher’s aid, and worked in both Jackson and Kanawha Counties.  She was best known for her loving hospitality, generosity and kindness, and also for being a great cook.

She is survived by her daughter, Debbie (Jeff) Haught, and son, Curtis Turley, sisters, Connie Parsons and Zona Linville, brothers, Gene, Murl, Doug and Roger Holstein, and grandchildren, Brendan and Kate Rainey, Kevin and Richard Simmons, Jamie, Matt, Michael and Michelle Turley, and a large and loving extended family.

Service will be 2:00pm Thursday, October 5, 2017, at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, with Pastor Tommy Roberts officiating.  Burial will follow at Graceland Memorial Park.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.Special thanks to the Marmet Genesis Healthcare for their loving care.

Wendelin “Wendy” Starr Worstell Bowen Kirk

Wendelin “Wendy” Starr Worstell Bowen Kirk, 63, of South Charleston, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 1, 2017, after a long courageous battle with cancer.

Wendy is preceded in death by her mommy, Norma Bowen, daddy, Eugene Worstell, three sisters, Mary Stanley, Carolyn Worstell, Lissa Eastwood, and daughter, Misti Ash.

Wendy was a great story teller and was loved by all who met her.  She will be greatly missed by her family and many friends.

She was the former owner/operator of Wendy’s Place at Sumerco, and was a loving mother, grandmother and devoted sister.

Wendy is survived by her loving husband Randy Kirk, Sr., sons, Doug Bowen and Brandon (Lenora) Bowen, Randy (Cindy) Kirk II, daughter, Cortney Kirk, ten grandchildren, Lindsay Bowen, Brandon Martin, Tearanee Bowen, Paige and Destany Nelson, Chase Bowen, Candace and Kendall Kirk, Liam and Carol Ann Kirk.  She is also survived by her brother Scott (Laurie) Worstell, and sisters, Ann Hanshaw, Donah (Steve) Brown, Marcie (Doug) Gillispie, Karrie (Paul) Lovejoy, and Twylla (Cameron) Bays.  She was the “favorite” aunt to most of her many nieces and nephews.

Memorial Service will be Thursday, 2:00 pm, October 5, 2017 at the Alum Creek Independent Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Frank Chapman officiating. In lieu of flowers family request donations toward funeral services.

Herbert Bostic

Herbert Bostic, 83, of Griffithsville went home to be with the Lord on Friday, September 29, 2017 at Thomas Memorial Hospital.He was preceded in death by his parents, George & Mazie Bostic, brother, James Corbitt Bostic, sisters, Letha Crowder and Mae Slater. He was a former coal miner and a 50-year member of Laborers Local 1353. He was a Christian and formerly attended Praise  Assembly of God. Herbert is survived by his wife of 60 years, Ollie Mae, sons, Herbert (Kim) Bostic, Jr., Terry (Denise) Bostic, Tim Bostic, Frank (Karla) Bostic and Shane Parrish, daughters, Pamela (Michael) Cooper, and Lisa Bostic and eleven grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, sister, Georgia Haynes and brother, Bob (Lilla) Bostic. Service will be 11:00 am Wednesday, October 4, 2017 at Curry Funeral Home with Pastor Oshel Bell.  Burial will follow at Lively Cemetery, Sod.   Family and friends will gather one hour prior to the service.

Kenneth Lee Vickers

Kenneth Lee Vickers, 76, of Alkol passed away unexpectedly Thursday, September 21, 2017 while working on his farm.

Kenny never met a stranger and made many close friends in his farming business during his retirement years. He worked in his early years as a sheet metal worker, then a heavy equipment operator in the coal mining reclamation.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Hal and Garnette Vickers, brother, Harry and uncle, Harvey Kelley.

Kenny is survived by his wife of 58 years, Margaret; children, Jeff (Debbie) Vickers, Monica (Joey) Linville and James Vickers; sister, Kathleen (Jim) Wadsworth; brother, Jack (Ruth) Vickers; grandchildren, Clint, Andrew, Austin, Riley, Jamie and Erica; great grandchildren, Lilly and Fallon; aunt, Wynoka Kelley and special cousin Elnorah Rivers.

Service will be 3:00 p.m. Sunday, September 24, at Curry Funeral Home in Alum Creek with Pastor Darrell Searls officiating. Burial will follow at Stone Cemetery in Alkol. The family will receive friends from 1:30 – 3:00 p.m. Sunday prior the funeral service.

Michael Thomas Baire

Michael Thomas Baire, 62, of Alum Creek went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 19, 2017, at home surrounded by his family and friends.

Mike was a truck driver for over 30 years, most recently a pickup and delivery driver for Estes Express Lines. While driving he visited 44 lower states and Canada.

He was a proud veteran having served 6 years in the U. S. Army attaining the rank of E4.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Hillard and Elma Baire; brother, Randy; and sister, Debra.

He was a devoted daddy and papa. A wonderful husband and best friend for over 42 years to his wife, Patricia Parsons Baire. Mike loved taking trips with Pattie and planned to take her on a long journey “out west” again.

Mike is also survived by daughters Andrea Dawn Jensen (Dave), Brandy Fields, Chrystal Crites (Nate); sisters Brenda (Lenzy) Meickles, Susan (Tim) Atkins, Sherry (Greg) Blake, Patricia (Brad) Rice; grandchildren Henry, Abigail, Matthew and Wesley Jensen, Shane, Donovan and Kasey Fields, Arleigh, Chrystine and Silas Crites; and his mother and father-in-law, Yvonne and Richard Harrison. He will also be greatly missed by his co-workers at Estes who considered him to be “camp counselor”.

Service will be held at noon, Friday, September 22, at Curry Funeral Home in Alum Creek with Pastor Frank Chapman officiating. Burial will follow at the Donel C. Kinnard Memorial State Veterans Cemetery in Dunbar, WV.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

James Clyde McCormick

James Clyde McCormick, 93, of Alkol went home Thursday, September 14, 2017.

He was a retired coal miner and a member of the UMWA.  Clyde was also a member of the Morrisvale Missionary Baptist Church, an avid  coon hunter and a friend to all.

Clyde was preceded in death by his parents, Kin and Vina McCormick; brothers, Harold, Tommy, Buster and Mink; sons, Norman Kyle and James Darrell McCormick; grandsons, Dwayne and Dwight McCormick; great grandchildren, Kaylee Fowler, Angela Sharps and Jobean Lipscomb.

He is survived by his wife of 75 years, Elsie Loftis McCormick and they were recognized as the longest married couple in the great state of West Virginia for the year 2017; children, Patsy McCormick, Denzil (Debbie) McCormick, Glennis (Johnny) Lipscomb, Clifford (Michele) McCormick, and Donna McCormick and her son, Christopher, who was Clyde’s partner in crime and Christopher’s wife, Ashley, who was Clyde’s personal mechanic;  daughter-in-law, Carol McCormick; brother, Delmer (Betty) McCormick; sister, Betty Jo Campbell;  additional grandchildren Elizabeth, Rebecca, Tammy, Teresa, Michele, Eric, Mindy, Myranda, Brandy, Kasey, Kayla, and Allison;  20 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren.

Service will be 1:00 p.m. Monday, September 18, 2017 at the Curry Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Butch Loftis officiating.  Burial will follow at Orchard Hills Memory Gardens.  The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
