Harold “Frank” Franklin Ruby, 71, of Hope Mills, NC passed away Monday, November 4, 2024, in his home with family by his side.

Born August 20, 1953, in Sod, WV, Frank was the son of the late Carter and Barbara Belcher Ruby. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brother, Robert Ruby and sister, Carol Newcomer.

Frank is survived by his life partner, Melanie Davis; brother, Richard Ruby and his wife Lynn; sister, Anita Holton and her husband Francis; sister-in-law, Helen Ruby; sister-in-law, Mary Hinson and her husband Danny; several nieces, nephews; and a host of other family and friends.

He was a 1971 Duval graduate, where he was an honor student and involved in athletics. Frank worked as a Plastics Technician with DuPont for 34 years before retiring. He was an avid outdoorsman and Nascar fan.

Frank will be remembered for impacting the lives of everyone he encountered. He will be deeply missed and forever cherished by all who knew and loved him.

Funeral service and entombment were held Friday, November 8, 2024, in Hope Mills, NC.

A memorial service will be 1:00pm, Saturday, December 14, 2024, at Elizabeth Baptist Church Fellowship Hall, 1532 Garretts Bend Rd, Sod, WV with Pastors Richard and Mark Ruby officiating.

Mary Frances Little

Mary Frances Little, 86, of Hamlin, WV, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, December 6, 2024, at Teays Valley Center, Hurricane, WV.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Charles Little, Sr., son, Charles “Sonny” Little, Jr., parents, Luther & Anne Marie Ward Mahone, several brothers and sisters, and grandson, Christian Dean.

Mary was a member of Sumerco Church of God, and member of the Griffithsville VFW Auxiliary, and a 1957 graduate of Duval High School. She served as a nanny for Alicia, Brittany and Catherine, children of Julie &Tom Dickie.

She is survived by her sons, Christopher A. (Nicole) Little and Charles G. (Nikki) Little, stepdaughters, Jennifer Little (Jim) McPherson and Charlene Boulianne, and Cheryl (Tommy) Miller who was like a daughter to Mary, half sister, Kathy Tolbert. She is also survived by grandchildren, Daniel Christian Thompson, Alexandria “AlIi” Little, Amanda Spangrud, Phillip Spangrud, Laura Green and Dana Main, Rebecca Main, Ethan Little, Chloe Dean, Brayden Dean, Sydney Stewart, Paige Stewart, and several great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews and cousins. Mary was also a foster mother to 84 children.

Service will be 2:00pm, Wednesday, December 11, 2024, at Curry Funeral Home with Pastor Richard McCallister officiating. Burial will follow at Lincoln Memorial Cemetery, Hamlin.

Family and friends will gather from noon to 2:00pm at the funeral home.

Carolyn Jane Abbott

Carolyn Jane Abbott, 75, of Cross Lanes passed away Friday, December 6, 2024, at home.

Carol was a graduate of George Washington High school and a former employee of Davis Creek Foodland.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Melvia Williams Hudson; son, Gregory Abbott; brothers, Gary and Chuck Hudson.

Carol is survived by her husband, Greg Abbott, daughters, Shelly (Eddie) Wikel, Cristie (Jessie) Curry; siblings, Bob (Sue) Hudson, Jim (Charla) Hudson, Mark (Robin) Hudson, Linda (Jerry) Taylor, Kevin (Shayna) Hudson; grandchildren Haley, Brett, Dakota, Dalton, Junior, Ernie, Darian, Billy, Jeremy, Destiny, Dezeria, Ella, Isaiah, Mylee; great grandchildren, Stevie, Emma, Abel, Paisley.

Funeral service will be 1:00pm, Thursday, December 12, 2024, at Curry Funeral Home with Mark Hudson officiating. Burial will follow at French Cemetery, Berry Hills Drive, Charleston. Friends and family will gather one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Tamera Gale Stone

Tamera Gale Stone, 61, of South Charleston went home to be with the Lord, Thursday, December 5, 2024, at Hubbard Hospice House West.

Tammy loved to crochet, drink coffee and Pepsi, and according to her it’s, “all about the weather.”

She was preceded in death by her father, William Elsworth Gillispie and granddaughter, Laïzyla Nicholas.

Tammy is survived by her husband, David Stone; mother, Lorraine Gillispie; children, Bobby (Laura) Nicholas, Jason (Mary) Nicholas, Christopher (Chasity) Nicholas, Angelica (Kenny) Fletcher; grandchildren, Mitchell, Noah, Chailyn, Damien, Emmalyn “Lil Bestie”, Shyann, Jaden, Ethan, Mason, Alexa, Wayne, Maddox, Kairan, Jay, Matthew, Dallas, Austin, Jaelyn, Hunter; great grandchildren, Xander and Xavier; dog, Tiki, special niece, Lynn Turley; sisters, Rosemary Williams, Diane Gravley, Barbara Hamrick, Brenda Gillispie, Robin Gillispie.

Phyllis Jean White

Phyllis Jean (Spurlock) White, from Danville, WV, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, at the age of 85, after a very courageous battle with Pancreatic Cancer.

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing” 2 Timothy 4:7-8

Phyllis was born January 2, 1939, in the little hollow of Rock Creek in Raleigh Co., WV.

Phyllis was preceded in death by many family and friends whom she is now reunited with in Heaven, mainly the love of her life, Warnie E. White and her beautiful daughter, Rhonda. Phyllis did not like to brag about things she did in life with a couple of exceptions, her children and grandchildren, whom she loved with her whole heart, and that she was a breast cancer survivor.

Those left to cherish the memory of Phyllis are her sons, Warnie G. White of Danville, WV (Terri Cox of South Charleston, WV) and Curt White of Logan, WV. Her grandchildren, Quentin Hager of Six Mile, WV, Daniel Lewis of Chapmanville, WV, Nathan White of Logan, WV, her great granddaughter, Leia Reese of St. Albans, WV, her great grandson, Owen Ferrell of Harts, WV. Frances Hall of Wharton, WV and a very special niece, whom she loved just like a daughter, Robin (Kevin) Brickell, of Dobson, NC.

There will be a visitation for family and friends at Curry Funeral Home in Alum Creek, WV on Sunday, December 8, 2024, from 1:00-2:00pm with a brief service to follow with Pastor Timothy Bleigh officiating. Burial to follow at Danville Memorial Park, Danville, WV.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests charitable donations be made in memory of Phyllis White, to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 6704, Hagerstown, MD 21741.

Terry Creech

Terry Creech, 77, of St. Albans, passed away suddenly, on Sunday, December 1, 2024.

Terry was born March 19, 1947, in Charleston, WV. He attended George Washington High School. He went to work for Carbide for 30 plus years, only to retire there. Throughout his life he shared his love for music through singing in multiple bands. He also served in the Army and was deployed to South Korea. After retirement, he became a loved and familiar face by being DJ at “Tippy’s”, formerly known as “Sandy’s,” in South Charleston, WV.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Wanda & Homer Creech.

Terry is survived by his wife, Ruby Creech; siblings, Freddy Creech and Cheryl Creech-Hawk; stepson, Richard Deer (Beth); stepdaughter, Tammy Arnold (Chuck); grandkids, Brook & Dylan Jones, Branden Deer, and Brent Deer; great grandkids, Jon Deer & Addison Deer; nieces & nephews, Josh Kyle, Heather Creech, & Charlie Morton; and his dog, Jake and cat, Fat Bob.

A memorial service in celebration of Terry’s life will be 6:00pm, Saturday, December 7, 2024, at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Barbara Jean Banks

Barbara Jean Banks, 71, of Ashford was met at Heaven’s gate by her son, T.J. and grandson, Asher on Tuesday, December 3, 2024.

Barbara was a member of Rumble Community Baptist Church. She was a loving mom, grandma, daughter, friend, and so much more. She loved her children and grandchildren beyond measure and was always there for them. When not taking care of her family, you could find her and her best friend, Betty Javins at the Goodwill thrifting. She was always doing and giving to others. “Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her.” Proverbs 31:28

She was preceded in death by her parents, Hillard and Phoeba Dunlap; son, T.J.; stepdad, Frank Carson Armstrong; and grandson, Asher.

Barbara is survived by her husband of 54 years, Tim; children, Greg (Kim) Banks, Stephanie (Eddie) Barker, and Jamie Banks; daughter-in-law, Christi Banks; sister, Rachael Pauley; half-sisters, Charlene Armstrong, Kathy Smith, and Sheila Cooper; grandchildren, Lillibeth, Isaac, Phoebe, Gracy, and Blake.

Service will be 1:00pm, Saturday, December 7, 2024, at Rumble Community Baptist Church, Ashford with Pastors Richard Harold and Randell Kinder officiating. Burial will follow at Barker Cemetery, Ashford. Friends and family will gather one hour prior to the service at the church.

Patricia Ann (Trish) Wooten

Patricia Ann (Trish) Smith Wooten, age 77, born October 24, 1947 to Inez and William Smith. She was the beloved spouse of Clyde Wooten, amazing mother to Andrea Gail Wooten Willis (Christopher), and attentive grandmother to Kevin Charles. She passed peacefully at CAMC General on Saturday, November 30th, 2024 after a very brief illness.

Known to most as a dedicated teacher, Mrs. Wooten was loved by everyone who knew her. She valued education and was the first in her family to obtain a college degree from West Virginia State College where she was a Fulbright scholar; she also went on to earn a Masters +45 in Education from West Virginia University. She was a member of the National Geographic Society. She retired from Alum Creek Elementary and continued to substitute for several years.

Her joys in life included reading, spending time with her extended family, and shopping.

Patricia was the oldest of nine children and was devoted to her family. She was preceded in death by her infant daughter (Melanie Beth), parents, her sisters Jacqueline Sue Drake, Cathey Sproles, and Sandy Bird, and her brother Willie Smith. She is survived by her sisters, Sharon Wiggin (Phillip), Carolyn Yeager (Herman), and Robin Garten, and her brother, Eric Smith (Deborah).

The family would like to extend their gratitude to the caregivers at CAMC Charleston General: nurses Brittany Friend, Rebecca Ocheltree, and Judy Love as well as Dr. Phillips (ICU) and Dr. Whaley (Neuro).

Arrangements will be handled by Curry Funeral Home in Alum Creek, WV. Visitation to be held from 6-8pm on Friday, December 6th with the funeral at 1pm Saturday, December 7th with additional visitation an hour prior.
