Wanda KeelingWanda Gaye Keeling Wood, 70, of Sod went home to be with the Lord Saturday, November 14, 2015 after a long illness.

She was a devoted Christian who loved the Lord.  She also enjoyed cooking, sewing and was an artist who loved to paint.

Gaye was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew and Alma Sovine; her first husband, William “Bill” Keeling; son, Shannon Keeling; twin brother, Clay Sovine; sister, Pauline Ferrell and great granddaughter, Khloe.

She is survived by her children, Kenneth (Lynda) Lawrence; Angela (Melvin) Schnurpel, Clifford (Carolyn) Keeling, Darrein (Trina) Keeling, LaShawna Keeling and Joseph (Ashley) Wood; sisters, Faye, Sue and Lou Linkous and Patricia Egnor; 19 grandchildren  and 22 great grandchildren who she loved spending time with; and also by her former husband, Zeke Wood.

Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 18, 2015 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Pastors Jackie Miller and Jimmy Lawrence officiating.  Burial will follow at Lively Cemetery.   The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.Tuesday at the funeral home.

The family would like to express a special Thank You to the Lincoln Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and their wonderful staff for the care of  our mother.

 

Patrick Lee Dunlap

Patrick DunlapPatrick Lee Dunlap, 64, of Sumerco, son of the Most High God, finished his journey home to be with his Father on Tuesday, November 10, 2015.   Although Pat was 64 years old, he would be the first to tell you that he didn’t really begin to live until Dec. 26, 2001, at the age of 50 when he gave his heart and life to the Lord.    He was still a member of Grace Freewill Baptist Church, Albion, MI and was currently attending New Covenant Baptist Church Alum Creek, WV.

He was employed by the Steel Mill Industry.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Noah & Neva Dunlap; brother, Teddy Akers; sister, Carol Wheeler.

He is survived by his best friend and wife, Pam, his children: Shannon (Pete) Thompson; Jeremy (Jenny) Angel and John Angel; brothers: Tim (Patty) Dunlap and Mickey (Linda) Akers; grandchildren: Patrick, Abby & Ryan; and one great-grandson: Aiden.

Service will be 3:00pm on Saturday, November 14, 2015 at the Curry Funeral Home Chapel, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek with Pastor Earl Martin officiating.  Visitation will be 1:00 – 3:00 pm prior to the service.

Portlee ClarkA. Portlee Clark, 71, of Alum Creek went home to be with the Lord and see her son, Tracy, Tuesday, November 10, 2015.

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and devoted Christian who opened her home and heart to anyone in need.  All who had the pleasure of knowing “Portee” loved and respected her.  The family saw and describes her as strong-willed and the definition of generous.

Portee’s  family was her life, starting with her best friend and husband of 52 years, Howard;  her heart and soul was her daughter, Evelyn and Pam, who was like a daughter;her pride and joy were her granddaughters, Mandy “Punkin”, Lisa “Weezie” and Sierra “Baby”.  She is also survived by her brother, Harvey Angel; sisters, Della (Roger) Clay, Euna King and Vicky Wright; and sister-in-law, Janet Angel.

She brought love and laughter to this world and the memories she made with loved ones will last in their hearts forever.

A celebration of her life will be 7:00 p.m. Friday, November 13, 2015 at Curry Funeral Home in Alum Creek with Pastor Frank Chapman officiating.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

 

Isabelle Sue Graley

Isabelle Sue Graley, infant daughter of Stephens Graley and Mary, passed away Tuesday, October 27, 2015 at Thomas Memorial Hospital.

Isabelle is also survived by her sisters, Zoey Noel Faith Graley, Brianna Graley, and Keira Dawn Pettry; brothers, Jacob Daniel Pettry, Logan and Dylan Graley; paternal grandparents, Melinda Sue & Dwight Graley, Sr.,  maternal grandparents, Carol & Eric Williams, maternal great-grandparents, Martha & James Holstein and paternal great-grandfather, Kyle (Deloris) Graley.

There will be no service.

Cinthia DuvallCynthia Leigh “Cindy” Duvall, 46, of South Charleston died Saturday, October 31, 2015 as a result of an auto   accident on Greenview Road, South Charleston.

Cindy loved her family first of all, her dog Bridget and the outdoors.  Along with her best friend and husband, B. J., they hunted and fished together throughout the Eastern United States and Canada. Killing deer, bear,  turkey and a bobcat among other critters.

She was a Christian and formerly attended Hopewell Baptist Church in Alum Creek.

Cindy was preceded in death by her parents, Gary and Pat McDerment.

She is survived by her husband of 23 years, B. J.; sons, Kelley (Elizabeth) McDerment and Justin Duvall; sister, Kim (Charlie) Duff; brother, Gary Lee McDerment; halfsister, Kathy Cantrell Clark and several nieces, nephews and other family who will greatly miss her.

Service will be Wednesday, November 4th, 11:00 a.m. at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Pastor Greg Blake officiating.  Burial will follow at Graceland Memorial Park, South Charleston.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

 

Frank Hicks

Frank HicksFrank Hicks, Jr., 73, of Charleston, went home to sing with the angels Friday, October 30.

He was born at home in Lincoln County on March 28, 1942 and was the first child of the late Shirley Frank and Lola Hicks. He is preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Johnny Lee and Robert Wayne, his sister Phyllis June Prouse, and his brother-in-law, Stephen Casto.

Frank was well-loved by all he met. He was a member of the National Guard and Army Special Forces and served his country in the Berlin Crisis, the Cuban Missile Crisis, and in Vietnam. The true definition of a handy man, Frank had many talents but he was most known as a painter and was active in the local painter’s union. He constantly gave of his time and energy, and was a 32 degree Mason. He attended Bible Center Church and considered faith and family most important above all. He enjoyed the outdoors and staying busy and could often be found hunting, fishing, or camping. Frank epitomized all of the qualities of a West Virginia gentleman.

He is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Debby; sons, Frank Hicks III and Jason Coughlin, and an individual who was like a son, Timmy Edens; brother Bill and wife Pam Hicks; sister Judy and husband Jim Turley, sister Peggy Hart; sister Vicky Casto; sister-in-law Diana and husband Charlie McCormick; brother-in-law Chuck Dale and wife Jessica; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 11am on Thursday, November 5, at Bible Center Church, 100 Bible Center Drive Charleston WV. Visitation will be held an hour prior to the service. Pastor Chad Cowen will be officiating the services. To honor Frank, please wear jeans.

The family would like to thank the MICU at CAMC Memorial Division, especially Travis and Joe, and Respiratory Therapy for their excellent care of Frank and his family.

Harold HensleyHarold Edwin Hensley, 83, of Sod went home to the Lord Saturday, October 24, 2015 at Dunbar Center after a long illness.

He was retired from Cement Masons, Charleston, WV.  He was a member of Alum Creek Independent Missionary Baptist Church.

Harold was preceded in death by his wife, Lucy; daughter, Jennifer Hensley and  son-in-law, Jim Holstein.

He is survived by special friend, Phyllis Nunn; daughters, Joan (Gene) Cecil and Tamara Holstein; grandchildren, Stephanie (Kevin) Dunlap; Shannon (Scott) Riffe and Olivia Holstein; great grandchildren, Kevin Dunlap, Jr. and Jilyian Riffe.

Funeral service will be 3:00 p.m. Monday, October 26, 2015 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Pastor Frank Chapman officiating.  Burial will follow at Lively Cemetery, Sod.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Darrell and Stella Ross; and brother, Darrell Ray Ross.

He is survived by his wife, Hope; sons, Justin, Josh, Zack and Jacob; sister, Tammy Johnson; brothers, Randy, Tommy and Roger Ross; and 7 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, Bobby and son, Jeremy Saul.

Ronnie is survived by his mother, Melba Clark Saul; wife, Kimberly L. Bragg Saul; children, Alana, Heather and Cody Saul and Jessica (Chris) Elswick; brother, Rick (Penelope) Saul;   sister, Shirley (Kessil) Justice;  grandchildren, Alexis Hanshaw, Jacob and Haylee Saul and J. T. and Amber Elswick.

A memorial service will be 7:00 p.m. Thursday, October 22,  at Curry Funeral Home in Alum Creek with Pastor Frank  Chapman officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service  at the funeral home.
