Frank Hicks, Jr., 73, of Charleston, went home to sing with the angels Friday, October 30.
He was born at home in Lincoln County on March 28, 1942 and was the first child of the late Shirley Frank and Lola Hicks. He is preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Johnny Lee and Robert Wayne, his sister Phyllis June Prouse, and his brother-in-law, Stephen Casto.
Frank was well-loved by all he met. He was a member of the National Guard and Army Special Forces and served his country in the Berlin Crisis, the Cuban Missile Crisis, and in Vietnam. The true definition of a handy man, Frank had many talents but he was most known as a painter and was active in the local painter’s union. He constantly gave of his time and energy, and was a 32 degree Mason. He attended Bible Center Church and considered faith and family most important above all. He enjoyed the outdoors and staying busy and could often be found hunting, fishing, or camping. Frank epitomized all of the qualities of a West Virginia gentleman.
He is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Debby; sons, Frank Hicks III and Jason Coughlin, and an individual who was like a son, Timmy Edens; brother Bill and wife Pam Hicks; sister Judy and husband Jim Turley, sister Peggy Hart; sister Vicky Casto; sister-in-law Diana and husband Charlie McCormick; brother-in-law Chuck Dale and wife Jessica; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 11am on Thursday, November 5, at Bible Center Church, 100 Bible Center Drive Charleston WV. Visitation will be held an hour prior to the service. Pastor Chad Cowen will be officiating the services. To honor Frank, please wear jeans.
The family would like to thank the MICU at CAMC Memorial Division, especially Travis and Joe, and Respiratory Therapy for their excellent care of Frank and his family.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests for donations to be made to Debby’s American Cancer Society Walk team, Eva’s St. Mark’s Angels. Donations can be made by check or online at http://main.acsevents.org/site/TR/RelayForLife/RFLCY16SA?px=33641094&pg=personal&fr_id=71267.
