Guyneth Jewell Belcher

July 2nd, 2023 | Posted by curryfuneralhome in Obituaries - (2 Comments)

Guyneth Jewell Belcher began her peaceful rest in the arms of her Lord and Savior on July 1, 2023. Jewell was born January 12, 1942 to Cleston and Maxine McClure Adams of Yawkey, WV. She grew up with her siblings, Louise Isaac Tackett, Danny Adams, Lahoma Nunn, Harley Adams and Lucille Zimenick. All but the latter two have proceeded her in death.

Jewell was a 1959 Duval High School graduate and there she met her one and only love, Richard H. Belcher. They married on November 5, 1960 and together they raised four boys, Brian (LeighAnn), Brent (Tracie), Rodney (Dawn) and Aaron (Paula). She was most elated when she began the title of Grandma, having not known either of hers. She was blessed with ten grandchildren; Beth (Jose) Clay, Amanda (Curtis) Banks, Brittany Trippett, Emily Belcher, Katelyn Belcher, Olivia (Luke) Hoffman, Ariel Belcher, Dalten (Jenna) Belcher, Morgan Fowler, Nathan (Rachel) Fowler and thirteen great-grandchildren; Ethan and Gracie Clay, Drew and Alex Banks, Rylan Maass, Gunner Belcher, Bowen Hoffman, Slayton and Marleigh Belcher, Kynzie Robbins and Rowan Fowler. Two great granddaughters, Lily Hoffman and Giannna Fowler, preceded her in death.

Jewell had a brief career outside the home with Demur Bra Factory in Hamlin, WV in the early 1960’s, but chose to become a homemaker after the birth of her first child. In their 62 years of marriage, Jewell helped Richard care for his ailing mother, cooked and canned more food from the garden then you can count and after the children were grown, Jewell accompanied Richard around the state as his job with the WVDOH kept him traveling. Jewell was Richard’s favorite camping buddy. When she was not home, you could usually find Jewell and Richard camping at Blackwater Falls State Park where they were considered two of the all-time regulars.

Jewell aka Grandma aka Granny Jewell was passionate about her antiques and had a beautiful collection of depression glass. She knew the history behind all her antiques as well as the family history of the Belcher and the Adams’ families. Shopping! She loved to shop and had a knack for getting the best bargain on anything she purchased. Clothes, shoes and jewelry were her favorites, but none could be worn without a perfect hairstyle and lipstick!

She had many wonderful friends over the years, Linda Dunlap, Doris Escue, Elsie Pauley, Nancy Pauley and Linda Jacobs to name a few. She certainly treasured their friendships.

Granny Jewell will especially leave a void in the life of her granddaughter, Emily. Jewell took the time to talk with her on the phone many times throughout the day and they had an incredibly special bond.

The family would like to express their deepest appreciation to her caregiver, Melissa Sigmon and Hospice of Charleston who cared for her during her battle with liver cancer.

There will be a graveside service on Wednesday July 5, 2023 at 1pm at Orchard Hills Memory Gardens, with her Minister Joseph Watts of the Alum Creek Church of Christ officiating.
