Chester “Bill” Allen

Chester “Bill” Allen, 93, of Newberry, FL, formerly of Alum Creek went home to be with the Lord, Wednesday, January 19, 2022.

Born in Alum Creek on December 27, 1928. Chester was one of 17 children, son of the late Andrew J. Allen and Violet Marie Miller Allen. He joined the Army and courageously served his country in the Korean War. After his tour of duty, he joined the National Guard as Master Sargent. He served in the 3rd Armory Cavalry regiment and went to school at the Armory in Fort Knox, KY. He went to tank school at Fort Irwin, California. After service, Chester drove for the Capital Transit and Charleston West Hamlin bus line. He was the owner of Allen Parking Lot on Lee & Laidley Streets. He worked for FMC before moving to Miami, FL. He spent 45 years in Miami. He retired from Miami Dodge Chrysler Corporation in 1985. Chester returned to Charleston upon the death of his wife Elizabeth Emma Beasley Allen in 2003. He married Geneva (Beard) Goodwin in 2004. Geneva passed away in 2018. In 2019, he returned to Florida. He is survived by his third wife, Frances Willis of Newberry, FL.

Chester was a member of the Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Charleston. The church members provided love and fellowship on many of the days when he could not attend due to Geneva’s health. He loved feeding the birds, cats, and everyone!

Chester is also survived by his daughter, Dr. Deborah Ashraf and her husband Mohammad of Alachua, Florida; six grandchildren, Aisha Abram (Scott) of Missouri, Samina Dillihay (Richard) of Oklahoma, Shawna Ashraf of Florida, Wally (Molly) Ashraf of Florida, Tahira Ashraf of Florida, and Shaan (Nicole) Ashraf of Missouri; eight great-grandchildren; step-children, Devi Wronske, Connie Coleman, Woody Willis, Denese Clark, Angela Jackson; sisters-in-law, Lucy Allen, Lynda Veski (Lenny); brother-in-law, Earl Hackworth, Jr.; nieces, Shirley Thompson, Joan (Fred) Lane, Janet (Ben) Swartz, Judy Allen King (Mark); nephews, Giles (Sara) Bowman, Bryant (Barbara) Bowman, James David Allen (Debbie); and many cousins.

Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 25, 2022, at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Reverend Gary Hall and Bryant Bowman officiating followed by military rights by Alum Creek VFW Post 4768. Burial will follow at Miller Family Cemetery, Alum Creek. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Linda Faye Priestley

Linda Faye Priestley, 70, of Hurricane passed away Saturday, January 15, 2022, at CAMC Teays Valley Hospital.

Linda was born in Hurricane on February 1, 1951, to the late Calvin Curtis and Esta Kathryn Sowards Thomas. In addition to her parents, Linda was preceded in death by her brothers, Clinton Thomas & Alvie “Pete” Thomas; sister, Shirley Davis; and son, Zack Edward Priestley.

Linda is survived by her life partner of 30 years, Larry Aleshire; son, Charles Priestley of Charleston; daughter, Loretta Smith of Alum Creek; granddaughter, Madison Cobb of Alum Creek; and sister, Jean Meickles of Alum Creek.

Graveside service will be 1:00 p.m., Friday, January 21, 2022, at Priestley-Pate Cemetery, Sumerco with Pastor Chris VanNatter officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to offset the funeral expenses to Curry Funeral Home, PO Box 9, Alum Creek, WV 25003.

John Lee Witt

John Lee Witt, 70, of South Charleston, passed in peace, Monday, January 17, 2022, at home with family.

John was born in Charleston, WV on November 4, 1951, to the late Willie L. & Louise Witt. He graduated from George Washington High School in 1969 and retired from American Electric Power in 2005. John was a member of Davis Creek Nazarene Church where he served on the board for several years.

John is survived by his spouse, Cynthia L. Witt; son, John L. Witt, II (Erica); daughter, Jami N. Witt-Lewis (Jamie); siblings, Billie Jo Burdette of South Charleston, Sharon Perkins of Milton, & Michael Witt of South Charleston. He was proud grandfather of granddaughters, Haley Marie Lewis, Miley E. Witt, and grandson, Zain Witt.

Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 22, 2022, at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Pastor Rick Gardner officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Judith Carol Watson

Judith Carol Watson, 74, of Hurricane, went to be with the Lord, Monday, January 17, 2022, at home.

Judith was a Christian and formerly attended Forks of Coal Missionary Baptist Church, Alum Creek where she sang and played with the praise band. She was a Title 1 math teacher, working at Anne Bailey Elementary in St. Albans, and retired from Mary C. Snow Elementary in Charleston.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Cleon “Short” & Brookie Vickers Breedlove; brothers, Leo & Danny Breedlove.

Judith is survived by her husband of 54 years, Eddy, whom she married in Santa Monica, CA; children, Eddy Scott (Meaghann) Watson of Rincon, GA & Anthony Shane (Jodi) Watson of Hurricane; grandchildren, Zoee, Liam, Romin & Eastin Watson; sisters, Kathy (Jerry) Skeenes & Joyce (Jerry) Midkiff; brothers, Willie (Mallie) Breedlove & Russel (Teresa) Breedlove.

Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m., Friday, January 21, 2022, at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek. Entombment will follow in the WV Mausoleum at Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Patricia “Patty” Dunlap

Patricia “Patty” Dunlap, 86, went to her Heavenly Home on January 15, 2022, at CAMC Memorial Hospital. She was born on October 21, 1935.

She was married to her late husband, Carl Dunlap, for 61 years. She was a retired secretary from Bethany Baptist Church and was a faithful member of Grace Baptist Temple in St. Albans.

She was preceded in death by her mother and stepfather, Gladys and Posey Hamm.

Patty is survived by her sons, Mark Dunlap (Gloria) of Cross Lanes and Brad Dunlap (Brenda) of St. Albans; her 4 grandchildren, April, Christopher, Andrew, and Dustin Dunlap; and her 3 great grandchildren, Ryleigh, Mackenzie, and Cassidy Dunlap.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM, Thursday, January 20, at Grace Baptist Temple, 1901 MacCorkle Ave. St. Albans, WV 25177 with Pastor Brian Dean officiating. Burial will be in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.

Carl Stapleton, Jr.

Carl Stapleton, Jr., of St. Albans, passed away Thursday, January 13, 2022, at CAMC Memorial Hospital.

Carl was a diesel mechanic and served his country as a United States Marine in the Vietnam War.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Freda Stapleton and sister, Carol.

Carl is survived by son, Chris Stapleton and daughters, Carla Callie Nichols & Cynthia (A.D.) Burdette; 5 grandchildren.

Funeral will be 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 25, 2022, at Curry Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Jennifer Irene Daniels

Jennifer Irene Daniels, 50, of Wharton, went home to be with the Lord, Wednesday, January 12, 2022, at Ruby Memorial Hospital.

Jennifer formerly attended Alum Creek Church of Christ and was a former employee of Grant’s Grocery Store in Wharton.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jerry & Nora Tackett Beach.

Jennifer is survived by her husband of 25 years, Andrew; stepson, Andrew (Lisa) Daniels, Jr.; stepdaughter, Delilah Mae Daniels; and three grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Lisa Renee Dunlap Pauley

Lisa Renee Dunlap Pauley, 58, of Sod, went home to be with the Lord, Monday, January 10, 2022, at Thomas Memorial Hospital.

Lisa was a member of Elizabeth Missionary Baptist Church. She loved flower gardening, crafting, and shopping.

She was preceded in death by her father, Walter Dunlap; sister, Amy Dunlap; brother, Kevin Dunlap; grandparents, Ralph & Ocie Gillenwater and Lonnie & Beedie Dunlap.

Lisa is survived by her husband, Allen Pauley; mother, Joyce (Ray) Dunlap Jarrett; daughter, Tina (Brent) Miles; son, Andrew (Maxine) Pauley; grandchildren, Cynthia, Andy, McKenzie, & Karmen; brother, Greg (Sherry) Dunlap.

Service will be 1:00 p.m., Thursday, January 13, 2022, at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Pastors Homer Hensley & Mark Ruby officiating. Burial will follow at Hayzlett Cemetery, Garretts Bend. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Connie Wyonna Pauley

Connie Wyonna Pauley, 83, of South Charleston, went home to be with the Lord, Tuesday, January 11, 2022, at Meadowbrook Acres Nursing Center.

Connie was the oldest member of Hilltop Missionary Baptist Church. She graduated from South Charleston High School and retired as a longtime employee of CAMC Hospital.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald and brother, John J. Bowles.

Connie is survived by her children, Melondy Holbert and Ed (Kim) Pauley; grandchildren, Shannon Holbert, Taylor Tafoya, and Toryn Pauley.

Service will be 1:00 p.m., Friday, January 14, 2022, at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Pastors Jim Lennox and Doris Walls officiating. Burial will follow at Graceland Memorial Park, South Charleston. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Due to COVID, the family requests masks be worn.

Brian McClure

Brian McClure, 46, of Alkol, WV went home to be with the Lord after a sudden illness, Sunday, January 9, 2022.

Those left to cherish his memory are his mother and father, Alton & Barbara McClure of Alkol; his sister, Blaire (Robbie) Anderson, of Charleston; his son, Tyler (Jane) of Charleston, his son, Tanner of Sod; grandson, Atlas of Charleston; and his niece, Gracelyn Anderson of Charleston. He also leaves behind a host of cousins who he grew up with and loved them like brothers and sisters.

Brian was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Amos & Florence Smith of Rock Creek, WV; his paternal grandparents, Boyd & Barbara McClure of Alkol; uncles, Cecil, Randy and Averrill McClure; cousin, Jon Eric McClure of South Point, OH; and infant cousin, Andrew McClure.

Brian was a friend to everyone he met. He loved his family and friends deeply and cherished his sons and grandson with his whole heart. He loved his job and the people he worked with and his special work buddies, R.D., Georgie, and Josh. He was an avid Cleveland Browns fan. He will be missed greatly and will forever be in our hearts!

Service will be 2:30 p.m., Saturday, January 15, 2022, at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Pastors Brandon McClure & Richard McCallister officiating. Burial will follow at the McClure Family Cemetery, Alkol. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
