Garney Linville Kinder

Garney Linville Kinder, 90, of Ashford, was born on October 7, 1927 and went home to be with the Lord on Monday, January 1, 2018.

He was born and raised in Ashford, West Virginia and was a loved member of the community where he worked and lived.

Garney retired after 17 years of service from Madison Mines in Ashford. He was also an evangelist and traveled throughout the state to deliver God’s Word.

He enjoyed activities like archery and was a talented woodworker, blacksmith and gardener. Ultimately, he loved people and his joy came from helping others. Garney never knew a stranger and showed kindness to all those he met.

Garney was preceded in death by his parents, Elisha W. and Samantha Kinder; sisters, Orpha Stringer, Effie Graley and Virginia Walker; brother, Clifford Kinder; two infant siblings; son-in-law, Danny Kirk; and grandson, Derek Kirk.

Garney leaves behind his wife of 67 years, Pauline; children, Lois Kirk of Ashford, West Virginia, Susan (Jim) McCauley of Stevensville, Montana, Randell (Debi) Kinder of Ashford, West Virginia, Lee (Bonnie) Kinder of Mocksville, North Carolina and Sheila Kinder of Cross Lanes, West Virginia, six grandchildren, Darren Kirk, Chris McCauley, Matthew McCauley, Josaiah Kinder, Bethany Kinder and Tessa Kinder; and four great grandchildren, Nathan, Madison and Alexis McCauley and Gracelyn Kinder; and a host of friends.

Service will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, January 5, at the Ashford Church of God Holiness, 231 Ashford Nellis Road, Ashford, West Virginia with Pastor Dwight McClure officiating. Burial will follow at the Kinder Cemetery, Costa. The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 p.m. Thursday at the church.

The family would like to express a special thank you to the staff at the Meadowbrook Assisted Living and also the staff at 4N CAMC for the wonderful care they provided.

 

Arnold Edward Cantley

Arnold Edward Cantley, 78, of Alum Creek, WV, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 31, 2017, after a short battle with leukemia.    Arnold was born on May 5, 1939, to Archie & Lois Flowers Cantley of Alum Creek, WV.

Arnold was also preceded in death by the love of his life for 55 years, Evia Hughes Cantley, brothers, Jerry, Bob, and Jimmy Cantley, sisters, Ellen Pauley and Linda Cantley, and faithful companion, Shaggy.

After being Evia’s caregiver for 12 years, Arnold went back to work with Autozone at the age of 76, where he enjoyed and made many good friends.

He is survived by his daughter Daphne Cantley, grandson, Randall (Hannah) Fields, great-grandchildren, Tommy, Christopher, Chase, and Luke, brother, Patrick (Lee) Cantley of Alabama, sisters, Rosalie (Steve) Lipscomb of Elkview, Shirley Ker of Utah, Mary Herr of Florida, and many nieces and nephews.

Arnold’s final resting place will be at Brounland Cemetery, Alum Creek, 1:00pm Wednesday, January 3, 2018, with a small graveside service provided by Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek.  The family would like to give special thanks to all the hospice staff that gave Arnold excellent care, as well as Dr. John and the nursing staff of the Cancer Center at Thomas Memorial Hospital.
