Keith A. Rabel, 90, of South Charleston died Friday, August 17, 2012 at Hubbard Hospice West at Thomas Hospital, South Charleston.

He was a retired school bus driver for the Kanawha County Board of Education.  He was a WWII Army Veteran serving in the Pacific Theater and life member of the Alum Creek VFW Post 4768.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Maggie Gillispie Rabel; wife, Grace; sister, Phyllis Pauley and brother, John B. Rabel.

He is survived by his only child and loving son-in-law, Pamela Rose and John; brother, Thomas E. Rabel; sisters, Shirley (Bob) Holstine, Charlotte McGraw; grandchildren: John Rose, Jessica Young (Justin), Natalie Rose and fiancé, Timothy Henry; Susan Button (Christopher);  great grandchildren, Keith Rose, Alan Strojia, Chloe Button, Lorelai Rose, Savannah Young and Grace Henry.

Service will be 1:00 PM Monday, August 20, 2012, at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek with Pastor Dwight McClure officiating.  Entombment will be in Graceland Memorial Park Mausoleum, South Charleston, with Military Graveside Rites conducted by the Alum Creek VFW Post 4768.    Family and friends will gather one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the HospiceCare, 1606 Kanawha Blvd. W., Charleston, WV 25387-2536.

Alice Lucille Laster

Alice Lucille Laster, 70 of Griffithsville, formerly of Highpoint, North Carolina went home to the Lord Thursday August 16, 2012 at home after a long illness.

She was former co-owner of Oak Island Landscaping.

She is survived by her husband of 54 years  Bill, sons Dale, Jeff and his wife Mary all of Lincoln County, grandson Jeremy, grand daughter Diana and great-grand-daughter Willow. Sister Lovone Gardner, brothers Henry Clay Maynor of Ashboro, North Carolina and Ronnie Maynor of Highpoint, North Carolina.

Memorial service will be 2:00 PM Sunday August 19, 2012 at Eden Baptist Church Griffithsville with Pastor K. D. Bragg officiating. Family and friends will gather one hour prior to the service at the church.

 

Lois Forrest McClure

Lois  Forrest McClure, 93, of Charleston peacefully entered eternal  life on Thursday, August 9, 2012, at Hubbard Hospice House – Charleston.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph “Mac” McClure.  Lois  was born in El Campo, TX and later moved to Charleston where she was a social worker at Health & Human Services in Kanawha County, and a longstanding member of Oakwood Baptist Church.

Our beloved mother and grandmother is survived by three daughters: Pam (Bob) Vicars, Lake Wylie, SC, Patty (Gib) Hunter, Oxford, OH, and Nancy (Bob) Guttendorf, Gaithersburg, MD.  Also survived by one sister, Ida  Bellah, Lewisville, TX, seven grandchildren, Sara, Cory, Jennifer, Chris, Kathryn, Beth, and Nathan; two great grandchildren, Kaylee Fe, and Noah and several special nieces and nephews.

Services will be  2:00pm  Saturday, August 11, 2012, at Oakwood Baptist Church, 855 Oakwood Rd., Charleston, WV 25314 with Pastor David Moutz officiating. Entombment will follow at Graceland Memorial Park South Charleston.

Visitation with family and friends will be one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made either to the Oakwood Baptist Church, 855 Oakwood Rd., Charleston, WV 25314 or to  Hubbard  Hospice House, 1606 Kanawha  Blvd., West, Charleston, WV 25387-2536.

The family wants to express appreciation for the outstanding care provided by Dr. Julian Espiritu and Dr. Stephen Lewis, the Staff at 4-South  CAMC – Memorial, and Hubbard Hospice House.

Mom’s  influence and life will always  be joyfully remembered by her family and many friends.

Freddie Cobb

Freddie Cobb 65 of Alum Creek went home to the Lord Wednesday August 1, 2012 at CAMC Memorial Hospital Charleston after a long illness.

He enjoyed his time visiting his friends at the Handley Community Center and was a member of Christ Temple at Winifrede and a former member of the Alum Creek Volunteer Fire Department.

He is survived by his former wife Vickie Cobb, son Freddie Dale (Michele) Cobb of Spring, TX, daughter Tammy (William) Edwards of Winifrede, sisters Marsha Fennimore of South Charleston, Loma Rice of Newark, OH, grandchildren Chloe and Caleb Boen-Cobb, and Julie and Mariah Ward and many nieces and nephews.

Service will be 3:00 PM Monday August 6, at Curry Funeral Home 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek with Pastor Jack Long officiating. Burial will follow at Orchard Hills Memory Gardens Yawkey. Family and friends will gather one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers family request contributions toward funeral service.

Susan Jane Pauley Hamilton, 77 of So. Charleston formerly of Jacksonville, Florida, daughter of Talmage and Mamye Pauley went home to the Lord Tuesday July 31, 2012 at Dunbar Care and Rehabilitation Center Dunbar after a long illness.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, Steve, Edward, Paul, Troy and Bob, sisters, Berniece, Barb, Olive, son Randy Thompson and daughter Bridget Carr.

She was a loving inspiration to all whom she knew and her laugh and love and stories will be sadly missed.

She is survived by her brother Ray (Elsie) Pauley of Alum Creek, children Arlin Thompson Jr. Of Cocoa, Florida, daughter Deidra Pauley of So. Charleston, grandchildren, Kirstin, Erica, Randy Jr., Chad, Steven, Aaron, Adam, great grandchildren, Paul Edward IV, and Kaleb Ray Dotson, Austin Thompson and many cousins, nephews and nieces. Special friend Wendell Pope of Jacksonville, Florida.

A very special thank you to Breanna Pauley for the special touch and friendship she provided in her trying times of illness, and to Laura Pauley and the staff of Dunbar Rehab for the excellent care and compassion they showed.

Service will be 2:00 PM Sunday August 5 at Curry Funeral Home 2097 Childress Road Alum Creek with Minister Richard Runyan officiating. Burial will follow at Pauley Cemetery on Joe Creek at Garretts Bend. Family and friends will gather one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Rev. Roscoe (Rocky) Ratliff went to be with the Lord Jesus Christ on Aug. 1st 2012, after a short illness do to an injury from a car accident. He was proceeded in death by wife: Isabelle Cummings Ratliff, three brothers and three sisters:  oldest to youngest – Alonzo Ratliff, Delphia Kirk, Hazel Robinett, Clayton Troy Ratliff, Reba Jean Hatcher, Philabee A Ratliff.

He was a army veteran of WWII, and retired from Libby Owens Ford Glass.

He is survived by: two sons oldest to youngest – Steven Ray Ratliff of North Charleston, Dennis Mack Ratliff of Alum Creek, five daughters oldest to youngest – Clara Jean Ratliff Dunlap of Raleigh, NC, Myrna Jane Ratliff Saddler of Salt Rock,  Sarah Margaret Ratliff Dunlap of New Carrollton, MD, Bonnie Gay Ratliff Collins of West Hamin, and Susan Lynn Ratliff Burns of Alum Creek, WV.

Brother: Daniel Howard Jr. Ratliff. 15 Grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren.

He also had a host of Brothers and Sisters in Christ Jesus ……He will be greatly missed.

Funeral will be 12:00 noon Saturday August 4, at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek with Pastor Frank Chapman officiating.  Entombment will follow at Grandview Memorial Park Dunbar.

Family and friends will gather from 6 to 8 pm Friday at the funeral home.

Evelyn McCormick

Evelyn McCormick was born in Ivy Branch, Lincoln County on October 28, 1921. She was a life long resident of McCorkle. She has been a member of the McCorkle Free Will Baptist Church for as long as anyone living can remember. Evelyn was a professional home maker  all of her life. She passed away in Florida on Wednesday July 25, 2012 three months before her 91st birthday.

She was preceded in death by her husband John D. McCormick, her daughter Brenda Joyce McCormick Hunter, her parents Van Buren and Lola (Dunlap) Pauley, her sister Junaita Huffman,  and her brother Billy Pauley.

She is survived by her two children; Delilah and husband Ron Scott and J.D. and his wife Pam McCormick, two brothers; Junior and (Kat) Pauley and Pete and (Nancy) Pauley, six grandchildren; Greta McHugh, Deah Calloway, Shara Bevin, Myron Scott, Shani Brinkman, Brandon McCormick, 16 great grandchildren; Nathanael, Hannah, Levi and Raechel Brinkman, Cheyenne, Courtney, Cameron and Caera McCormick, Grace and Olivia McHugh, Jonathan Hutchinson, Bradley, Brandon and Braden Bevin, Evan and Peirson Scott, many nieces and nephews, including Lisa Lewis, Van Pauley, Kathy Buckland and Phyllis Dunlap, many fellow church members and friends including her friends and pastor from First Baptist Church in Cedar Key, Florida.

Mother so eloquently wrote her own funeral sermon as she went along. Written on the simple pages of a pure and gentle Christian life.

Visitation will be at the McCorkle Free Will Baptist Church, McCorkle, on Wednesday August 1, 2012 from 6 to 7 pm. Graveside service will follow at 7:30 pm at the Pine Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in McCorkle.

 

Eula Lee Rumsey

Eula Lee McCallister Rumsey, 67, of Oak Hill, passed away Sunday July 22, 2012 at St. Mary’s  Medical Huntington after a short illness.

She is survived by her: husband; Charles, children; Roy (Shirley) Loyd, David Saunders, Tammy (Augustine) Valley, Lisa Rowe, sisters; Emma Kelly, Patricia Workman, Butterfly Arthur, Linda Newcome, brothers; James and John Milam, half brothers; Dennis and Junior Sparks, eight grandchildren, twenty two great grandchildren, lifelong friend Diane Lambert, family friend Jason McCloud and her beloved pets.

Service will be 1:00 PM Friday July 27 at Curry Funeral Home 2097 Childress Road Alum Creek, burial will follow at Midkiff Cemetery at Sumerco. Family and friends will gather one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Dauvn Rheda Cantley

Dauvn Rheda Cantley 73, of South Charleston went home to the Lord Sunday July 22, 2012 at Tender Heart Home Care, South Charleston after a long illness.

She was preceded in death by her husband Charles A. Cantley, Sr., parents John F. and Anna M. Roberts and brother Garland Roberts.

She was a Christian and formerly attended Cobbs Creek Missionary Baptist Church at Sod. She was a beloved mother and grandmother who will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her son; Charles Albert (Karen) Cantley, Jr., of South Charleston daughter; Lisa Cantley of St. Albans, sister; Linda R. (Rod) McClure of Matthews, North Carolina, brothers; Roger (Franics) Roberts of Nitro, Johnny (Melody) Roberts of Alum Creek, sister-in-law; Barbara Roberts of Charleston, and, grandaughter; Sydney  Nicole Cantley of South Charleston.

Service will be 1:00 PM Wednesday July 25 at Curry Funeral Home 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek with Pastor Terry Hogue officiating. Burial will follow at Graceland Memorial Park South Charleston. Family and friends will gather one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Cosby Jane Murphy

Cosby Jane Murphy, 81, South Charleston, went home to be  with the Lord on Saturday July 14, 2012, at Thomas Memorial Hospital, South Charleston.

As a direct descendant of the Hatfield family from Yeager, WV, Cosby graduated from West Virginia University in 1952.  She moved to Charleston, WV in 1961.  Cosby was a school teacher until 1972 when she received her master’s degree from WVU and began her career as a guidance counselor.  She retired from Kanawha County Schools in 1988.  For many years after her retirement she volunteered at the Kanawha Home for Children.  She touched the lives of many children during her career.

She is survived by her two children, Michael and Derek Murphy, whom she lovingly  raised as a single parent and Kimberly Hammack who caringly helped her for many years.

Graveside service will be 11:00am on Wednesday, July 18th at Graceland Memorial Park, South Charleston with Pastor Butch Leadman officiating.  Curry Funeral Home at Alum Creek is in care of arrangements.
