Wilma Marie Smith

Wilma SmithWilma Marie Smith, 90,  Scott Depot, went home to be with the Lord on  Wednesday, December 17, 2014, at Hospice West, South Charleston.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert F. Smith, brother: Everette Downey and her parents Roy Downey and Mabel Lee.

She was a Sunday School teacher for 55 years and a member of Eternal Light Church of God, St. Albans.  She was formerly an office manager for St. Albans Window and later retired from Nitro Window.

She is survived by three sons:  Robert (Elizabeth); Chuck (Carol); and David (Wanda); four daughters: Sue (Virgil) Brogan; Annette Mitchell; Roberta Smith (Jim Hickman); and Dawnetta (Greg) Cook;  Brothers: Roy Lee Downey; Jerry (Barbara)Downey and Charles (May)Downey; 14 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Services will be 3:00pm on Sunday, December 21, 2014 at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek with her three sons officiating, Robert, Chuck and David.  Burial will follow at Forks of Coal Memorial Park, Alum Creek.

Friends may gather two hours prior to the service.

Wilma’s family is very grateful to Lori Hughes and also the staff at Hospice West for their wonderful care.

Julia Marie Atkins Stone

Julia StoneJulia Marie Atkins Stone, 81, of Alkol, passed away Monday, December 15, 2014 at Hubbard Hospice House after having lived a full and loving life.

She was Christian and a member of Sycamore Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Alkol.

Julia  was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, James Marvin Stone; parents, Queenie and Lylmer Atkins; sisters, Emma Burns, Ruth Watson and Madeline Hodge.

She is survived by her son, Jim (Marilyn) Stone; daughters, Pamela Aldridge, Kim (Jeff) Smith, Becky (Bill) Bowe, and Sarah (Mark) Kennedy; sister, Etta Pritchard of Xenia, OH; brothers-in-law, Kenny Burns of Charleston and Rick Stone of TX; sisters-in-law, Gladys Green of Nitro and Lora Stone of Ravenswood; 21 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews and foster children to whom she was “granny”.

Funeral service will be 1:00 pm Wednesday, December 17, at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek, with Pastor Darrell Searls.  Burial will follow in Stone Family Cemetery, Alkol.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to Hospice Care, 1606 Kanawha Blvd. W., Charleston, WV  25387.

The family would like to express a heartfelt thanks to their sister, Becky, Bill and their children   for their loving care and devotion to mom; also to Kanawha Hospice nurses, Anyia Howard, Melanie Martin and Kitty Prowse; and the staff at Hubbard Hospice House.

 

Helen May Johnson

Helen JohnsonHelen May Johnson, 68, of 23 Brooks Manor, Charleston went home to be with the Lord Sunday, December 14, 2014 at Hubbard Hospice House, Charleston, after a short illness.

She was a former employee of CAMC General Division, Charleston, and a 1965 graduate of Duval High School.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas F. and Olive Johnson; sisters, Betty Johnson and Jana Justice; brother and sister-in-law, Thomas Jr. “Buddy” and Loretta Johnston; brother in law, Larry Young.

She is survived by her twin sister, Ellen Johnson; sisters, Lillian Smith, Loretta J. (Russell) Turley and Marie Young; brothers, Forrest G. (Rose) Johnston, Dannie B. (Rose Mary) Johnston, Stanley “Josh” (Carolyn) Johnson and Henry W. “David” Johnson; brother-in-law, Londis Justice and a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral  service will be held 2pm Tuesday, December 16, at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek.  Burial will be at Johnson Family Cemetery, Alkol, at a later date.   The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

The family would like to express a special Thank You to Hubbard Hospice House and the STICU at CAMC General.   In lieu of flowers, it was Helen’s request donations be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, PO Box 1893, Memphis, TN  38101-9950.

Dorsey F. Ferrell

Dorsey FerrellDorsey F. Ferrell, 81, of Huntington went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 7, 2014 at the Huntington Hospice House after a long illness.

He was preceded in death by his son, Rusty, and parents, Dennis & Crete Ferrell.

He served in Korea with the US Army; was a member of the American Legion Post 93 in Kenova; retired operator for Ashland Oil, and a member of Grace Missionary Baptist Church, Ceredo.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Barbara Adkins Ferrell; two sons: Mike Ferrell, Woodstock, GA and Ed Ferrell and his companion, Paula Dilley and her daughter, Calysta, Ironton, OH.  Also survived by grandchildren: Becca (Justin) Mussara and Chris Ferrell; one great-granddaughter: Audrey Mussara and special nephew: Scott Ashworth.

Services will be 2:00pm Wednesday, December 10th at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek, WV, with Pastors Paul Meadows and John Fry officiating.  Burial will follow at Orchard Hill Memory Gardens, Yawkey, with military graveside rites conducted by Alum Creek VFW Post #4768.

Friends will gather one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to the  Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House, 3100 Staunton Road, Huntington, WV  25702.

Susie Louise Roberts

Susie RobertsSusie Louise Roberts 78, of Charleston went home to be with the Lord Friday,  December 5, 2014 at CAMC Memorial Hospital after a long illness.

She was a homemaker, a Baptist, a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

Susie was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd Roberts; children Jeannie Moore and Mark Roberts; granddaughter, Jessica O’Neal; grandson, Michael Jason Roberts; parents, Ed and Marie Bradshaw; two sisters and two brothers.

She  is survived by daughters, Susan Winnings and Harold, Sandra Jones and Paul, Wanda Johnson and Steve;  son, Michael Roberts and Gale; grandchildren, Bucky, Tabatha, Heather, Sean, Brandon, David and Nicole; nine great grandchildren; special nephew, Alan Chandler and Diana; and her little dog, Cesar.  Susie also left a host of friends who loved her very much and she will be sadly missed.

Funeral service will be 1:00 pm Monday, December 8, at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek, with Pastor Terry Layton officiating.  Burial will follow at Graceland Memorial Park, South Charleston.  The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 pm Sunday at the funeral home.

Olivia Marie McCormick

Olivia McCormickGod blessed this world and made life sweeter on March 11, 1998, when He blessed this earth with a beautiful bright eyed baby girl, named Olivia Marie McCormick.

On Sunday, November 23, 2014 her life ended with a terrible tragedy on Heizer Creek in Putnam County.  Her life was filled with loving family, caring friends and lots of sweet memories!  She loved the outdoors, fishing, playing with her kitten, Kiki, concerts and most of all spending time with her family and friends.

She was in her junior year at LCHS and on the honor roll; she had a life full of dreams and aspirations for the future.  Olivia spent her life lifting others up and because of her sweet heart and contagious smile her spirit will forever live on.  She LOVED God, CHERISHED her mom, LOOKED UP TO her daddy, ADORED her brothers, and THOUGHT THE WORLD of her stepdad.  Now, they, along with many others, are facing the most difficult time of their lives.

Olivia was preceded in death by her brother, Christopher Todd McCormick; grandmothers, Gladys McCormick and Debra Rowe.

She is survived by her mother and stepdad, Melanie and John Burchell; dad, Leonard McCormick; twin brother, Cole McCormick and brothers, Christian and Mark McCormick; sister, Karrah Coy; step brother, Wade Burchell; step sister, Makenzie Burchell; grandfather, David L. Rowe; uncle, Davy L. Rowe II; aunts, Breanna Rowe, Sharon Marker and Teresa McCallister; and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews who will greatly miss her.

Funeral service will be 3:00 pm Friday, November 28, at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek with Pastor Richard McCallister officiating.  Burial will follow at Orchard Hills Memory Gardens, Yawkey.  The family will receive friends from 12 to 3 pm at the funeral home.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to all who have reached out with financial help, food, visits and calls of loving concern.

Charles “Chuck” Percy Cecil

Charles “Chuck” Percy Cecil, 86, of Boomer, died Saturday, November 22, 2014 at home.

He was a supervisor at Ladish Pacific where he worked over 26 years.

Chuck is survived by his children, Gloria Rook, Diana Franz, Randy and Christopher Cecil.

There will be no services.  Burial will be at Lively Cemetery, Sod.

Beulah Lavern McCormick Bonhag, 86, of Huntington passed Wednesday, November 19, 2014 at Cabell Huntington Hospital, Huntington.

She was a contract specialist for the National Institute of Health.

Lavern  was preceded in death by  her husband, George Bonhag; son, Frankie Bonhag; brothers, Dorsel, Vondon, Bernie, and Rex McCormick; and sisters, Myrtle Banks and Revel Smith.

She is survived by brothers, Herbert (Sharyn) McCormick; sisters, Edna Baker, Glenna Anderson and Anna Lois Hodges; a multitude of nieces and nephews.   A very special thank you to her nephew, Gary Hodges and his wife, Brenda, for their special loving care for Lavern.

Funeral service will be 2:00 PM Monday, November 24, at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek with Pastor Oshel Bell officiating.  Burial will follow at Midkiff Cemetery, Sumerco.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Khloe Storm Mosteller

Khloe Storm Mosteller, 3-week old daughter of Autumn Mosteller died Sunday, November 16, 2014, at CAMC – Women & Children’s Hospital, Charleston.

She is survived by her mother, Autumn Mosteller and her father, Dennis Hitchcock; brothers, Jordan Stone and Dennis Elliot; sisters, Braelyn Sampson, Kyrah Sampson and Heather Elliot; maternal grandmother, Angela Schnurpel and maternal grandfather, Terry Mosteller; grandfather, Melvin Schnurpel and godfather, Ronnie Sampson; also two uncles, three aunts and many cousins and two great-grandmothers.

Services will be held at 2:00pm on Friday, November 21, 2014 at Curry Funeral Home Chapel, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek, WV, with Rev. Jeff Mosteller officiating.  Burial will follow at Mosteller-Yoder Cemetery at Tornado.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations toward funeral expenses.

Frankie Rose Holstine, 52, of Emmons, went home to the Lord Monday, November 17, 2014 at Hospice West after a short illness.

She was preceded in death by her step son Timothy Lovell Hosltine and brother William Howard Browning, parents Franklin and Nancy Browning, Sr.

She is survived by her husband, Lovell, son Matthew Berry and Megan, step son Kelly Ray Holstine, step daughters, Sarah Boggs and Christy Abernathy, granddaughter Destiny Holstine along with 10 other grandchildren, 6 sisters and 1 brother.

Service will be 1:00 pm Thursday, November 20, at Emmons Church of God with Pastor Michael Graley officiating. Family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service at the church.

In Lieu of flower family request donations go toward funeral.
