Johnnie Baptist Linville

Johnnie Baptist Linville, 92, of Hernshaw, WV, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 16, 2018.

Johnnie was born May 10, 1926 in Bernie, Lincoln County, to the late Winfield Scott Linville and Margie Estep.  He was also preceded in death by sisters Kathleen, Dorothy, and Gladys; brothers, Kermit, Glen, Howard, Raymond, and Thurmond; and infant children Peter and Wanda. The self-proclaimed “Mayor of Hernshaw,” Johnnie was a proud UMWA member retired from Madison Mines.  He was also a founding member of Rumble Community Baptist Church.

Johnnie is survived by Frances, his loving wife of 71 years; children, Diana (Tom) Hughey of Victoria, TX, Johnnie “JR” (Audrey) Linville of Beckley, Trudy (Robert) Barker of Ashford, Eva (Jesse) Thompson of Ashford, Steve (Denise) Linville of Hurricane, and Cheryl (Ronnie) Vance of Ashford; grandchildren, Jason (Lou Ann) Hoover, Jonathan Linville, David Linville, Robbie (Tammy) Barker, Brad (Cassie) Barker, Brigitte (Luke) Carney, Kelly Thompson, Jessica (Jerry) Hill, Rachel Elgin, Josh (Kelly) Linville, Erin (Sam) Pierson, Whitney (Zack) Harold, and Alex Vance; and 20 great-grandchildren.  He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and neighbors as well as his faithful dog, Sparky.

Service will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday, September 20, 2018 at Rumble Community Baptist Church with Pastors Richard Harold and Tom Hughey officiating.  Burial will follow at Rumble Heights Cemetery.  Family and friends will gather one hour prior to the service.

The family would like to thank the staff at CAMC-Memorial Hospital for all of their compassion and excellent care.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Rumble Community Baptist Church, 43 Fairlawn Drive, Ashford, WV 25009.

Rita Katrin Mustell

Rita Katrin Mustell, 71, of Alum Creek, WV, went home Saturday, September 15, 2018 at Hubbard Hospice House West in South Charleston.

She is survived by her four children, Frank James, Juanita Halferty, Dennis Mustell and Martin Mustell; sister, Donna (Roger) Parsons; brothers Dennis (Angie) James  and Bob (Mary Alice) James ; 13 grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

 

Philip D. Kingrey

Philip D. Kingrey, 63, of Alum Creek, WV, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, September 14, 2018, after a short illness from NK Leukemia.

He was a member of Spirit Life Fellowship Church where he served on the church council, Deacon, Trustee and sound system operator. He had a great love for golfing, mountain bike riding, gardening and the WVU Mountaineers. He was previously employed by Union Carbide, Dow Chemical and the State of WV Office of the Insurance Commissioner.

Phil was preceded in death by his parents, James “Dell” and Edith Vickers Kingrey; sister-in-law, Rosery “Sue” Kingrey; and father-in-law, Hassil Pauley, Sr.

Phil is survived by his wife, Dreama; daughter, Kristin Kingrey of Cross Lanes, WV; brother, Michael Kingrey of Alum Creek, WV; mother-in-law, Teenie “Maw” Pauley; sisters-in-law, Rita (Arthur) Byrd, Orla (Joey) Pauley; brother-in-law, Hassil “Hack” (Gina) Pauley; special cousins, Jerry Linville and Charlie Harless; and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The family would like to express a special thank you to Dr. Jagadeesh and Joe Ford, RN at the Cleveland Clinic Cancer Center; Dr. Fonibe, Fifi Wolfe, RN, all the nursing staff at CAMC Cancer Center and HospiceCare.

Service will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 22, 2018 at Curry Funeral Home in Alum Creek with Pastors Craig Cook, Raymond Jordan and Jim Fershee officiating. Viewing for the family and friends will be held two hours prior to the service at the funeral home.

A celebration of life dinner will follow the service at the Lions Club Park Community Building, Alum Creek, WV.

Per Phil’s wishes, he will be cremated and laid to rest at Mays Cemetery, Yawkey, WV.  In lieu of flowers, please make memorial donations to CAMC Cancer Center, 3415 MacCorkle Ave., SE, Charleston, WV 25304.

 

Charles “Chuck” Breedlove

Charles “Chuck” Breedlove, 58, of Yawkey, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, September 12, 2018.

He was predeceased by his parents, Jerry & Anna Mae Breedlove, and brothers, Timmy and Bill.

He was owner/operator of Chuck’s Auto Service at Yawkey.

Chuck is survived by his wife, Sarah, children, Jessi (Cameron) Breedlove-McKinney, Clayton (Amanda) Breedlove, & Matt (Melinda) Breedlove, brothers, Junior, Kevan, Rick, & Rob Breedlove, sister, Pam Hughes, 8 grandchildren, Jordan, Ian, Rylee, Sienna, Charli, Carter, KayLeigh & Cole and many other family and friends who will greatly miss him.

Service will be 4:00 p.m. Saturday, September 15, 2018 at Curry Funeral home, Alum Creek, with Pastor Robert McCallister officiating.  Family and friends will gather from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. prior to the service.  A private burial for the family will follow at Orchard Hills Memory Gardens, Yawkey.

Annette Robinson Ferrell

Annette Robinson Ferrell, 92, died peacefully at The Hodges Center in Charleston WV, Monday September 10, 2018.
Betty Annette Robinson was born at home in Mannington, WV on July 9, 1926, the daughter of Nelson “Net” Robinson and Hazel Shull Gooding Robinson. Net was a mining camp housing contractor and Marion County Delegate to the WV State Legislature. During the Depression the family moved to their country farm south of Mannington and later to Enterprise, WV where they operated a gas station and grocery store. Annette graduated from Shinnston High School and obtained her BS in Home Economics at West Virginia University. She was a member of Chi Omega Sorority.
In 1947 she met and married fellow student William “Bill” Ferrell of Danville, WV, who had served in the Navy during WWII. In 1949, William graduated with a BS in Petroleum Engineering from WVU. The couple moved to Charleston, WV where Bill was hired by the United Fuel Gas Co. as a pipeline engineer. The company became a part of the Columbia Gas System and Bill rose through the ranks to become Chairman and CEO of Columbia Gas Transmission.
Annette was an exceptional home maker, seamstress and devoted mother to a daughter and two sons. She was a member of Charleston Baptist Temple and several garden clubs; she loved to play bridge and travel.
To the end she was a Mountaineer Fan – listening to radio play-by-play while watching the game on a muted TV with pictures of team stars on her dresser alongside those of family and friends.
She was preceded in death by husband Bill; half-brothers Ralph and John Gooding and half-sister Brooksie Robinson Stewart.
She is survived by her daughter Barbara Ferrell Whitaker of Mobile; two sons: Bill and Cynthia Ferrell of Los Angeles and Rob and Martha Ferrell of Charleston; four grandchildren: Dr. Chase Ferrell of Washington DC, Tess Ferrell of New York City, John and Ann Ferrell of Alexandria VA, and JW Ferrell of Washington DC.
A graveside service will be held at the Forks of Coal Cemetery at a later date.

 

Carolyn Sue Neely

Carolyn Sue Neely, 85, of Winfield, WV, went to be with the Lord Saturday, September 8, 2018.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard “Dale” Neely.

Entombment will be at the Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens West Virginia Mausoleum in Cross Lanes, WV.

There will be no services.

Ruth Elizabeth Lawrence Simmons of Charleston, WV, departed this earthly life on September 5, 2018 after 82 years of faithful service to Christ.

Ruth was born July 11, 1936 to Bradley R. and Estelle Moore Lawrence. She grew up in a full house having 8 brothers (2 surviving) and 8 sisters (7 surviving).

She was a licensed social worker having served in that role for various agencies throughout her long-distinguished career.

Ruth was a member of the Abounding Grace Church of God, Chesapeake, where she enjoyed leading, singing and teaching. She loved helping people. Her life was truly one of dedicated Christian service.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory her husband of 63 years, Rev. John H. Simmons; children, John (Lisa), Henry, Charles (Jennifer), James (Glenda) and Mary Beth (Allen); 14 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Services to celebrate Ruth’s life will be held 3:00 p.m. Sunday, September 9, 2018, at the Abounding Grace Church of God, 12047 MacCorkle Ave., Chesapeake. Burial will follow at Witcher Cemetery, Belle.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Saturday, September 8, at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek and also one hour prior to the service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations in Ruth’s name be sent to the New River Ranch Children’s Home, PO Box 178, Fayetteville, WV 25840.

 

Justin R. Clark

Justin R. Clark, 42, of Nitro, WV, went to be with the Lord Saturday, September 1, 2018.

He was a 1994 graduate of George Washington High School and a 1999 graduate of WV State College. Justin was a former employee of Rite Aid Distribution Center and currently employed at AWP in Nitro. He was a member of Cobbs Creek Missionary Baptist Church.

Justin was loving and caring, and so loved by his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Robert Clark and Robert and Carol Antolini; great grandparents, Bob and Ruth Foleno, Carmen and Pauline Antolini and Helen DiDonna; and aunt, Linda Clark.

Left to cherish his memory are his parents, Dave and Robbie Clark; grandmother, Betty L. Clark; uncles Thomas A. Clark and Kenny (Michelle) Antolini; cousins, Corey (Dawn) Clark, Kristin Clark, Brooklyn and Presley Antolini; along with many great aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Service will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, September 8, at Curry Funeral Home in Alum Creek with Pastors Butch Leadman and Clyde Gwin officiating.  Burial will follow at Orchard Hills Memory Gardens, Yawkey.

The family will receive friends 2 hours prior to the service at the funeral home.

Richard Lynn “Dick” Rabel, 60, of South Charleston, WV went to be with the Lord Tuesday, August 28, 2018 at the home of his brother, Ronnie Rabel.

He was a graduate of George Washington High School. Dick worked as a heavy equipment operator through the years for E.E. Moore Co., Orders & Haynes Paving Co., WV Paving, Inc., and retired from Wiseman Construction Co. in Charleston, WV. He was a member of the Operating Engineers Local 132 and also a member of Hopewell Independent Missionary Baptist Church.

Dick dearly loved hunting, fishing and shooting long ranges of 600 yards or more. He won several state competitions hitting several shots within one inch of the target. He also killed a black bear at a distance of 600 yards.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Violet Rabel and stepmother, Betty Rabel.

Dick is survived by his daughter, Gina (William) Gunnoe; father, Hubert; brothers, Hubert Lane (Susan), Ronnie (Teresa), Terry, and Chuck (Anita) Rabel; grandson, Reese Gillispie; and nieces and nephews, Rachel, John H. (Emily), Jonathan Lane, Will, Elizabeth, Bailey, McKenna, Jessica and Anna.

Service will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 1, at Curry Funeral Home in Alum Creek with Pastor Charles Kidd officiating. A private burial will be held at a later date on the Rabel Farm. The family will receive friends 2 hours prior to the service.

Marceline Nena Ryan Smith

Marceline Nena Ryan Smith, age 88, of Charleston, WV, went home to be with the Lord, after a steady decline of her health for several months.  She passed away Thursday, August 23, 2018 at 7:20 p.m.  in her home where she wanted to be at her time of passing.

She was the most loving, caring, kind-hearted person that one could ever ask for.  We will cherish all the good times, laughing about all the silly things that would happen.  We will remember the sad times together too.

Marceline was the daughter of the late Bernie & Lillie Ryan of Alkol, WV.  She was married to Leffie Smith, Jr., who passed December 3, 2013 of Charleston, WV.  She has a daughter, Robin Mann, Richmond, VA, and her husband Conklin Mann IV; son, Barry Smith, Charleston, and wife Dottie Smith, son, Kevin Smith, Charleston, and her grandchildren, Trevor Smith, Charleston, WV, Melissa Dryden, Richmond, VA, Rick Boogher, Richmond, VA, and Brian Mann, Richmond, VA, and one great-grandchild, Sydney Dryden, Richmond, VA.

Marceline has two surviving sisters, Marteena Burdette, Charleston, WV, and Loretta Pauley, Mason, WV, and a host of nieces and nephews.
