Vaden LoftisVaden Kyle Loftis, 88. of Charleston passed away Sunday, September 13, 2015 at Dunbar Center after a long illness.

He was head produce clerk at Kroger with 32 years service.  He was a U. S. Navy veteran of  WW II and the Korean War; and  also a member of the American Legion in Dunbar.

Vaden was preceded in death by his parents, Omer and Sylvia Loftis;  step-son, Rodney Loftis and grandson, Matthew.

He is survived by his companion of 47 years, Jo Ann Richardson; daughter, Judith Mullen; sons, Robert Kyle (Wendy) Loftis; Gregory Dee (Ruthie) Loftis; Benjamin (Regina) Loftis and Gary Wayne (Sandy) Loftis; 6 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 16, at Curry Funeral Home in  Alum Creek with Pastor Art Hage officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery.   The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family request contributions be made to HospiceCare, 1606 Kanawha Blvd., W., Charleston, WV  25387-2536.

Margaret E. Madden

Margaret E. Madden, 78, of Charleston, went home to the Lord Thursday, September 11, 2105 at CAMC Memorial Division.

She was born in Lincoln County to Paul and Zoe Brogan Madden.

Margaret went to school in Lincoln County.  She was a former employee of Putnam County Aging and attended the First Church of Nazarene in Hurricane.

She was preceded in death by two sons, William Rocky Pauley and Dennis “Rusty” Pauley.

She is survived by daughters, Jacqueline Adams and Twila LaBar; sons, Mark D. Pauley  and Brian K. Pauley; brother, Dennis Madden; half-brother, Roger Madden; half-sister, Linda Freeman; 8 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren who all adored her.

Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. Monday, September 14, at Curry Funeral Home in Alum Creek with Pastor Frank Chapman officiating.  Burial will follow in Cunningham Memorial Park in St. Albans.  The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service.

Margaret had eyes that saw the best in people, a heart that forgave the worst, a mind that forgot the bad and a soul that never lost faith in God.

Ernest Ray Pauley

Ernest PauleyErnest Ray Pauley, 88, of Dunbar went home to the Lord Thursday, September 10, 2015 at Thomas Memorial Hospital in South Charleston.

He was a WWII Army Veteran.  He worked as a butcher for Gunnoe’s Country Sausage and later was the owner of Pauley’s Grocery in Charleston.  Ernest was a member and also one of the founders of Mountain Heights Church in South Charleston where he served as a Sunday School Superintendent, deacon and Sunday School teacher.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Lola Bell Pauley; great grandsons, Jaykob Carter and Jonathan Michael Moles; three sisters and one brother.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Mary; daughters, Sharon (Mike) Moles, Deborah (Jim) Elzey, Cathy Pauley and Rhonda (Mark) Hunt; son, Steve (Mary) Pauley; sisters, Joyce Griffith and Linda Bailey; 11 Grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.

Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, September 12th, at Curry Funeral Home in Alum Creek with Pastors Benny Pauley and Walter Allen officiating.  Burial will follow at Graceland Memorial Park with military graveside rites conducted by the St. Albans VFW Post 6418 and the American Legion Post 73.   The family will receive friends 2 hours prior to the service at the funeral home.

Evelyn Maxine Teel

EVELYN TEELEvelyn Maxine Teel, 84, of Charleston went to be with her loved ones who have passed on, Wednesday, September 2, 2015.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Pam Sigmon, son, Alan Teel and husband, Ira Teel and also her parents and three brothers.

She was a member of the Moose Lodge in Charleston.

She was a loving wife and mother and is survived by her daughter, Terri (Mark) Tribble, Charleston; brother & sister-in-law, David Lee (Jeanie) Wright, who were a wonderful help with Mom’s care; half-brother, Pierre Wright; two half-sisters, Mookie and Tammy; two grandsons, Troy Ratcliff and Codey Tribble; and  four great-grandchildren.  Evelyn will also be sadly missed by many other family and friends.

Services will be 1:00pm Saturday, September 5, 2015 at Curry Funeral Home Chapel, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.  Burial will follow at Graceland Memorial Park, South Charleston.

A special thank you to Dave and Brett Wright and their wives for all their support during this trying time.

Vernard McCormick

Vernard “Bernie” McCormick, 84 of Sod, formerly of Woodville, left this world to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, August 28, 2015 at Valley Health Center in Spring Hill.  He is preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Olive Neal McCormick.  He is survived by his sister, Sussie McCormick Pauley; his three sisters in law, Nancy M. McCormick, Peggy McCormick and Madeline McCormick; and his fourteen nieces and nephews.

It was Vernard’s request that there would be no services.  His final resting place will be at Pauley Family Cemetery in Joe’s Creek, WV.

 

Maxine E. Pistoria

Maxine E. Pistoria, 95, of So. Charleston, passed away Wednesday, August 19, 2015 at Golden Living Riverside, at St. Albans after a long illness.

She was preceded in death by her husband Leonard Pistoria, daughter Shirley Turley and granddaughter Lori Neely.

She is survived by: her grand daughters, Kathy Bates of St. Albans, Tammy Dye (Bobby) and LaDonna Murphy (David) of So. Charleston, 13 great grandchildren, 21 great-great grandchildren, 2 great-great-great grandchildren and brother Charles Turley of Ohio.

There will be no services.

Madison Lynn Stanley and Luke Preston Stanley, infant twins of Jason & Melinda Stanley of Tornado, went home to be with the Lord, Thursday, August 13, 2015.

They are survived by maternal grandmother: Marilyn Preston, maternal great -grandmother, Linda Hager, paternal grandparents, Lonnie and Susie Stanley and uncle, Chris Preston.

There will be no services.

 

Paul Griffith

Paul GriffithPaul Phillip Griffith, 78, of McCorkle went home to the Lord, Monday August 17, 2015 at home after a long illness.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Cornes and Belva Griffith, wife Vercie, sisters Wanda Brogan and Thelma Gillenwater.

He was a retired construction worker an Army Veteran of the Korean War and a Member of McCorkle Freewill Baptist Church.

He is survived by his brothers; Frank Griffith of Sod and Butch Griffith of Alum Creek,

Service will be 2:00 PM Wednesday August 19, at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, with Pastors Frank Chapman and Ron Scott officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery at McCorkle.

Family and friends will gather 1 hour prior to the service Wednesday at the funeral home.

 

George Edward Hess

George Hess And wifeGeorge Edward Hess, 91, of South Charleston, went home to be with the Lord Thursday, August 13, 2015 at Teays Valley Center in Hurricane.

He  retired from Union Carbide in South Charleston.  George was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church where he served as a Trustee.  He served in the Army during WWII and fought in 5 major battles.  He was also  co-owner operator of Hess’s  Gulf in Alum Creek and could be found there when he wasn’t in Canada fishing.  He was a member of the Alum Creek VFW Post 4768.

George was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Mary Alice; parents, Charles Edward and Etha Lee Hess; brothers, Freddie, James, Charles, Eugene and Kenneth.

He is survived by his brother, Joe (Eloise) Hess; and many nieces, nephews, other family members and friends who will greatly miss him.

Service will be 1:00 p.m. Monday, August 17, 2015 at Curry Funeral Home in Alum Creek with Pastor’s Dwight McClure and Dorris Walls officiating.  Entombment will follow at Graceland Memorial Park Mausoleum with military honors conducted by the Alum Creek VFW Post 4768.   The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

 

Ronald SampsonRonald Stephen (Graley) Sampson, born Feb. 12, 1977 passed from this life on August 11, 2015 at home.  Ronnie was a good father to his 3 children and 1 stepson.  Ronnie is preceded in death by his maternal grandfather Donald Henry Smith, who cherished the ground he walked on.  Paternal grandfather John Graley, paternal grandparents William O. & Betty Sampson, and James & Phyllis Starcher.

He is survived by one son, Jacob Fields, two daughters, Kyrah Jade and Braelyn Rain Sampson and their mother Autumn Mosteller;  stepson, Jordan Stone; father, Ronald Graley, mother and stepdad, Vanessa and James Starcher, two brothers Derek and Travis Sampson and half-sister, Jessika Graley; one stepbrother James Starcher; one step-sister, Jessica (Joey) Beane and   maternal grandmother, Loraine Smith. Also survived by a host of uncles, aunts, cousins and friends who all love and miss him greatly.

Service will be 5:30pm Saturday, August 15, 2015 at Curry Funeral Home Chapel, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek, with Pastor Dan McCormick officiating.   Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.  Burial will follow at Forks of Coal Cemetery, Alum Creek.
