Carl Eugene Thomas, 81 of St. Albans, died Saturday, January 4, 2003 at Heartland of Charleston after a long illness.

He was retired from ARCO Steel, a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, Tornado and was a W WII veteran. He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Mae Miller Thomas.

He is survived by: Son: Paul Thomas; Step-Son: Carrie Mooney; Sister: Virginia Thomas Ennis of St Albans; 7 Grandchildren; 12 Great Grandchildren.

Services will be 2:00 PM on Tuesday, January 7, 2003 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Pastor James Poe officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Tornado. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Tuesday.

Arietta Tyree Arnett

Arietta Tyree Arnett of St. Albans, passed away on Saturday, January 4, 2003 at CAMC Memorial Division after a short illness.

She was a faithful, loving mother of three children, three grandchildren and one great grandchild. Arietta was a long-time dedicated and active member of Highlawn Baptist Church which she dearly loved. She also was a retired cook at Belvil Elementary.

She was preceded in death by her oldest child, Linda.

She is survived by her: Husband: Ralph; 2 Sons: Al of South Carolina; Denny of St Albans; Grandchildren: Jon, Mark and Davin Arnett; Great Grandchild: Alexis; Sister: Doris Watson of White Sulphur Springs; Brother: Clayton Tyree of Lewisburg.

Services will be 11:00 AM Tuesday, January 7, 2003 at Highlawn Baptist Church, St. Albans with Pastor Dr. Joe Hyde officiating. Burial will be in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans. Friends may call from 7 to 9 PM Monday at the church. In lieu of flowers family request donations be made to Highlawn Baptist Church Building Fund, 2304 Jefferson Avenue, St. Albans, W V 25177. Charles Roosevelt McCallister

Charles Roosevelt McCallister, 69 of Paris, Illinois, formerly of McCorkle, departed this life on Friday, January 3, 2003 after a long illness.

He was an auto mechanic and an Air Force veteran.

He is survived by his five sons, Charles Jr. of Nitro; Paul W. and Robert R. of Sod; Kerry D. of Yawkey; and Paul of San Jose, CA; six daughters, Lynn Holstein of Alum Creek; Sandra Bakke of Pflugerville, TX; Sarah F. Breedlove of Yawkey; Amy McCallister of Champagne, IL; Amanda McCallister and Alisa McCallister of Paris, II,; three brothers, Pat McCallister of Chazleston; Bub McCallister of Akron, OH; Bill McCallister of Kingman, IN; two sisters, Ruth McCormick of Danville; Pauline Clazk of McCorkle; 20 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, on Wednesday, January 8, 2003 at 2:00 PM with Pastor Gene Pauley officiating. Burial will be held in Forks of Coal Memorial Park, Alum Creek. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Paul A. “SONNY” Perry, 62 of St. Albans past away Wednesday, January 1, 2003.

Paul was born in Fredericksburg, Virginia to the late Menard and Bertha Perry.  He was a retired construction superintendent with Union Carbide, owner of Perry Plumbing of St. Albans, an Air Force veteran.

He was survived by his: Wife of 41 years: Audra; Children and Spouses: Leslie and Dan McCormick of Liberty, WV; Susan and Chris Lansdale of Hurricane, WV; Paul A. Perry, II and Sonora of Cross Lanes, WV; Grandchildren: Briana Barnett, Anthony Perry, Ricky Barnett and Cassie Perry; Sisters and Spouses: Patricia and Richard Woodfin of Westpoint, VA; Marjorie and Lloyd Broyles of Fredericksburg, VA.

Memorial service will be held, Saturday, January 4, 2003, at 3:00 PM at St. Peters United Methodist Church, St. Albans with the Rev. James H. Reed officiating. Family will receive friends from 2 to 3 PM at the church. Merdith “Jerry” Breedlove, Sr.

Merdith “Jerry” Breedlove, Sr., 71, of Yawkey, died Sunday, December 29, 2002 at Thomas Memorial Hospital, South Charleston, after a long illness.
He was retired member of Laborers Local 1353 in Charleston.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mal and Eulah Breedlove and his son, Timmy Breedlove.

He is survived by his daughter, Pamela Hughes of Sod; five sons, Merdith Jr., Charles, and William all of Yawkey; Kevin of Sumerco, Richard of Sod, and Robert of South Charleston; two sisters, Jean Curry of Yawkey, Willidean Cooper of Titusville, FL; one brother, D. W. Breedlove of Mims, FL; 21 Grandchildren; 13 Great Grandchildren.

Services will be held at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, on Tuesday, December 31, 2002 at 7:00 PM with Minister Hazold Burns officiating. Burial will be held in Orchard Hills Memory Gardens, Yawkey. Friends may call two hours prior to the service at the funeral home.

Quincy Tony Adams

Quincy Tony Adams, 67, of Sod, died Sunday, December 29, 2002 at CAMC Memorial Division after a long illness.

He was a retired Sgt. First Class in the U.S. Army where he served in the Signal Corp. He was a veteran of the Vietnam conflict. He was retired from the West Virginia State Library Commission and was 1955 graduate of Charleston High School, member of the Cobbs Creek Missionary Baptist Church, Sod, and of the Coal River Model Railroad Club at Danville.

He was preceded in death by his father, David H. Adams and step-father, Henry Linville.

He is survived by his wife, Janet; one son and daughter-in-law, David and Leslie Adams of Springfield, MO; mother, Annalee Kinder of Danville; one brother, David B.F. Adams; one sister, Zoe Butler of Mazlington, AK; special aunt, Ethel Hale of Huntington and Uncle Eugene Norman of Charleston.

Services will be held at Cobbs Creek Missionary Baptist Church, Sod, on Wednesday, January 1, 2003 at 2:00 PM with Pastor Clarence Hutton and Pastor Mike Kordusky officiating. Burial with military graveside rites conducted by the Benny Padilla VFW Post #4768 will be held in Lively Cemetery, Sod. Friends may call two hours prior to the service at the church. Delores Midkiff Matthews

Delores Midkiff Matthews, 85 of Tenrra Alta, formerly of Sumerco, went home to Heaven on Saturday, December 28, 2002 at Hopemont Hospital in Terra Alta after a long illness.

She was a member of Cobbs Creek Missionary Baptist Church at Sod.

She was preceded in death by her son, David Matthews, three sisters, June Midkiff, Eunice Barker, Thelma McCormick and a brother, John Asa Midkiff Jr.
She is survived by her one daughter, Frances Elkins of Midlothian, Virginia; one brother, Tommy Midkiff of Bettendorf, Iowa; six grandchildren; seven great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be 1:00 PM Tuesday, December 31, 2002 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Rev. Louie McCormick officiating. Burial will be in Midkiff Cemetery at Sumerco. Friends may call one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.

Dollie M. Allen

Dollie M. Allen, 75 of St. Albans, died Tuesday, December 17, 2002 at Sunbridge Care and Rehabilitation in Putnam county after a long illness.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of God.

She is survived by her one son, Sean Allen of LaGrange, Kentucky; four granddaughters, Amy Perry and Kelly Davis both of Hurricane; Rachel and Lillian Allen both of LaGrange, Kentucky; three great-grandchildren, Madison Davis, Emily and Zane Perry all of Hurricane; four sisters, Ruth Justice of Wilmington, North Carolina; Comie Barker of Ohio; Barbara Linville of Alum Creek; Jane Blankenship of Scott Depot; three brothers, John and Ned Midkiff both of Alum Creek and Homer Midkiff of Clendenin.

A graveside service will be held in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans, on Thursday, December 19, 2002 at 11:00 AM with Pastor Frank Chapman officiating. There will not be a visitation. Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, is in care of arrangements.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church, South Charleston, the South Charleston Eastern Star and the Alpha Delta Kappa Educational Sorority. She was a retired school teacher of Lincoln and Kanawha Counties. She served in W WII as a WAC. She was the widow of Denver Peck.
