Virginia Curry Beury

Virginia Curry Beury, 97 of Charleston, died Thursday, July 11, 2002 in Heartland of Charleston after a long illness.

She was a retired secretary for Charleston General Hospital with 20 years service. She was a member of St. Marks United Methodist Church, Charleston. Mrs. Beury was bom in Lincoln County and was a resident of Kanawha County for 90 years. She also was preceded in death by her husband Richard L. Beury.

She is survived by her: 3 Nieces: Margazet McClure of Sherman, TX; Ann Curry Piazza and Billie Curry Kirk both of Newazk, DE; 1 Nephew: Edward Curry of Virginia Beach, VA.

Memorial service will be held at the St. Marks United Methodist Church, Charleston on Wednesday, July 24, 2002 at 10:30 AM with Rev. Mark Fisher officiating. Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek is in charge of arrangements.

Alonza “Tommy” Wiseman

Alonza “Tommy” Wiseman, 65, of Charleston, WV passed away on Friday, July 5, 2002 at Hubbard Hospice House, Charleston.

He was a maintenance man at the YWCA. He was preceded in death by his parents Daniel & Gretchen Wiseman; his wife, Shirley Kidd Wiseman and 4 sons.

He is survived by: 4 Daughters: Rita Johnson of Sanford, FL Teresa Duckett of Atlanta, GA; Terri Smith of Martinsburg, WV; Betty Wiseman of Athens, WV; 7 Grandchildren.

Joseph Smith, 77 of Alum Creek, died Friday, June 28, 2002 at Summersville Memorial Hospital after a long illness.

He was a retired carpenter and a member of the Souls Harvest Fellowship, Nitro and a Army veteran of WWII.

He is survived by his: Wife: Anna; 1 Daughter: Pam Hancock of Alum Creek; Foster Son: Lee Turpin of Hamlin; 1 Brother: Roger Lee Smith of Massillon, OH; 1 Sister: Gladys Midkiff of Alum Creek; 2 Grandchildren; 1 Great Grandchild.

A graveside service will be held in Forks of Coal Cemetery, Alum Creek, on Wednesday, July 3, 2002 at 10:00 AM with Pastor Paul Cogar officiating. In lieu of flowers make donations to Anna Smith, PO Box 484, Alum Creek, WV 2s003. Curry Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Gary D. Williams, 62 of St. Albans, died Wednesday, June 26, 2002 at Thomas Memorial Hospital So. Charleston, after a long illness.

He was a former deputy sheriff for Lincoln County. He worked in sales for General Electric and Carrier Heating and Cooling. He attended the Maranatha Fellowship in St Albans.

He is survived by his: Wife: Shonet; Dau: Robin Michele Hudson of St Albans; Son: Gary Dean Jr. of Macon, Ga; Sisters: Isabella Mason of Alum Creek; Kathi Risk of Hurricane; Bros: Gene Williams of Sod; Billy Williams of Sutton; Jack Williams of Teays Valley; 7 grandchildren: Nick & Sarah Beth Torman, Corey, Meghan &Matt Hudson, Zack & Kyle Chapman; 2 great grandchildren.

Services will be 11:00 am on Saturday, June 29, 2002 at the Curry Funeral Home Chapel, Alum Creek, with Pastor James Wright &Pastor Terry Hogue officiating. Burial will be in Forks of Coal Cemetery at Alum Creek. Friends may call from 6:30 to 8:30 on Friday at the funeral home.

Hassell M. Pauley, 71, of Sod, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 19, 2002 after along battle with cancer. He was a retired construction worker from Laborers Loca11353. He was a member &trustee of McCorkle Freewill Baptist Church.

He is survived by: Wife: Doris Jean Pauley of Sod, WV; Son: Gene Pauley & wife, Robin of St. Albans, WV; Daughter: Melinda Sue Graley and husband, Dwight of Emmons, WV; 3 Brothers: Junior, Freddie & David Pauley all of Sod, WV; 6 Sisters: Deloris Justice & Phyllis Pauley both of Sod, WV; Betty Anderson & Tink Rigney both of Dunbar, WV; Teresa Hurley of Griffithsville, WV; Sharon Elkins of Richmond, VA; 6 Grandchildren; 2 Great Grandchildren; 2 Step-Great Grandchildren.

Shirley A. Shaffer, 67, of Charleston went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, June 18, 2002 at Thomas Memorial Hospital.

She was a homemaker and a Christian. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman A. (Red) Shaffer and 2 brothers -William “Corky” and Ricky Copeland.

She is a member of God’s Tabernacle, Spring Hill and a former member of Valley Drive Church of God Mission. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Bobby G. Barker; her parents, Homer & Mildred Chafin; and sister, Edith Nunn.

Mabel P. McCormick, 87 of South Charleston, died Saturday, June 8, 2002 at CAMC Memorial Division after a long illness.

She was a life long resident of Kanawha and Lincoln County, a graduate and benefactor of Alderson Broaddus College, a school teacher in Lincoln and Kanawha County for 37 years and a member of the Forks of Coal Missionary Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edgel McCormick.

She is survived by her special niece, Phyllis A. Danforth of Springfield, MO; four half brothers, Arthur H. Dunlap of Crab Orchard, W V; Ohley R. Dunlap of South Charleston, W V; Carl R. Dunlap of St. Albans, WV; Jackie L. Dunlap of St. Albans, WV; four half sisters, Betty Holland of Charleston, WV; Jonnie Green of Bridgeport, WV; Margaret Weaver of Hilton Head Is1and,SC; Mary Lou Oliver of Hilton Head Island, SC; 2step-brothers, Wilbur Carlos Dunlap of Mesa, AZ; and Lowell Dunlap of Mesa, AZ; and many nieces and nephews.
