Clifford Morris McClure

Clifford Morris McClure, 90, of Sumerco was taken home to heaven with angels by his side on Wednesday, January 4, 2012 at the Lincoln Nursing & Rehab Center. Born December 20, 1921 in Lincoln County and was a longtime resident of Sumerco.

He was an operator for Union Carbide with 36 years of service and a member of Cobbs Creek Missionary Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Zulema, also his parents, Charles and Nora McClure, and all of his siblings, Esther, Lillie, Mavis, Albert, Booker, Ellison, Lota, Myrtle, Forest, Mayward, Braxton, and Herbert,

Clifford cherished his family and friends and leaves behind his daughter Vickie and her husband, Charles Runyan of Sod; grandson, Chris Runyan of North Manchester, IN; granddaughter, Lori (Brian) Woodrum of Sod, WV, and great-grandchildren, Elizabeth and Charlie Woodrum.

He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews and friends who loved him dearly.

Clifford was a faithful, loving and devoted Christian, husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was always there with a smile on his face to lend a helping hand. He will truly be missed.

A service to celebrate Clifford’s life will be at 1:00pm, Saturday, January 7th at the Curry Funeral Home Chapel, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek, with Pastors Phil Suiter and Robert ‘Butch’ Leadman officiating. Burial with military graveside rites conducted by the Alum Creek VFW Post 4768 will be at Lively Cemetery, Sod.

Family and friends may gather from 6:00 – 8:00pm on Friday, January 6, at Curry Funeral Home.

A special thanks to Alum Creek Medical Center and the Lincoln Nursing Home for taking such good care of Zulema and Clifford McClure. Your kindness and special attention was greatly appreciated.

Macy Brumfield Bell

Macy Brumfield Bell, 94, of Alum Creek, WV, passed from this earth on Monday, January 2, 2012, after a long beautiful life.

Macy was born on December 20, 1917, the daughter of B.W. “Bernie” and Goldie Young Brumfield of Griffithsville in Lincoln County. She was a child of the depression growing up on a farm with 13 other siblings. She graduated from Duval High School where she met and married a handsome young man, Rodney Rexford Bell, and they settled in Alum Creek, Kanawha County, to raise two daughters. In her last years she made her home with daughter and son-in-law, Jane and Doyle Hudson of Alum Creek. As her caregivers, they provided family members with comfort in knowing that she was cared for in her final years.

 Macy was a member of the Oakwood Church of Christ and served the Lord over her many years. She was a true believer in the 4-H program and in her earlier years, she served as a leader of the local 4-H club.

 Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband and 9 siblings: Beulah, Corbett, Cabell, Calvin, “Dyke”, Frank, Gary, Glenna, Bernie, Ralph and James Russel.

 Left to cherish her in their hearts are her two daughters: Jane (Doyle) Hudson of Alum Creek and Judy Cox of Charleston. Macy was blessed with 5 grandchildren: Kathy Holtsclaw of St. Albans; Pamela Bailey (Thomas) of Partlow, VA; Julie Facemire (Lovell) of Elkview, Melinda “Mendy” Cox of South Charleston and Rodney Cox (Jennifer) of Walton. Additionally, she lived to cherish the joys of having five great grandchildren: James Bailey of Partlow, VA; Evan Bailey of Fredericksburg, VA, along with Gwendolyn, Madeline and Joscelyn Cox of Walton. Macy is also survived by four sisters: Eldona Rife, Betty McGraw, Eloise Fishback and Wilma Jean Dolan.

Service will be 11:00 am Friday, January 6, 2012 at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek with Minister Jonathan Chaffin officiating. Burial will follow in Orchard Hills Memory Gardens, Yawkey. Family and friends will gather from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Jane M. (Holtsclaw) Holovic

Jane M. (Holtsclaw) Holovic, 72 of Charleston went home to be with the Lord Friday December 30, 2011 at CAMC Memorial Hospital Charleston after a short illness.

She was preceded in death by two sons; Charles Holtsclaw, III and Richard Holtsclaw.

 She was a retired employee of the State of West Virginia and a member of the Bible Center Church.

Jane is survived by her husband of 18 years John J. Holovic, daughter; Melondy Mooney of Charleston, son; Mark Holtsclaw of Fishers, IN, step sons; Daniel J. Holovic of Daniels, WV and Scott E. Holovic of Wake Forest, NC, step daughters; Teresa Jane O’Conner of Charlotte, NC and Cathi Richards of South Charleston, and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.

A service to celebrate Jane’s life will be 1:00 PM Wednesday January 4, 2012 at Bible Center Church Charleston with Pastor David Jones officiating. Entombment will follow at Graceland Memorial Park South Charleston.

Family and friends will gather from 6 to 8 PM Tuesday at the Bible Center Church 100 Bible Center Drive, Charleston.

In lieu of flower the family suggest donation to Union Mission Ministries P.O. Box 112, Charleston, WV 25321-9982.

Bernard Dale Neely

Bernard “Dale” Neely, 81, of Hurricane, WV went home to be with the Lord on Friday, December 23, 2011 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Huntington surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on December 24, 1929 in Core, WV. He was preceeded in death by his parents, Guy Leslie and Maggie Olive Neely; his brothers: Leslie, Millard, Kenneth, Howard, and Gene; and sisters, Olive, Pauline, Irene and Grace.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Carolyn; four sons and their children:Craig and Denise, and their children, Keaton and Mickensie; Tom, and his children, Taylor and Drew; Derrick and wife, Cindy and Mark and his children, Peyton, Hunter and Blake. He is also survived by sister, Joan and brother, Ab.

 

Dale served in the Korean war as a member of the United States Marine Corp, and retired from the telephone company with 32 years of service.He was a faithful member of the Davis Creek Church of the Nazarene.

A service celebrating his life will begin at 7:30 pm Tuesday, December 27, at the Davis Creek Church of the Nazarene, South Charleston with Pastor John Anderson officiating. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 7:30 pm prior to the service. A graveside service will be held 11:00 am Wednesday, December 28th at Tyler Mountain Memorial Gardens WV Mausoleum, Cross Lanes.The family would like to thank the wonderful neighbors who helped with Dale’s care, St. Mary’s home health care, and especially for the kind, compassionate care he received from the St. Mary’s Medical Center staff in the neurology unit.In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Dale’s name to the Davis Creek Church of the Nazarene, 102 Nazarene Drive, South Charleston, WV 25309.

Pamela Woods

Pamela Woods 64 of Alum Creek went home to the Lord Wednesday December 7, 2011 at home after a short illness.

She was preceded in death by her parents John and Mary Smith Holstein and brother Bill Holstein.

She was a member of Forks of Coal Missionary Baptist Church Alum Creek.  Pam was a dedicated nurse and spent many years ministering , caring and comforting families and patients in their last stage of life.  She was a loving wife, mother and “Mawmaw”.

She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Elmer, daughter Dawn (Thomas) Hong of Hurricane, son Patrick (Sherry) Woods of St. Albans, sisters Retsy (Jack) Matheny of Liberty, Sheila (Dick) Kelly of Ocala, FL, and brother John Holstein of Charleston. Three grandchildren Joey, Matthew and Zoe.

A memorial service will be 11:30am Monday, December 12 at Forks of Coal Missionary Baptist Church Alum Creek with Pastors Keith George, Frank Chapman and Gale Pauley officiating. Family and friends will gather one hour prior to the service at the church.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be sent to Hospice Care 1606 Kanawha Blvd. W. Charleston WV 25387-2536.

Janet Carol Ashire McCallitster

Janet Carol Abshire McCallister, 70, of South Charleston, WV, passed away on Tuesday, December 7, 2010 at CAMC-Memorial Division.

She was a January 1958 graduate of Sherman High, Seth, WV

She was preceded in death by her parents Griff Alvin Abshire and Nina Evalena Turley, husband, Davy, son, Griff Ivan McCallister, brother, James Abshire and sister, Jean Pauley.

She is survived by her children: Joetta (Tommy) Kuhn and David Angelo (Lynn) McCallister; 2 Grandsons: Cody Allan and Sean Austin McCallister and many close friends who will greatly miss her.

Services will be held at 1:00pm on Friday, December 10, 2010 at Curry Funeral Home with Eddie Belcher officiating. Burial will be at Andrew Jackson Turley Memorial Gardens, Alum Creek, WV.

Family and friends will gather one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Alum Creek Alliance, P.O. Box 76, Alum Creek, WV 25003.

Howard Escue

 Howard Escue, 93 of So. Charleston went home to the Lord Saturday, December 3, 2011.

He was preceded in death by his wife Lyndell Lucille and son Charles.

He was a member of Briar Creek Missionary Baptist Church and a retired coal miner.

Howard is survived by his son, David (JuLea) Escue of Charleston, daughter Carol (Charles) Lavender of Gainsville, FL, 4 grandchildren; Lisa (Eddie) Walker of Orlando, FL, Randy Lavender of Gainsville, FL Susan (Richard) Weingart Levelland, TX and Timothy Escue of Mesa, AZ and daughtger-in-law Shirley Escue of Levelland, TX, 7 great grandchildren.

A special thank you to Howard’s niece Katherine Brumfield for her loving care during his illness.

Service will be 11:00 am Thursday December 8, at Curry Funeral Home 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek with Pastors Gene Pauley and Tommy Roberts officiating. Burial will follow in Forks of Coal Memorial Park Alum Creek. Family and friends will gather from 6 to 8 pm Wednesday at the funeral home.

Stevenson Ray Page

Stevenson Ray “Punkin” Page, 52, of Ashford died Wednesday, November 23, 2011 at home.

He is survived by his sister, Ellen “Tincy” Owen of Emmons; brother, Ira “Manzy” Page of Ashford; nieces and nephew, Crystal Schoolcraft, Lily Owen and Ronnie Owen.

Funeral service will be 2:00 pm Thursday, December 1, 2011 at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek with Rev. Lee Turley and Rev. Charles Hardy officiating. Burial will follow in Barker Cemetery, Ashford. Family and friends will gather 1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

 

Ralph Arnett

Ralph Arnett, 88 of Dunbar formerly of St. Albans passed away peacefully in his sleep Monday November 27, 2011 at Sweetbrier Extended Living facility.

He was born February 2, 1923 in Spencer, West Virginia to the late Blanche and E. C. Arnott. He was one of 12 brothers and sisters.

Upon graduation from Spencer High School, Ralph went to Baltimore, Maryland to help build planes for WW II. There he met Arietta the love of his life. They moved to Charleston and later to St. Albans where they had 3 children. He worked for FMC as a maintenance foreman and retired in 1978.

Ralph was an active man who built his own house, was a faithful church member at Highlawn Baptist and enjoyed coaching the church youth basketball league. He was also an active member of the St. Albans High School Sponsors Club.

He was a wonderful family man and had an abundance of friends in the Kanawha Valley. Ralph never met a stranger and love to talk and tell stories about his past to friends and family.

He was also preceded in death by his wife Arietta, daughter Linda, brothers Omar, Harlan, Romie, Ray, Roy, and Herb, sisters Thelma, Beulah, Juanita, and Evelyn.

He is survived by his sons Alfred and wife Mary of Lewisburg, Denny and wife Debbie of St. Albans, grandsons: Jon of Huntington, Mark and wife Laura and great granddaughter Alexis of Virginia and grandson Davin of Charleston, and brother Kenny Arnott of Dunbar.

Ralph also loved the staff and residents at Sweetbriar. He lived there for 2 plus years, was easily a favorite there of many. The Arnett family thanks the staff there for keeping Ralph happy to the end.

Service will be at ll:00 AM Thursday December 1, 2011 at Highlawn Baptist Church in St. Albans with Pastor Mark Stauffer officiating. Burial will be at Cunningham Memorial Park St. Albans. Family and friends will gather from 6 to 8 pm Wednesday at the church.
