I just learned of Jim’s death and want to let Vada and Jamon know that they’re in my prayers. Jim was many things to many people; for me he was just the center of life in Alum Creek–Ryan’s Restaurant was a place where everyone felt welcome, entertained and loved. His passing leaves a hole in my memories of life in WV, but nothing compared to the hole it must leave in Vada’s and Jamon’s lives. I hope you can both find peace in knowing that it had to mean a great deal to Jim that you were there for him until the end.

I am just now being able to begin to put into words the sadness and joy of losing my brother in law Jim Ryan. I really can’t wrap my head around the fact that he’s no longer in his restaurant whipping up another crazy story. Doing what he did best …filling peoples stomaches and their hearts with love.
Sadness knowing I’ll never hear another awesome/scary story from the man who was nothing but loving and supportive of me and my kids and helped raised me as a teenager.
Joyful that he is with The Lord and no longer in pain and sickness and thankful that I was able to spend his last week in hospice him. It was truly a blessing!
Pastor Frankie stayed above and beyond his Professional and friend, family duty. Staying at night so the family could go home and being present when he gave his heart over to The Lord. I can never thank you enough sweet Frankie.
And I agree that the world will never be the same.

I am so sorry to hear of Jim’s passing. Jim was always there to welcome me back home from my military service each time I came to see him. I often heard that he would ask about me and how I was doing and that really kept me connected to my friends back in Alum Creek when I was so far away in other lands. I remember him driving buses for us school students and always going out of his way to help us all get home. I remember him taking the time to feed us at school with his lunch cart, giving us another option from the school cafe. He was always supportive of us when we played sports. A true man of the land and he cared for his county. We need more Jim Ryans, the world is less without him.

I graduated as a classmate with Jim in 1959. My heart has been saddened this week. Jim will be missed by many people, he was loved by many people, and he loved and cared for many people!!! When we had our first reunion Jim brought all the food. No one asked him and no one expected him to do it,,,it was just something he wanted to do. After that we started making one night of our reunion an evening at Ryans Restaurant. There could not have been a better place for a reunion for our class. We will all remember the good times and laughs we had listening to his stories. He enjoyed telling them as much as we enjoyed listening. He now joins a group of other members of our class and someday we will have the best reunion of all! And just maybe he will tell some more stories!

There is simply not enough space on this page to mention, what a great friend and cousin Jim was to me. I am so thankful, Jim finally made his decision to make Jesus. Lord and Savior of his life.

I know, Jim will be sorely missed by his many friends in Alum Creek and Lincoln County and all his many friends and customers, who loved hearing Jim tell the many stories about the Williams Family and those living in the Midway Community. We will meet again soon in another land.. Blessings Ryan Family. Vada, Jamin and Philp are in my prayers.

Thank You Rev. Frank Chapman for sincere interest in so many friends and family in the Alum Creek Area….
