Clifford Wayne Walton, 76, of South Charleston passed away Friday, August 4, 2023, at home.
In 1964, one month before his 18th birthday, Clifford survived a South Charleston railroad accident leaving him an amputee. Despite such a tragic accident, Clifford retired from the city of Charleston after 12 years of service and operated the South Charleston Café with his mother. He was an avid coin collector, a western fanatic, history buff and enjoyed reading the paper. He loved visiting relatives, reminiscing about his Smith Creek days.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Opie & Edith Clark Walton; sisters, Linda, Joyce & Clara; brother, Preston Walton; daughter, Penny Walton; paternal grandparents, Willard & Verna Shultz Walton; and in-laws, Elmer & Hester Clark Mallory.
Clifford is survived by his wife of 52 years, Mae Mallory Walton; children, Amy (Mark) Saunders, Joseph (Stacey) Walton, Adam Walton, & Jeffrey (Brittany) Walton; grandchildren, Samantha, Katie, Billy, Josie, Mason, & Macie; great grandchildren, Jac, Violet, Atticus, Joseph, Maelee, & Penelope; brother, Timmy Walton; and many nieces and nephews.
Service will be 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 9, 2023, at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Sterling Ball officiating. Burial will follow at Shultz Cemetery, Charleston. Family and friends will gather one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Phyllis Jean Weaver, 91, of Alum Creek went to be with the Lord, Friday, August 4, 2023, at Hospice West.
She was a homemaker. She was baptized at Cobbs Creek Missionary Baptist Church and also attended McCorkle Freewill Baptist Church.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 59 years, Robert W. Weaver; parents, Clarence & Margaret Pauley; brothers, Clarence (Eddie) Pauley & Donald R. Pauley; sister, Mary E. Harris; and an infant great granddaughter.
She is survived by children, Diann (Eb) Mitchell, Kathy (Sam) Sloan, Sherry (Jimmy) Cox, Robert Weaver, Jr., David (Rhonda) Weaver, & Michael (Chiquita) Weaver; her faithful dog, Tippy; brothers, James (Carol) Pauley, Gary (Dorothy) Pauley; sisters-in-law; Patricia Pauley & Greta Pauley; grandchildren, Nathan, Weston, Samantha, Adam, Robert, Daniel, Crystal, Patrick, Mark Alan, David & Luke; great grandchildren, Noah, Alexandria, Nolan, Brittany, Liam, Silas, Grant, Jayce, Isaiah, Wyatt, Clayton, Chandler, Chase, MiKayley, Connor, Ford, Harrison, Evie, & William; great great granddaughters, Kennleigh & Raelynn.
Funeral service will be on what would have been their 73rd wedding anniversary, Thursday, August, 10, 2023, at 12:00 p.m., at Curry Funeral Home with Evangelist Stephen Pauley officiating. Burial will follow at Graceland Memorial Park, South Charleston. Vistation will be 6-8 p.m., Wednesday, August 9, 2023, at the funeral home.

Bonnie Dale Brogan, 91, of Sod, WV, went home to be with the Lord, Sunday, July 30, 2023, at Hubbard Hospice House, Charleston, WV. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard “Peck” Brogan and parents Emory & Thelma Meickles Mannon.
She worked as a file clerk for the FBI and later worked as a cashier at Bob’s FasChek, and Peck’s E-Z Mart and was part-owner/operator with Peck in Riverside Restaurant. She was a member of McCorkle Freewill Baptist Church.
She is survived by her son, David (Teresa) Brogan, grandson, Michael (Becky) Brogan, and great-grandchildren, Eli, Emma, and Easton and step-grandchildren, Isaac and Alayna.
Service will be 5:00pm Tuesday, August, 1, 2023, at Curry Funeral Home with Pastor Isaiah Hatfield officiating. Burial will follow at Forks of Coal Memorial Park. Family and friends will gather one hour prior to the service.

Jeffrey “Jeff” Sanford Starcher, 57, of Loudendale , WV, passed away Friday, July 28, 2023, at home. He was preceded in death by his father, Ray Starcher and brother, Donald Ray Starcher and half-brother Donald Gillispie, and infant twin grandsons.
Jeff was a 1984 graduate of George Washington High School, and he worked as a stone mason and later years worked for Brown Grave Services. He was an outdoors man, loved fishing, coon hunting, and especially deer hunting. He was a Christian.
He is survived by his daughters, Rachel and Kaitlan Starcher, and their mother, Paula Sue Landers, daughter, Kelli Neil and her mother, Laverna Neil. He is also survived by his mother, Marian Starcher, brother, Rob Starcher, sister, Susan Moore, and grandchildren, Charlee Dawne, Kynleigh, and Kinsley, uncle, Brian Siegrist and great-aunt Betty Pennington.
Memorial Service will be 8:00pm Saturday, August 5, 2023, at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, with Pastor Frank Goff officiating. Family & friends will gather from 6:00 – 8:00pm at the funeral home.
Burial will be at a later date in the Starcher Cobb Cemetery, Island Creek.

The family of Dana Lee Craigo, 66, of Cross Lanes, WV, is saddened to announce her passing on Friday, July 28. Her loving husband, Doug, was with her when she made her flight to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, who she loved dearly.
Dana was born in Atlanta, GA, on March 5, 1957. She met the love of her life there and they were married on March 24, 1977. Dana worked as an administrative assistant for Wendy’s International and for Burdette Realty during her lifetime, but above all, she loved being a mother.
Left behind to cherish sweet memories are her husband, Doug, and her pride and joy, daughters Amy White (Matt) and Christen Craigo, and granddaughter, Valerie White. Also left behind is her brother, Robbie (Marie) of Atlanta, GA, sister-in-law Patty Goodell (Bill) of Taylors, SC, and nephew Jeff Goodell (Adrianne) of Taylors, SC.
Services for Dana will be held at 1:00 PM Tuesday August 1, 2023 at Cross Lanes Bible Church with Pastor Dave Buckley officiating. Burial will be in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
Marklin Allen Padilla, 77, of Alum Creek, left his earthly body Monday, July 17, 2023. He passed at CAMC Memorial Hospital surrounded by those who love him most.
Mark was a graduate of Duval High School and retired from Boilermaker Local 667. He was a lover of the outdoors, often spending afternoons lying in the grass. Caring for the outdoors, Mark kept bird feeders full and corn out for the deer. He enjoyed trout fishing in the Williams River.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe Bennie & Freda Hill Padilla, sister & brother-in-law, Carmen & Gary Cochran; and niece, Kacey Estep.
Mark is survived by his wife of 55 years, Sue Padilla; daughter & son-in-law Stacy & Wayne Bowman; son, Shane Padilla; granddaughters Caitlyn Bowman (Christopher Hodges) & Madison Bowman (Morgan Smith); sister Mickey (Buel) Gillenwater, and several nieces and nephews.
A service for those who wish to honor Mark’s memory will be held at 7:00 p.m., Monday, July 24, 2023, at Curry Funeral Home.

Christopher Scott Adkins, 40, of Alkol went home to be with his mom on July 19, 2023, due to a long illness.
Christopher is the son of Rodney G. Adkins and the late Norma J. Adkins. The brother of Justin K. Adkins. Uncle to Justin Jr., Hayden, Tylor, & Brayden Adkins and niece, Haylee Callahan.
Christopher was a disabled homebody that loved playing video games with his cousins, Bridget & Boo Man, who were more like his brother and sister. He absolutely loved to cut up and pick on people!
Those left to cherish his memory are his dad, brother, nephews, niece, aunts, uncles, and all his cousins and friends.
A special thanks to two of his cousins, Sabrina & Shawna Collins for helping care for him in his time of need.
There will be no services at this time. Per his wish, he will be cremated and a small memorial service will be held at his home at a later date.
Richard Gordon Compton, 64, of Alum Creek, WV, formerly of Louisville, KY, passed away Sunday, July 16, 2023, at home. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harlen & Jacqueline Jarrell Compton, and brothers, Delmar Dean Jarrell and Lacy Russell Compton.
He is survived by his wife, Kimberly, sons, Lacy Lee (Jamie) Compton, Brandenburg, KY, Robert Compton, Brandenburg, KY, Benjamin Fisher of Louisville, KY, brothers, Joseph Compton, Alum Creek, WV, and Michael Compton, Shepherdsville, KY. He is also survived by ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Richard was an U.S. Army Veteran. He was an electrician and a country music fan.
There will be no services. He was cremated.
Don Harless, 85, of Putnam County passed away the night of July 3, 2023, from complications from a stroke in 2022. Don was born in 1937 in Lincoln County, WV to Nalta and Ocie Crawford Harless.
Don had five siblings and was the last of that family. Don graduated from Duval High School in 1955 and left immediately for a tour in the US Air Force. He finished his tour in Colorado and married Orilla Pugh who bore him one son and five daughters. Don’s second marriage was to Marilyn Davis Haas in 1985. When she died in 2019 Don moved back to WV to retire.
Don is survived by daughters, Terri Flory of Hugo, Colorado; Deanna Fabricatore of New Port Richey, FL; Janice Anderson of San Tan Valley, AZ; Sharon Franco of Denver, Colorado; and Laura Moya of LaSalle, Colorado. Don had 15 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.
There will be no services and Don will be buried at Cunningham Memorial Park in St. Albans, WV
