Judith Mae Cox

Judith Mae Cox, 78, of South Charleston, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, August 10, 2021, at CAMC Hubbard House.

Judith was a member of Oakwood Church of Christ. She graduated in 1960 from Washington District High School, going on to graduate from Morris Harvey College and was a 1963 graduate of Charleston General School of Nursing. Judith worked for Charleston General Hospital, Summersville Memorial Hospital, and retired from CAMC General. She was an avid 4-H All Star and Volunteer.

Judith was preceded in death by her parents, Rex & Macy Bell and daughter, Melinda Sue Cox.

She is survived by son, Rodney David Cox; granddaughters, Madeline Mae Cox, Gwendolyn Grace Cox, Joscelyn Jane Cox; sister, Jane Hudson; and many nieces and nephews.

There will be a visitation from 1:00-3:00 p.m., Saturday, August 14, 2021, at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek. Graveside service will follow at Orchard Hills Memory Gardens, Yawkey.

The family would like to thank the staff at Hospice for the great care and compassion shown to Judith.

Nancy May McCormick

Nancy May McCormick, 78, of Sod passed away Thursday, August 5, 2021, at Hubbard Hospice House.

Nancy provided a lovely home for her husband and children.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Charles McCormick.

Nancy is survived by son, Homer (Laurie) McCormick; daughter, Cindy (Gary) McCormick; grandchildren, Robert McCormick, Curtis McCormick, Loyd (Terrina) Adkins, Jr., Jason (Jamie) Adkins, Jeremy Adkins, Nicholas Adkins; great grandchildren, Austin Adkins, Jason Adkins Jr., Julie Adkins, Jacob Adkins, and Jasmin Adkins.

Per Nancy’s wishes, she will be cremated and there will be no service.

Joshua Spencer Bradshaw

Joshua Spencer Bradshaw, 29, of Elkview, lost his battle with addiction of an accidental overdose on Sunday, August 1, 2021, at home.

Josh was a charismatic young man with lots of potential. His intelligence, wit, and humor were unmatched, until it was taken from him by addiction. He was a 2010 graduate of Herbert Hoover High School and loved the outdoors, hunting, and fishing.

He was preceded in death by his father, John Madison Bradshaw, Jr.; grandparents, John & Virginia Bradshaw, Sr., Emerson & Thelma Spencer; and brother, Brandon Madison Bradshaw.

Josh is survived by his mother & stepfather, Alma Lou & Dennis Lewis, of Charleston; many aunts, uncles, cousins, and a host of friends.

Service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 7, 2021, at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Reverend Sam Pierson and Tim Runyan officiating. Burial will follow at Graceland Memorial Park, South Charleston. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 p.m., Friday, August 6, 2021, at the funeral home.

Mary Magdalene Clark Shultz, 94, of South Charleston, WV, went to her heavenly home on Sunday, August 1, 2021, at CAMC Memorial – Hospice. 

She was preceded in death by her husband Charles Ryan Shultz, two sons, Harold and Roger Shultz and an infant daughter.   

She attended South Charleston Church of Christ and was retired from Smiley’s Motel. 

Mary is survived by her daughter, Phyllis (Lester) Samson, Son, Glenn (Annie) Shultz, daughter-in-law, Anna J. Shultz, five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson, and Izzy who was like her grandchild. 

Service will be 1:00pm on Wednesday, August 4, 2021, at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, with Minister Eddie Cooper officiating.  Burial will follow at Estel Shultz Cemetery, Charleston.  Family and friends will gather one hour prior to the service.   

The family would like to give a special thank you to Mary’s granddaughter, Gina Shultz, for her love and care during the last few years.

Victoria Ranae Simmons

Victoria Ranae Simmons, 67, of Tornado, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 29, 2021.  Her husband was at her side at the time of her death.  She fought courageously a long illness for several years.  She spent her life with children always by her side.  She and her husband cared for foster children for many years.   

She is preceded in death by her parents, Glen Earl Hughes and Janice Ilene Hughes.   

Victoria is survived by her loving husband of 47 years Dave Simmons, her children David (Katie) Simmons of St. Albans, Cory Simmons of Tornado, Stephen (Whitney) Simmons of St. Albans, Sara (Michele) Simmons of Salt Rock, Amy (Josh) Bucklen of Cross Lanes, Richard Simmons of St Albans, Kimmy (Jake) Stevens of St Albans, and Samuel Simmons of Tornado.   

She is also survived by her brothers Glen (Lisa) Hughes of Sumerco, Shawn (Beth) Hughes of Sod, sister Glenna Hughes of Charleston, and sister in law Lynn (Kirk) Tabor of Nitro.  Her grandchildren who were everything to her are Austin, Cory Michael, Zack, Madison, Kaitlyn, Sarai, Austin, Tanner, Cooper, Lydia, Marlee, and Parker.   

A celebration of Victoria’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, August 8, 2021, at Maranatha Fellowship Church, 2910 Kanawha Terrace, St. Albans, WV with Pastor Darren Powell and Pastor Terry Hogue officiating.

We would like to thank Joni Olson of Tornado for being a caregiver, Charleston Hospice for the passion and care that was given,  Maranatha Fellowship for being so considerate and understanding to Dave for these last several years, and Curry Funeral Home for everything they have done for our family over the years.

Clara Dawn Vickers Ralston, 78, of Alkol, WV, went home Wednesday, July 28, 2021 at Hubbard Hospice House in Charleston.

She was a Kindergarten teacher at Woodville Elementary for more than 30 years and a member of Sycamore Grove Baptist Church.

Clara was preceded in death by her parents, John and Elizabeth Tully; and brothers, Carson and Johnny Tully.

She is survived by daughter, Kellie D. (Hector) Ruiz; brother, Bill Tully; grandchildren, April (Josh) Gordon, Angie (Brandon) Geer, Audra (Adam) Collins, Jason (Kelly) Ruiz, Matthew (Chloe Lucas) Ruiz, and Nathanial Ruiz; great grandchildren Brooke, Keely, Eli, Chloe, Jaylee, Brantlee, Aiden and Max.

Service will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, August 1, 2021 at Curry Funeral Home in Alum Creek with Pastor Mark Ruby officiating. Burial will follow at Danville Memorial Park in Danville. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Clara Lee Turley

Clara Lee Turley, 71, of Alum Creek, WV, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, July 28, 2021. Clara died peacefully at the home of her brother, Gerald (Sue) Priestley with her family by her side.

She was preceded in death by her husband, David; sister, Ruth Carol Bailey; and parents, Granville and Ruth Priestley.

She is also survived by her nieces and nephews, Robin (Greg) Myers, Michael (Michelle) Bailey, David (Monica) Priestley, and Kenneth (Rachel) Priestley.

Service will be 12:00 p.m. Saturday, July 31, 2021, at Curry Funeral Home in Alum Creek with Pastor Daniel Dent officiating. Burial will follow at Lively Cemetery, Sod, WV. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service.

Eric Neil Kinder

Eric Neil Kinder, 54, of Nellis, left this life on July 14, 2021.  Eric was proceeded in death by his dad, Arlie Ray Kinder, nephew, Jeremiah Doss, great-nephew, Marcus Chandler, and his beloved dog Snapper of 17 years.

He is survived by his mom, Dola Kinder of Nellis, sister, Virginia (Lawrence) Doss of Costa, brother, Todd (Mary Ann) Kinder of Costa, sister, Sally Chandler of Costa, biological daughter, Dolaina Beth Barker, biological daughter, Breella, biological son, Eric William Bud Kinder, and one grandson, Jeddy Barker, extended family, Patricia Kinder, Erica Martinez and Sandra Nelson all of Florida.  He is also survived by eight nieces and nephews, and 18 great nieces and nephews. 

Eric was an outdoorsman, loved working on motorcycles and 4-wheelers but his true enjoyment was riding through the woods.  He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Graveside service will be 1:00pm Friday, July 23, 2021, at Kinder Cemetery, Costa, WV, with preacher Stevie Cox officiating.  Curry Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Billy Paul Spillers

Billy Paul Spillers, 57, of St. Albans, passed away Sunday, July 18, 2021, at home.

Billy Paul was a Sam’s Club Associate and long-time Supervisor. He had worked over 30 years with the Walmart Corporation.

He was preceded in death by his canine buddy, Brucie.

Billy Paul is survived by his fiancé who loved and adored him, Sondra Clark; daughter, Marissa Spillers; and granddaughters, Alyssa and Payzlee Shawver. He is also survived by two young ladies who were to be his stepdaughters, Nikki Linville and Hailey Bunting; their children, Carter and Lexi Linville, Raelyn and Rylee Bunting. Billy Paul also had his Sams Club family and many friends who loved him and will miss him dearly.

Graveside service will be 1:00 p.m., Thursday, July 22, 2021, at Lively Cemetery, Sod.

Elsie Loftis McCormick

Elsie Loftis McCormick, 95, of Alkol, WV, born April 13, 1926 went to be with the Lord Friday, July 16, 2021. She was the 10th of eleven children born to William Ira and Pearlie Missouri Hill Loftis.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Clyde McCormick, who were recognized as the longest married couple in the great state of West Virginia for the year 2017; sons, Norman Kyle, James Darrell and Denzil Wayne McCormick; sisters, Elva Justice and Ina Quintrell McCallister; brothers, Ray, Earl, Estil, Virgil, Elwood, Ted, Irvin, and Wilmer Loftis.

Elsie is survived by daughters, Patsy McCormick, Glennis (Johnny) Lipscomb and Donna McCormick; son, Clifford (Michele) McCormick; 14 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and 8 great-great grandchildren.

Service will be 12:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 20, 2021, at Curry Funeral Home in Alum Creek with Pastor Butch Loftis officiating. Burial will follow at Orchard Hills Memory Gardens, Yawkey. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
