James “Jim” David Dunlap, 66, of Dunbar, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 20, 2019 at Abbyshire Place, Bidwell, OH.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Herschel & Erma Dunlap, brother, Terry, and sister, April.

He was retired from Service Office Supply, and was an US Army Veteran, and was saved and baptized.

He is survived by his brothers, Mark,  Tom (Dee), Bob (Brenda), Bill (Patricia), and Mike (Lisa), sister, Karen Eskew (Gordon), son, David, and long- time friend, Susan.

Graveside service with military rites will be held at Lively Cemetery, Sod, WV at a later date.

Lola Armstrong

Lola Armstrong, 87, of Sod, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 14, 2019 at Hillcrest Nursing Center, Madison.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Jackson.

She worked as an In-Home care provider and attended Alum Creek Assembly of God.

Lola is survived by her son, Jimmy Dale (Barbara) Armstrong, grandchildren, Jimmy Dale (Joyce) Armstrong II, and Bobby (Phyllis) Armstrong, great-grandchildren, D.J. Armstrong, Josh (Caitlan) Armstrong, and great-great-grandchildren, A.J., Bentley, Bradon, Hayden, and Bailey.

Graveside service with viewing will be 3:00pm Wednesday July 17th, at Old Pine Grove Cemetery, Sumerco, with Pastor Frank Chapman officiating.

Sherri Lee Brogan

Sherri Lee Brogan, 61, of Sod, WV, passed away Friday, July 12, 2019 after a long illness surrounded by her family.

She loved spending time with family, especially her grandbabies, crafts and the beach.

Sherri was predeceased by her parents, Walter and Margie Mannon and brother, Shane E. Mannon.

She is survived by companion, Michael Lewis; children Randy (Jenny) Thompson and Chad Thompson (Amanda Pauley); brother, Billy Joe (Belinda) Mannon; grandchildren Emilie, R. J., Wyatt, Daniel, MacKenzie and Jorja.

A celebration of Sherri’s life will be held at a later date.  Burial will be at Forks of Coal Cemetery in Alum Creek.

A special thank you to Hospice Care for the wonderful care they provided to Sherri.

Gloria Delores Myers

Gloria Delores Myers of the Villages, FL passed away on July 7, 2019 at home.  Gloria was born in Boone County, WV on September 20, 1932.  She won numerous awards and achievements including AT&T’s Top Regional and National Sales Specialist, “Circle of Excellence” Sales Award, and designated “Vice President’s Council of Leaders”.   She also retired from Lucent technologies, Comcast and Verizon.  She moved to the Villages in 1987.  She was preceded in death by her husband Jack who passed June 11, 2015.  She is survived by her two daughters Vickie L. Simpson of Scottsdale, AZ and Gloria J. Myers also of the Villages, FL.  Services will be held Friday, July 12, 2019 at 11 AM at Cunningham Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel in St. Albans, WV with Chaplain Pete Thompson officiating.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the cemetery.

Tommy Young

Claude Thomas Young, Jr., 63, of South Charleston,  went home Tuesday, July 2, 2019 at Select Specialty Hospital in Charleston.

He was a 1974 graduate of George Washington High School.   Tom coached and umpired little league baseball in Kanawha Valley for many years.    For Tom, his most important role was being a father and grandfather.

He was predeceased by his father, Claude Thomas Young, Sr.

Tom is survived by his mother, Patty Jo Young; children Justin (Jessica) Young, Ashton (Drew) Holbrook, Brett and Ryan Young; grandchildren Keith Rose, Savannah and Connor Young and Emilia Holbrook; brothers, Mark (Renee) Young and David (Tricia) Young; and nephews David, Grant and Sean Young.

Per his request, there will be no services.  In lieu of flowers, please make memorial donations to St. Jude Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN  38105-9959.

Edward Marshall Wilson

Edward Marshall Wilson, 84, of Charleston, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, June 27, 2019.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Carol, parents, Ernest & Minnie Ward Wilson, brothers, Homer, Junior, Jamie, William and infant Bobby Franklin;  and sisters, Allie, Nancy “Ozell”, Edith, Mary Magdaline, Martha, Peggy and JoAnn.

He was a retired heavy equipment operator.

Edward is survived by his son, Stanley Wilson of Charleston, daughter, Dianna (Bob) Hill of Charleston, sister, Helen Arthur of Bancroft, granddaughter,  Destiny Newcome of Cross Lanes.

Service will be 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 2, 2019 at Curry Funeral Home in Alum Creek with Pastor Frank Chapman officiating.  Burial will follow at Orchard Hills Memory Gardens, Yawkey.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

Julia B. Eskew

Julia B. Eskew, age 87, of Clearwater, Florida passed away on March 20, 2019.   Julia was born in Ashford, West Virginia on May 10, 1931.  She relocated to Clearwater, Florida in the 1950’s, where she remained until her passing.  Julia worked for the Pinellas County Court System for many years, as a clerk.  She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Safety Harbor.  Julia loved to travel and to quilt.

She is survived by two sons, Frank Eskew (Sheila) of Tennessee and Walter Eskew (Mary) of Florida; daughter, Karen Eskew-Wyllie (Neil) of Utah; three grandchildren, four great grandchildren, brother Truman Barker of West Palm Beach, Florida.  As well as many nieces and nephews and many close friends.

Julia was predeceased by her husband, James “Jim” Eskew in 2003.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, July 6th at 11:00 AM at the Ashford Church of God.  Burial will follow at the Barker Cemetery in Ashford.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Operation Christmas Child or the Humane Society.

Sandra Sue Stover

Sandra Sue Stover, 77 of Charleston, went home to be with the Lord on June 25, 2019 at Dunbar Center Nursing Home, Dunbar after a long illness.

Sandra is retired from JC Penney’s in Charleston.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Mildred Taylor and her brother, Johnny Taylor.

She is survived by her husband, Earl Stover; sons, John Shamblin, Gary (Kayla) Shamblin, and Todd Stover; step-son, Tim (Randi) Stover; three grand daughters, Emily, Haylee, and Natalie.

Funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, June 29, 2019 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Pastor Mike Long officiating.  Burial will be in French Cemetery, Charleston.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Rev. David Callison

Rev. David Callison, 76 of Griffithsville, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday June 23rd, 2019 after a long illness.

Dave spent his life serving God and helping people.  He pastored Gallagher Baptist Church, Shrewsbury Baptist Church, Amy Baptist Church and Yawkey Methodist Church.  He was a member of Elizabeth Missionary Baptist Church on Garretts Bend. He also worked in the coal mines for 12 years and was the owner and operator of Sparkle Wash in Charleston for 25 years.

He was preceded in death by his son, Christopher, parents, John and Evelyn Callison and nephew John Callison.

Left to grieve are his wife of 55 years, Shirley Bowe Callison; daughters, Kym Barnett (Mark), Terry Collins (Jeff);brothers, Carl (Marilyn) Callison, Joe (Betty) Callison), Mark (Sue) Callison; special daughter-in-law, Karen Callison; 7 grandchildren, Lyndsi, Mark Anthony, Jordan, Zac, Logan, Christina, Jessica; 5 great grandchildren, Bella, Hayden, Juliana, Tyler James, and Kinsley.

The family wants to thank Mark and Mark Anthony Barnett for the tender loving care they gave Dave while he was sick.

Funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM Monday July 1, 2019 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Pastors Homer Hensley and Mark Ruby officiating.  Burial will be in Kanawha Valley Memorial Gardens, Glasgow.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 PM Sunday at the funeral home.

Sandra Kay Cook

Sandra Kay Cook, 68, of Sumerco, WV went home Friday, June 21, 2019 at Thomas Memorial Hospital in South Charleston.

She worked at the VA Hospital in West Palm Beach, Florida for 12 years.

Sandra was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Virginia Hancock Snead, two brothers, and two sisters.

She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Donald Cook; son, Donald R. Cook of Yawkey; three grandchildren Chloe, Cleah, and Hunter Cook; sisters Margaret Boyd of Quincy, WV, and Norma Snead of Myrtle Beach, SC; and many nieces and nephews.

A gathering of family and friends will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Curry Funeral Home in Alum Creek.  Burial will follow at a later date.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the funeral home.
