Harold C. Thornton, 85, of So. Charleston died Thursday, April 1, 2004 at a Personal Care Home in St. Albans, after a short illness.
He was retired from FMC at South Charleston with 45 years of service. He was a member of the United Steel Workers of America. He was a Baptist.

He is survived by: 1 Daughter: Mary Rader of Dunbar;  4 Sons: Chet of Oakridge, TN Doug of St. Albans Bill of Hurricane Tim of Buckhannon; 4 Sisters: Inez Pauley &Imogene Caldwell both of Hurricane Louise Diehl of St. Albans Jane Carpenter of Culloden; 1 Brother: Jimmy Thornton of Hurricane; 10 Grandchildren; Many Great-Grandchildren.

Service will be 2:00 PM Monday, Apri15, 2004 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Pastor Merlin Provance officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Memorial Park, South Charleston. Friends may call from 6 to 8 PM Sunday at the funeral home.

Virginia E. Runyan, 84, of Sod went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 1, 2004 at home after a long illness.
She was a member of Alum Creek Church of Christ and a lifelong resident of Sod, WV.

She is survived by: 2 Daughters &sons-in-law: Patsy & C.B. Keeney of Alum Creek Nancy & Bob Matthews of Sumerco; 4 Sons &daughters-in-law: Richazd &Betty Runyan and Charles &Vickie Runyan both of Sod Kenneth &Bonnie Runyan of Alum Creek Gary &Deanna Runyan of Merritt Island, FL; 2 Sisters: Mary Gillenwater of Sumerco Helen Teel of Sandusky, OH; 16 Grandchildren 19; Great Grandchildren.

Service will be 2:00 PM Saturday, Apri13, 2004 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Ministers Justin heel &Kenneth Mitchell officiating. Burial will be in Lively Cemetery, Sod, WV. Friends may call Friday from 7 to 9 PM at the funeral home.

The family suggests donations be made to Kanawha Hospice Care, Inc., 1143 Dunbar Ave., Dunbar, WV 25064. The family would also like to express a special thank you to all of Virginia’s caregivers.

Harley Lee Clark of Sumerco, two day old infant son of Justin and Mindy Clark, went to be with Jesus Wednesday, March 24, 2004 at Cabell Huntington Hospital.

He is also survived by his: Maternal Grandparents: Ginger Daugherty Jeff Masterson; Patemal Grandparents: Bobby and Cheryl Clark; Maternal Great Grandmother: Mary Daugherty; Patemal Great Grandparents: Bobby and Arbutus Clark; Maternal Great Great Grandmother: Bernice Smith.

Service will be 11:00 AM Saturday, March 27, 2004 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, with Rev. Meddie Dunlap officiating. Burial will be in Lively Cemetery, Sod. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Rodney Eugene Pauley

He was a member of the United Steel Workers of America.

He is survived by: Wife: Joetta; 3 Sons: Rodney, John & Shawn Pauley; 2 Sisters: Ruth Marshall Janet Baire; 1 Brother: Donnie Gene Pauley; 4 Grandchildren.

Service will be 2:00 PM Saturday, March 27, 2004 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Rev. James Webb officiating. Burial will be in Brounland Cemetery, Alum Creek. Friends may call Friday from 7 to 9 PM at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made toward funeral expenses.

Merri C. Mallory

Beloved wife and mother, Merri C. Mallory, 45, of Yawkey, died Monday, March 22, 2004 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident on Midway road.

She was currently employed at the Quick Mart in Yawkey and formerly was an activities director for area nursing homes.

Frances Marie Kinder

Frances Marie Kinder, 60, of Hamlin, formerly of South Charleston, died Monday, March 22, 2004 at the home of Danny and Sylvia Adkins, caregivers, at Hamlin.
She was a lifelong member of Hilltop Baptist Church, South Charleston.

Frances is survived by her brother, Delmer Joe Kinder of Ohio; sister, Charlotte Robbins of Marlton, New Jersey and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, March 25, 2004 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, with Pastor Frank Chapman officiating. Burial will be held in Graceland Memorial Park, South Charleston. Friends may call on Wednesday from 7 to 9 PM at the funeral home.

Virginia Myrtle Dragoo

Virginia Myrtle Dragoo, 81, of Griffithsville, West Virginia, died Saturday, March 20, 2004 in John Randolph Medical Center, Hopewell, Virginia.

She was born in Lincoln County, attended the Amy Baptist Church, Yawkey, the Good Samaritan, Harvey Town and was a member of the Women of the Moose, Hopewell, Virginia.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Everett and Eliza Brumfield Smith, her husband Lines Dragoo, three daughters Nella Ruth Davis, Betty Gail Hill and Wanda Faye Dragoo.

Surviving are two sons, Ernest C. Dragoo and wife, Libbie of Hopewell, VA and Charles K. Dragoo of Griffithsville; three daughters, Phyllis Ring of Coeburn, VA; Carolyn S. Cumm of Huntington and Virginia Myrtle “Genny” Griffiths and husband, Alan of Disputanta; nine grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be 2:00 PM Tuesday, March 23, 2004 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Pastor Forest Curry and Rev. Roger Roberts officiating. Burial will be in the Orchard Hill Memory Gardens Yawkey. The family will be receiving friends from 6 to 9 PM Monday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to your favorite charity.

Opal D. Smith

Opal D. Smith, 86, of South Charleston died Friday, March 19, 2004 at home after a long illness.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Maggie Dent; husband, John Henry Smith; four brothers, Raymond, Orville, Harvey and Delbert Dent.
She was a lifetime member of Thomas Memorial Hospital Ladies Auxiliary with over 3500 hours volunteer service. She was a member of the Benny Padilla VFW Post #4768 Ladies Auxiliary. She loved to bowl and was active in the Venture Lanes bowling league. She attended both the Alum Creek Church of Nazazene and the Davis Creek Church of Nazarene. She also loved to cook and garden.

She is survived by two sons and daughter-in-law, Edwin E. “Gene” Smith of South Charleston Donald and Patti Smith of Charleston; two daughters and son-in-law, Janet E. Shamblin of Tampa, Florida, Phyllis L. and Bill Dollman of Culpepper, Virginia; one brother and sister-in-law, Denver and Hazel Dent of South Charleston; one sister, Hazel Alford of South Charleston; two additional sisters-in-law, Phyllis Dent of Charleston; Alice Smith of Huntington; brother-in-law, Kenneth Smith and wife, Bette of Naples, FL; 10 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren and many other family members and friends.

Service will be 2:00 PM Sunday, Mazch 21, 2004 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Pastor Mayford Witt and Pastor Chazles Larne officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Memorial Pazk. Friends may call Saturday from 6 to 8 PM at the funeral home.

Parker L. Price

Parker L. Price, 84 of So. Charleston went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, March 16, 2004 at CAMC Memorial after a short illness.
Parker was a retired electrician with Union Carbide and a member of the Ruth Community Church So. Charleston. God was a priority in his life, he enjoyed being with his family and watching the New York Yankees, he also worked 17 years as a coal miner. Pazker is survived by his: Wife: Mary; 3 Daughters: Betty Tugwell, Reta Pauley and Peggy Fultz all of So. Charleston; 1 Brother: Jack Price of So. Charleston; 1 Sister: Annie DeBord of So. Chazleston; 8 Grandchildren 12 Great Grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 3:00 PM Friday March 19, 2004 at Graceland Memorial Park So. Charleston with Pastor Dick Casto officiating. There will be no visitation. Curry Funeral Home Alum Creek is in charge of arrangements.

Ethan Wayne Goodall, 12 days old, went to be with Jesus on Tuesday, March 16, 2004 at CAMC Women’s and Children’s Hospital, Charleston.

Ethan is survived by his parents, David and Brandi Goodall of Dunbar; maternal grandparents, Bob and Brenda Bayless of Alum Creek; Cindy Reed of Nitro; paternal grandparents, David Wayne, Sr. and Emily Joyce Goodall of Charleston; maternal great grandparents, Jim and Peggy Reed of Eleanor; Garnet Bayless of Meadville, Miss.; Eddie and June Smith of Alum Creek; paternal great grandparents, Leslie and Nonna Goodall of Charleston and Louise Ratcliff of Chazleston.
