Carrie Chandler Miller, 78, of Olmstead Falls, Ohio, formerly of Alkol, West Virginia, went home to be with the Lord Thursday, August 28, 2003 at Parkside Villa Nursing Home in Middleburg Heights, Ohio after a long illness.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Hershell.

She was a member of the Left Fork Baptist Church, Alkol.

She is survived by her: Son: Roger Miller of Newton Falls, OH; 3 Daughters: Anita Edwazds of Olmstead Falls, OH; Marilyn Cummings of North Ridgeville, OH; Alyssa Ryan of Medina, OH; 1 Sister: Arlene Hayes of Julian, WV; 8 Grandchildren; 5 Great Grandchildren.

Services will be held Monday, September 1, 2003 at 11:00 AM at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, with Rev. Denver Daniel officiating. Burial will be in Orchard Hills Memory Gardens, Yawkey. Friends may call from 6 to 8 PM Sunday August 31, 2003 at the funeral home.

Wanda Fay Dragoo

Wanda Fay Dragoo, 59, of Griffithsville, died Wednesday August 27, 2003 at Cabell Huntington Hospital after a long illness.

She was a member of Amy Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her father, Lines & two sisters, Nella Davis and Gale Hill.

She is survived by her mother: Myrtle Smith Dragoo of Griffithsville; 2 Brothers &Sister-in-law: Ernest & Olivia Dragoo of Hopewell, VA; Charles Dragoo of Mud River, WV; 3 Sisters & brother-in-law: Phyllis Ring of Coeburn, VA; Carolyn Cumm of Huntington, WV; Genny & Alan Griffith of Prince George, VA; several nieces and nephews & great nieces and nephews.

Service will be 11:00 AM Saturday, August 30, 2003 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, with Pastor Forest Curry and Rev. Roger Roberts officiating. Burial will be in Orchard Hills Memory Gardens, Yawkey. Friends may call Friday from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.

Randolph E. “Tugan” Banks, 79, of Alum Creek died Tuesday, August 26, 2003 at Thomas Memorial Hospital after a long illness.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Nancy Smith. He was a retired construction laborer with Laborers Local #1353, a former Justice ofthe Peace and Constable officer for Lincoln County, and a Marine veteran of WWII.

He is survived by: Wife: Olive; 2 Daughters: Beverly Rivenbark of North Carolina Jackie Hoover of Harrisville, WV; 2 Sons: Billy &Wayne both of Alum Creek; 1 Brother: Clarence E. Banks of Beckley; 1 Sister: Vera Mae Jones of Florida; 5 Grandchildren; 7 Great Grandchildren.

Service will be 1:00 PM Friday, August 29, 2003 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Pastor Frank Chapman officiating. Burial will be in the Pauley Cemetery at Joe’s Creek.

Mabel Gentry

Mabel Gentry, 85, of Griffithsville, formerly of Warren, Michigan, died Tuesday, August 19, 2003 at home.

She was a homemaker.

She is survived by several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will beheld at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Detroit, Michigan on Saturday, August 23, 2003 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Harry Payne officiating. Burial will follow. Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, is in charge of arrangements. Family will receive friends one hour prior to service at the cemetery.

Patsy Jean Treadway

Patsy Jean Treadway, 56, of Scott Depot, formerly of South Charleston, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, August 19, 2003 at Thomas Memorial Hospital, South Charleston, after a short battle with cancer.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Irene Naylor; brother, James H. Naylor, Jr., and husband, Ronald Treadway.

She was a 10-year employee of Wal-Mart at Southridge. A member of Trinity Independent Missionary Baptist Church where she sang in the choir and served as a Sunday school teacher.

She is survived by: 1 Stepson: Scott Treadway of Charleston; 1 Stepdaughter: Laura Treadway of Charleston; 1 Sister: Linda Yates of Scott Depot; 3 Brothers: Stephen and Jerry Naylor both of Charleston; Donald Naylor of Belle; 4 Grandchildren.

Service will be 1:00 PM Friday, August 22, 2003 at Trinity Independent Missionary Baptist Church, South Charleston, with Rev. Gene Pauley officiating. Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Park, Dunbar. Friends may call from 7 to 9 PM Thursday, August 21, 2003 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek.
Patsy will be greatly missed by her family, many friends and loved ones.

Katie Cheyenne O’Connor

Katie Cheyenne O’Connor, daughter of Patrick and Sheila O’Connor was born Wednesday, August 13, 2003 at CAMC Women and Children’s Hospital and went home to be with Jesus on Thursday, August 14, 2003.

Also surviving are one brother, Hunter O’Connor; paternal grandparents, Joe and Kay Pira of St. Augustine, FL; maternal grandparents, Jerry and Sharon Wentz of South Charleston; and paternal great grandmother, Tippy Meador of Campbells Creek.

Services will be 4:00 PM on Monday, August 18, 2003 at Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens Mausoleum in Cross Lanes with Pastor Oren Thornhill officiating. Entombment will follow. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the mausoleum. Curry Funeral Home at Alum Creek is in charge of arrangements.

William R. “Bill” Shartzer, 82, of Sumerco, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, July 29, 2003, at home after a long illness.

He was a retired auto painter for Joe Holland Chevrolet, South Charleston. A member of Sumerco Church of God and a WWII Army veteran.

He is survived by: Wife: Billie; Son: William Shartzer of Upton, KY; 3 Step-sons: Ronnie McCallister of South Carolina; Michael McCallister of North Carolina; Timothy McCallister of Florida; 2 Step-Daughters: Sandy McCallister of Florida; Dreama Hammack of Elkview; 2 Brothers: Henry Shartzer of Leitchfield, KY; Walter Shartzer, of Florida; 2 Grandchildren; 1 Great Grandchild; 10 Step Grandchildren; 6 Step Great Grandchildren

She is survived by her children, Mollie Glendening of Kalispell, MT, Michael Ray McDaniel of Caro, MI, Mahlon Bullis of Portland, OR; 15 Grandchildren, 13 Great Grandchildren, 7 Great Great Grandchildren.

Funeral services held on Tuesday, July 29, 2003 at 1:00 PM at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, with Keith McDaniel officiating. Burial held in Bell Family Cemetery, Yawkey. There will not be a visitation.

Maxine Keeling

Maxine Keeling, 79, of Garretts Bend went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, July 23, 2003 at Thomas Memorial Hospital.

She was a member of Elizabeth Baptist Church for 67 years, where she taught Sunday School and Bible School.

She is survived by her husband of 57 years: Norris; Son and daughter-in-law: Roger & Sandi of Scott Depot; Granddaughter: Erin Keeling; Grandson: Derek Keeling; Brother: Walter Dunlap of Garrets Bend; Sister: Wanda Dauis of Cross Lanes; 4 Half-Sisters: Ann Fowler, Linda Jones, Margie Basham & Karen Vickers.

Special thanks to caregiver, Wanda Dragoo.

Service will be 1:00 PM Saturday, July 26, 2003 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, with Pastor Winford Curry officiating. Burial will be in Orchard Hills Memory Gardens. Friends may call from 7 to 9 Friday at the funeral home.

The family would like to thank the ICU nursing staff and doctors at Thomas Memorial Hospital for all the loving-care and kindness during this difficult time.

Woodrow Hershel “Jake” Sowards, 89, of South Charleston, died Monday, July 21, 2003 at home after a short illness.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Rachel.

He was retired from the city of South Charleston.

He is survived by his five daughters, Wanda Bostic of Gay, Ollie Bostic of Griffithsville, Anna Gue of Branchland, Linda Cobb of Alum Creek, Mena Stanley of Richmond, VA; five sons, Junior of Sumerco, Bob of Alkol, Ojay of Myrtle Beach, SC, Frankie of Hamlin, Hershel of South Charleston, four step-daughters, Orpha Wieppe of Florida, Barbara McCutcheon of Sissonville, Mary Jo Parsons of Charleston, Geraldine Moore of Nitro; two step-sons, Albert Moore of Charleston, Denny Moore of Hurricane; three brothers, Joe Sowazds of Michigan, Denver Sowards of Ohio, Brady Sowards of Florida; five sisters, Edna Barrby of Ohio, Margaret Newcomber of North Carolina, Edith Sedlarick and Jewell Coburn both of Michigan, Gladys Spradling of Arizona; 55 Grandchildren; 104 Great Grandchildren; 10 Great Great Grandchildren.

Services will be held at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, on Thursday, July 24, 2003 at 1:00 PM with Bishop Chester McCutcheon officiating. Burial will be held in Forks of Coal Memorial Park, Alum Creek. Friends may call on Wednesday, July 23, 2003 from 7 to 9 PM at the funeral home.
