Virginia Elizabeth Akers, 83 of South Charleston, died Sunday, October 15, 2000 at Valley Health Center, South Charleston after a long illness.

She was a retired buyer from G. C. Murphy, was baptized into the membership of the Briar Creek Baptist Church in 1930 and attended the Cathedral of Prayer Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Lee Akers.

She is survived by her: 1 Daughter: Christina DeBord of South Charleston, WV; 2 Brothers: Harold “Gene” Cantley of Spring Hill, WV; Robert “Bob” Cantley of Charleston, WV; 2 Sisters: Edith Eskew of South Charleston, WV; Mable Wilson of FL; 2 Grandsons: Steven Paul and Mark Gregory 4 Great Grandchildren: Bryan, Kateland, Brieana, and Annie.

Services will be held at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, on Wednesday, October 18, 2000 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Tommy Roberts and Bret Edwards officiating. Burial will be held in Graceland Memorial Park, South Charleston. Friends may call on Tuesday, October 17, 2000 from 6 to 9 PM at the funeral home.

Junior Brooks McCallister

Junior Brooks McCallister, 78 of Tango, died Friday, October 13, 2000 at home after a long illness.

He was a retired miner, a member of UMW Local 633 Madison and an Army veteran of WWII.

He is survived by his: Wife: Earnestine Jones McCallister; 4 Sons: Steve McCallister of Fairmont, WV; Quintion McCallister of Beckley, WV; Tim McCallister of South Charleston, WV; Barry Joe McCallister of Alum Creek, WV; 2 Daughters: Trudy Yenchochic of Burlington, KY; Lisa Lee of Hamlin, W V; 1 Sister: Margie Ball of South Charleston, WV; 12 Grandchildren.

Services will be held at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, on Monday, October 16, 2000 at 11:00 AM with Minister Murrel McKinney officiating. Burial will be held in Orchard Hills Memory Gardens, Yawkey. Friends may call on Sunday, October 15, 2000 from 6 to 8 PM at the funeral home.

Jack L. Stowers, 61 of Griffithsville, died Thursday, October 12, 2000 near his home from injuries due to an ATV accident.

He was a retired truck driver for McJunkin Corporation, Nitro with 30 years service. He was a member of the Griffithsville Masonic Lodge 71 AF & AM ,was very active in community service including Duval High School athletic program.

He was survived by his: Wife: Dorothea; 1 Daughter: Angela McClure of Griffithsville, WV; 1 Son: Jackie Lee Stowers, Jr. of Yawkey, WV; 1 Sister: Wanda Vickers of South Charleston, WV; 3 Grandchildren: Michael McClure; Sarah Stowers; Aimee McClure.

She was retired from K-Mart.

He was a retired inspector for the West Virginia Department of Agriculture, and had pastored several Kanawha county area churches including Diamond Baptist and Handley Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents Everett &Eliza Brumfield Smith.

He is survived by his wife: Sue J. Bowen Smith; 1 Son: Jon D. Smith of Charleston, W V; 2 Daughters: Cindie King-Gilpen ofElkview, WV; Kathy Jones-Roberts of Melbourne, FL; 2 Sisters: Myrtle Dragoo of Griffithsville, WV; Annie Chandler of Yawkey, WV; 8 grandchildren: Nathan, Joey, Thad, Miranda, Lindsey, Sam, Jamie & Caleb; Many nieces & nephews.
