HE WAS A MEMBER AND PAST PRESIDENT OF ODD FELLOWS LODGE IN CHARLESTON. HE WAS A MEMBER OF ALUM CREEK INDEPENDENT MISSIONARY BAPTIST CHURCH.

HE WAS FORMERLY OF BOONE COUNTY AND TAUGHT SCHOOL FOR SEVERAL YEARS IN BOONE AND LINCOLN COUNTIES. THEN, HE ATTENDED SOUTHERN BAPTIST THEOLOGICAL SEMINARY IN LOUISVILLE, KY AND BECAME A PASTOR OF MANY CHURCHES IN BOONS, KANAWHA, AND LINCOLN COUNTIES. HIS LONGEST PASTORATE WAS AT THE OAKWOOD BAPTIST CHURCH, CHARLESTON, WV WHICH LASTED NEARLY 19 YEARS. HE WAS A MEMBER OF FORKS OF COAL MISSIONARY BAPTIST CHURCH.

HE IS SURVIVED BY HIS WIFE, LENORA ESTELLE SKEENES; 1 DAUGHTER: SANDRA LYNN SKEENES OF OLNEY, MARYLAND; 3 SONS: JERRY WAYNE SKEENES OF ALUM CREEK, WV; EDWARD ALLEN SKEENES OF MARYVILLE, TN; BARRY DEAN SKEENES OF HERNDON, VA; 3 SISTERS: MRS.
