Eric Eugene Watson

Eric Eugene Watson, 54, of North Charleston, died Thursday, February 24, 2011 at home after a long illness.  He was preceded in death by his father, Eugene Dodd Watson; mother, Margaret Ann Hancock, son, Kevin Watson and sister, Joyce K. Greene. 

As a child he lived at Chandler Dr., and attended the Davis Chapel Church. The family moved to North Charleston when he was 17 and lived there the remainder of his life. He worked at A&W Root Beer on Central Ave., as a teen. As an adult he worked mostly as a security guard at the State Capitol and a number of banks in the area. He enjoyed shooting pool in pool leagues. He was the owner of WV Woodworking which specialized in aquarium stands and other pet accessories.  

He is survived by his son: Chad Watson; Companion: Melanie Williamson of North Charleston; Brothers: Bill Sullivan and wife, Evelyn of Smithers, WV; Carl Sullivan and wife, Betty of Lorraine, OH; Richard Sullivan and companion, Jaime of Mt. Pleasant, PA; Sisters: Patricia Harper and husband, Eugene of Bradenton, FL; Celeste Weeden of Chelyan, WV; Barbara Frame and husband, Gary of North Olmsted, OH; Kathy Hamilton of Cross Lanes, WV; and many nieces and nephews.

 The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Stephanie Woods, Agnes Hanshaw, Sharon Ellis and especially Jo Bailey, RN for all they have done for Eric and the family during Eric’s final journey.  In lieu of flowers the family suggest donations in Eric’s memory are made to HospiceCare, 1606 Kanawha Blvd. W., Charleston, WV 25312-2536.

Brandon Madison Bradshaw

Brandon Madison Bradshaw, 23, of Elkview passed away Friday, February 18, 2011 after an auto accident in Elkview.  He is a 2006 Graduate of Herbert Hoover High School, and loved the outdoors, hunting and fishing.   

He was preceded in death by his father, John Madison Bradshaw, Jr; grandparents, John Bradshaw, Sr., Virginia Bradshaw and Emerson Spencer.   He is survived by his loving mother and step-father, Alma Lou and Dennis Lewis of Charleston; Brother: Joshua Bradshaw of Elkview; Grandmother: Thelma Spencer of South Charleston; Step-grandmother: Nellie Frazier of Charleston and many family members and many friends who will greatly miss Brandon.  

Funeral service will be 1:00 PM Wednesday at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek with Rev. Chuck Goddard officiating. Burial will follow in Graceland Memorial Park, South Charleston. Family and friends will gather from 6 to 9 pm Tuesday at the funeral home.

Debra K. Rowe Leischman

Debra K. Rowe Leischman, 54, of Yawkey, formerly of Madison, WV, died on Saturday, February 12, 2011.

After a short battle with cancer she left her family and friends to go home to be with the Lord.

She was born November 8, 1956 at Logan, WV. She was the daughter of the late Roy and Virginia Vance. She was also preceded in death by her two brothers, Charles and Larry Vance.

Debby was the mother of Melanie (John) Burchell and Davy Rowe and was the former wife of David Rowe.

She has two surviving sisters, Ruth Tomblin, Man, WV and Alice Hurst, Bunker Hill, WV. Her grandchildren, whom she dearly loved, will miss her very much are Brooke and Chloe Rowe, Cole, Olivia and Christian McCormick. Many thanks to Doug Mahone, who was a special friend.

There will be a service to celebrate the life of Debra at 7:00pm on Thursday, February 17, 2011 at Sumerco Church of God, 3741 Midway Road, Yawkey, WV, with Pastor Richard McCallister officiating.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

Curry Funeral Home at Alum Creek is in care of arrangements.

Timothy Eugene Marker

Timothy Eugene Marker, 31, of Sod, ended his suffering here when he went home to be with his Lord and Savior Saturday, February 12, 2011.  Tim was a 1998 graduate of Duval High School in Griffithsville, he was a Christian and attended Maranatha Fellowship in St Albans. He loved welding, music, Mustangs, antiques & WVU football. 

He was preceded in death by his infant son Carsun Gragg, grandparents: Bill Coiner, Short and Brookie Breedlove and Ann Marker.    He is survived by his mom and dad; Teresa and Russel Breedlove, children Mercedes, Griffin, Nathan and Blake, siblings: Kain Bias, Katy and Cole Coiner, grandparents: Tommy and Judy Quintrell, James Luther Marker and Flo Coiner.  He was loved and will be missed by too many friends and family to mention.

Services will be 7:00 PM on Thursday, February 17, at the Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek with Zack Adkins & Pastor Paul Meadows officiating. Burial will be 3:00PM Saturday, February 19, 2011 at the Family Farm Cemetery on Laurel Fork.  It is requested that everyone coming to the committal service on Saturday wear their WVU game gear. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 PM on Thursday at the funeral home.

Vivian A. Holstein

Vivian A. Holstein, 89, of Sissonville, formerly of Alum Creek went home to Heaven Friday February 11, 2011 at Cedar Ridge Center Sissonville after a long illness.  She was preceded in death by her husbands, George O. Parsons and Homer L. Holstein.  She was a member of the Alum Creek Church of Christ where she sang in the choir.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Dora and Phillip Burcham and grandsons; Matthew and Derek Burcham.  Service will be 2:00 pm Wednesday at Curry funeral home Alum Creek with Minister Richard Runyan officiating. Burial will follow at Priestley-Pate Cemetery at Alum Creek. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

Josephine “Jo” Elizabeth Shamblin Childress

Josephine “Jo” Elizabeth Shamblin Childress 95, of South Charleston went home to be with the Lord Thursday, February 10, 2011 at Hubbard Hospice House.

She was preceded in death by her husband Albert Childress.  She was a member of the Hilltop Baptist Church, South Charleston and the Eastern Star.  She is survived by her special family, Clenton and Gail Curry; Grandchildren: Brian Curry (Joy) and Stacy Schoderbek; Great Grandchildren: Makayla, Riley and Charlie

Funeral service will be 3:00 PM Sunday February 13, 2011 at Curry Funeral Home 2097 Childress Road Alum Creek with Pastor Robert “Butch” Leadman officiating. Entombment will be 11:00 AM Monday at Graceland Memorial Park, South Charleston. Family and friends will gather one hour prior to the service Sunday at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers donations may be made to HospiceCare, 1606 Kanawha Blvd. W, Charleston, WV 25312.

Jerry Lee Hanshaw

Jerry Lee Hanshaw, 64, of South Charleston born May 10, 1946 in South Charleston went home to be with the Lord Monday, February 7, 2011. He passed away peacefully in his sleep after a long illness.

He was a retired printer for the State of WV.

Jerry is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Ethel A. Hanshaw; Sons, Richard (Opal) of Alum Creek and Jimmy of South Charleston; Mother, Pauline Hanshaw of Charleston; Brother, David (Debbie) of South Carolina; Several uncles, aunts, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be 2:00 pm Saturday, February 12, at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek with Pastor Frank Chapman officiating. Burial will follow in Graceland Memorial Park. Family and friends will gather from Noon – 2:00 pm prior to the service.

Shelby Jean McCormick

Shelby Jean McCormick, 74, of South Charleston passed away Monday, February 7, 2011 at Hubbard Hospice House after a one year battle with colon cancer.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Buster McCormick; parents, Cebert & Amma Hill Pauley; and half brother, William Hill.

She had worked at Owens Ill. Glass Plant in the late 50s and was the bookkeeper for McCormick Tile for 30 years. In her latter years she worked at the Capitol Farmers Market where she loved meeting people.

She is survived by her daughter, Vicki Titcher (Andy) of South Carolina and son, Rick McCormick of Alum Creek; Grandchildren, Andrew and Ashley Titcher; and Cody and Austin McCormick; Great Grandson: Tyler Titcher; Sisters, Wilma Sowards (Donald), Allie Mollohan, Wanda Gillispie (Harry), and Donna Fizer (Joe) all of Charleston; Brothers, Cebert Pauley, Jr. (Dorinda) of Charleston and Joe Pauley (Shirley) of Huntington.

Shelby loved to fish with her sister Allie & sister-in-law, Betty Jo Boner. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Funeral service will be 1:00 pm Friday, February 11, 2011 at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek with Rev. Charles D. Pennington officiating. Entombment will follow in Graceland Memorial Park Mausoleum, South Charleston. Family and friends may gather 2 hours prior to the service at the funeral home.

Marvin Ray Rose

Marvin Ray Rose, 73, of South Charleston, WV went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 6, 2011. He passed away at the Hubbard Hospice House, Charleston, WV.

Marvin was the son of the late John and Salley Rose of Columbus, OH. Marvin grew up in Louisa, KY and was a graduate of Louisa High School. He was an Army Veteran and a retiree of IUOE#132 with 32 years of service and a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church, Sumerco, WV.

Marvin was a true Bluegrass man and traveled with his band “Marvin Rose & Co.” to various events in WV and surrounding states for thirty years and made many friends along the way.

Marvin leaves behind his wife Patsy Moss Rose of 16 years; Children, Gina Woods – Louisa, KY, Sherry (James) Webb – New Richmond, OH, Evette (Jack) Short – Louisa, KY, Marvin Ray, Jr., (Angie) – Louisa, KY, Brandi Rose-Holstein (Tom Proctor) – Clendenin, WV; Grandchildren, Andrew Woods (Carrie Jo), Tanae’ Woods, Jamie & Alisha Webb, Kelly Spears, Britta Kitts (Jason), Heather Rose, Kandace Holstein, Tyler Spencer, Great Grandchildren: Addalyn, Morgan, Colton, & Baylee.

Marvin was blessed with two brothers in Christ that became his caregivers. Russell Fridley and Donnie Nelson, also blessed with a host of friends and neighbors that helped numerous times.

Services will be at 2:00pm on Thursday, February 10, 2011 at the Curry Funeral Home Chapel, 2090 Childress Road, Alum Creek, WV, with Randall Butch Brogan officiating. Burial will follow at the Pine Grove Cemetery.

Friends and family may gather on Wednesday, February 9, 2011, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at the funeral home.

Eva Akers Gragg

Eva Akers Gragg, 84 of Scott Depot, formerly of South Charleston, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving children Saturday, February 5, 2011.

She was the daughter of the late Charlie and Virgie Akers of Alum Creek. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Ray Gragg on February 5, 1984, six siblings, and one great grandchild.

She is survived by one sister Alberta Haga, of Sophia, West Virginia and one brother, Adair Akers of South Charleston.

Also surviving are her children, Jayne Lively Williams and husband, Chambers of Murfreesboro, TN, Robert “Bob” Gragg and wife, Susie of South Charleston, Joyce Pratt Jordan and husband, Joey of Cross Lanes, Ralph Gragg and wife, Debbie of South Charleston, Russell Gragg and wife, Kimberlee, of Boone, North Carolina, Richard Gragg and wife, Robin of Scott Depot, 21 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and special “adopted” son Steve Pauley and wife Rosie of Scott Depot.

She worked many jobs for many years to see that her children were provided for. In her legacy of raising her children, her goodness and wisdom will live on in a love that will always be with us. Her Christian heart was always our guidebook to heaven.

She loved her flower gardens, especially her beautiful, beautiful roses of many colors. She was a very special lady and will be missed by all who knew her. Thank God her soul is resting, thank God for all who loved her, praise God who loved her best.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Ashish Sheth and his staff for their compassionate care of mom over the past ten years, Dr. Haffar and Teresa, Dr. Jogenpally, and the staff on 3rd floor of Thomas Memorial Hospital Medical Pavillion. They treated mom with the kindness, dignity and respect she deserved. Our sincere appreciation to all who visited, called and sent cards and flowers.

We would also like to extend out thanks to everyone at Hospice Home Care, Curry Funeral Home, Graceland Memorial Park for their kindness, understanding and assistance.

Services will be 11:00 AM Tuesday, February 8 2011 at Curry Funeral Home 2097 Childress Road Alum Creek with Russell Gragg officiating. Visitation will be 6 to 9 pm Monday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Graceland Memorial Park South Charleston. A gathering of family and friends will take place at the home of Ralph and Debbie Gragg following the burial.
